Your Guide to Fundraising with Revitalise Raise money for Revitalise
and have fun in the process
T: 0207 288 6874 W: Revitalise.org.uk/fundraise E: [email protected]
Leonie, who spent eight months as a staff support volunteer at Netley Waterside House, wanted to do something more to support us, so she made the drastic decision to plummet 15,000ft from the sky, all in the name of raising money for Revitalise!
At first Leonie thought it might be difficult to raise the funds for her skydive, but she soon had an idea to tinker Easter eggs and sell them. "That set the fire off and the rest of the money was raised quickly," commented Leonie, "I would never have thought that it would be that easy."
Brave Leonie was delighted to mark the end of her volunteering experience at her ‘second home’ in a way that she would never forget.
“This was one of the best and craziest things I have ever done” said Leonie, “It is a hundred per cent better than every roller coaster and as a result you do something great for charity.”
People raise funds for Revitalise in all sorts of ways - from simply donating a small amount every month to running marathons. Keep reading to find the best way for you.

Joining Team RevitaliseTouching lives everyday
Revitalise touches the lives of everyone who comes into contact with us. We change the lives of people living with disability through the simple experience of happiness. Underpinning all we do is one simple, immutable belief – everybody needs a break.
Revitalise is the largest provider of respite holidays with on call nursing care for people with disabilities in the UK. We don’t receive any central government funding. We don’t receive any Lottery funding. And yet, Revitalise provide around 5,000 breaks each year and welcome 1,600 volunteers to help us create a truly memorable, holiday experience for people who need 24 hour nursing care.
''I was so close to giving up, all you have done is so appreciated by us both, I walked in feeling I could not cope but within seconds everyone’s smiles and welcome dispelled those negative vibes. It does not matter how much disability or the real world has got to you, Revitalise takes over - restores the soul and brings sunshine back into our lives and hearts. You restored us to human beings.''Ann Humphreys, Revitalise guest
On the surface, Revitalise is busy providing care, cooking great food, venturing out to trips to the theatre, going ice-skating, heading to nightclubs, even powerboating! But underneath, the real work is creating an environment where each person re-connects to their many riches, and shares those with one another.
With your help we can keep providing these breaks that mean so much to so many. Keep reading to find out how you can help!

Running the London Marathon''My London Marathon experience for Revitalise was one I will never, ever forget! The whole day was just wonderful. Although the training was hard work at times in the snow and freezing temperatures, it was all totally worth it. Seeing Revitalise at mile 19 was a really up-lifting experience and seeing you all scream and cheer helped Jo and myself run the last 7.2 miles.''Suzanne King, Revitalise marathon runner
Running a marathon is a brilliant experience, you'll get a huge amount of support all the way through from training to on the day with Team Revitalise.

Cycling Ride London''Today, just now, I’ve finished the 100 miles on the Olympic circuit with a great bunch of people with loads of support. So, if you want to, all you have to do is make a change for yourself.'Robin Lattaway, Revitalise fundraiser
Three years ago, Robin was experiencing life shattering pain as a result of two prolapsed discs in his neck. At the end of August 2012 Robin purchased a bicycle, his first in over 20 years.

In the months that followed he worked hard to rebuild his stamina, having heard about Revitalise, Robin decided that participating in the Prudential Ride London 2013 on behalf of the charity was the goal he needed to maintain his hard work and enthusiasm. Almost a year on from the start of his incredible journey, Robin accomplished his goal of completing the Ride London – Surrey 100 as part of Team Revitalise.
The experience of taking part in an event may be remembered forever and for some, like Robin, may even change your life. Read on for a couple of inspiring stories from two of Team Revitalise.

The boring but important bit
The Legal SideThere are a few things to remember when you’re thinking of running an event. Most events are very straightforward to run but just make sure that you have considered all the points at the back of this booklet.
Your health and safety checklistNever the most popular part of events but you need to ensure that health and safety is regulated as Revitalise can’t accept liability for accidents or damage to people or property as a result of your event or activity, just make sure that you have ticked of all the relevant points at the back of this booklet.
First AidYou can get advice from a professional medical company like St John’s Ambulance or Red Cross about what type of First Aid to have at your event.

Reaching your targetOnline sponsorship pagesSetting up an online sponsorship page is the easiest way for people to donate and is fun to set up. Our preference is Virgin Money Giving where you can tailor the page based on your event. Just call us and we can talk you through it, along with how you can link to Revitalise.
By setting up an online fundraising page, as long as your sponsor is an eligible UK taxpayer, Revitalise will be able to claim an additional 25p from every £1 donated, at no cost to you or your sponsor. This 25% is on top of your fundraising total.
How does the money reach Revitalise?Sending the money you've raised over to Revitalise is one of the simplest parts of the whole process. There are lots of options so you can choose whichever works best for you and your event.
OnlineThe money raised through uk.virginmoneygiving.com will come directly to Revitalise so you won’t have to worry.
PhoneWe can take card payments over the phone, just call 0207 288 6874.

Achieving your goalUsing social mediaFacebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Google+, YouTube, LinkedIn, Email; the internet is your fundraising oyster.
Your whole network can help and even those that aren’t in your network can! Invite people to like your page, re-tweet, like your Instagram photo, share your video, forward your online sponsorship form, or you could write a signature on your email to your sponsorship page - the possibilities are endless.
Write a blogWhatever your chosen event is, write a blog of your journey - little tips and tricks that got you through, what was fun, what was difficult and any personal stories about your journey with Revitalise. Also, search for other blogs on how people have raised money, they’re always good for inspiration and you may even get a volunteer from them who could help with your event.
Matched givingSome employers are able to match your fundraising total. If you don’t ask you don’t get and it could double your fundraising efforts.
‘'By the time Mum went to Revitalise I was quietly losing my mind and desperately needed a break. I was very stressed, depressed and exhausted, it had all finally become too much. I was not in a good place. I have never been so grateful for time on my own in my life. Time for just me. Peaceful time. Mum was safe and happy. She rested and recuperated, made lots of friends and was thoroughly spoiled.’'
Lucy Burbedge, carer for her Mum Sue Whibley

The legal sideThere are a few things to remember when you’re thinking of running your own event. Most events are very straightforward to run but just make sure that you have ticked all the relevant boxes below.
Your legal checklistI have ensured I have all necessary licenses, permits and consents: Contact your local authority to check which licences you will need.
I have complied with food safety regulations (if a BBQ or bake sale for instance): The Food Standards Agency provides guidelines for preparing, handling and cooking food. If you are using a caterer you need to make sure they have a Food Hygiene Certificate and Public Liability Insurance.
I have permission from the owner if I am fundraising on public property, in shops, or in pubs or I have a permit or license from the relevant authority (if raising money in a public place)
I have contacted Revitalise before running a raffle or tombola. If you want to know more about organising a raffle or lottery call us, consult your local council or visit the Institute of Fundraising website
I have an alcohol license (if you are selling alcohol at your event)
I have spoken to Revitalise about using the correct logo and colours
I will not reveal any information about supporters, nor will I share photos without their consent
If the event is going to obstruct traffic then you should let your local police know
Ensure that your event is properly and adequately supervised. Where children are involved, this should include providing proper adult supervision and carrying out appropriate background checks if adults are to have unsupervised access to children. See the Government's Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) information for more guidance
Always have two people present to count any money raised
Check institute-of-fundraising.org.uk to make sure that you have covered all your legal bases.
