ASC Renewables is a developer of renewable energy projects in the UK. We specialise in co-developing wind energy projects with corporate partners.

ASC has been a key partner in delivering the first phase of our corporate wind programme and has demonstrated a complete understanding of our needs whilst delivering an outstanding level of service and expertise. We will have 6.9MW of wind power on our operational sites in 2012 helping us reduce our carbon impact.

Why develop a corporate wind energy programme

Wind energy projects are profi table and can substantially reduce your electricity costs and corporate emissions whilst providing long-term energy security.

Profi table – developing a wind energy project with ASC Renewables is commercially attractive with payback achieved within 3 years.

Energy savings – renewable energy supplied directly to site is up to 40% cheaper than traditionally generated power.

Energy security – wind energy projects protect

against volatile and rising prices, providing long term energy security for up to 10 years. (The Carbon Trust forecasts energy prices to rise 37% by 2020)

Carbon reduction – a wind energy project can materially reduce your corporate emissions. For example, a 3 turbine wind project can achieve a 30% carbon reduction from a £5m annual electricity consumption.

Corporate environmental policy – reducing and offsetting corporate emissions is increasingly important and enhances brand equity for your business.

Flexible options for developing your wind energy programme

ASC Renewables provides a range of fl exible options which enables every company to benefi t from wind energy.

Direct Supply - On Site We build a wind turbine on your site supplying you directly with the electricity generated. You purchase the electricity generated at a reduced price, typically 40% cheaper than

your existing supply and any excess is sold to the grid. You co-invest a small proportion of the project cost (typically £150k to £400k).

Direct Supply - Locally We build a wind turbine on land near to your site supplying you directly with the

electricity generated. We will fi nd and secure the land required within a few miles of your site. You purchase the electricity generated at a reduced price, typically 40% cheaper than

your existing supply and any excess is sold to the grid. You co-invest a small proportion of the project cost (typically £150k to £400k).

Greenfi eld Co-development If it is not possible to develop a wind project either on or near to your site then we will

co-develop a wind project at a greenfi eld location. We will either fi nd and secure a suitable third party site, or we will partner with you to

source viable opportunities within your supply chain. You purchase the energy generated at a reduced price to your current tariff, fi xed for 10

years, providing long-term energy security and substantial savings to your business. You co-invest a small proportion of the project cost (typically £150k to £400k).

Small capital contribution, large return

ASC Renewables has considerable experience in providing funding for renewable energy projects. Partnering with us you will typically contribute less than 10% of the project cost. A wind energy project will deliver substantial environmental and fi nancial benefi ts to your business. We specialise in developing projects ranging from 1 to 10 turbines and the table below illustrates some typical project scenarios.

Wind energy projects from ASC Renewables are commercially attractive, providing compelling fi nancial and environmental benefi ts.

Wind energy benefi ts Low capital investment – you contribute less than 10% of the project cost.

(typically between £150k to £400k) whilst we provide the remaining project funding.

Fast payback – we design wind energy projects to pay back your capital contribution within the fi rst 3 years of operation.

Reduced electricity prices – electricity generated by a wind project can be purchased up to 40% cheaper than your current electricity supply.

Carbon reduction or offset – wind energy can materially reduce your corporate emissions.

Profi t share – you will receive an attractive share of the project profi ts.

Energy security The electricity generated from your wind energy project will deliver long-term energy security.

A low, fi xed electricity price infl ation for 10 years protects your business from rising costs and energy market volatility.

Wind energy projects generate revenue from the sale of electricity (to your site or the grid) and from renewable subsidies.

How wind energy projects generate income

Electricity generated by wind energy projects below 5MW (2 turbines or less) are eligible for the Feed in Tariff subsidy which is both RPI linked and guaranteed for 20 years.

Larger wind energy projects of over 5MW (3 or more turbines) qualify for ROCs (Renewable Obligation Certifi cates) which are an established traded commodity.

The electricity generated is sold at wholesale price either to your business or to the grid. A power purchase agreement (PPA) is established which contractually guarantees this price.

Frequently asked questions

09

Q. How much electricity could a wind turbine supply us with?

A. A single 2.3MW turbine produces around 5,400MWh of electricity per year. The electricity is used firstly at your site with any excess exported to the grid. Your electricity consumption profile will determine how much of your current usage will be replaced by wind energy.

Q. Are my site(s) suitable for a wind energy project?

A. ASC Renewables will conduct a detailed feasibility assessment at your site(s) using specialist GIS constraints mapping software, reviewing all of the key planning restrictions for developing a wind project. This detailed analysis ensures only the

most viable projects are proposed.

Q. My business location is leased, can we still benefit from a wind project?

A. We liaise with land owners to secure a separate long-term lease on a turbine site for the lifetime of the project. This protects your return on investment should the general site lease expire earlier.

Q: What happens if my business moves location?

A: If your business moves location the project continues to operate, exporting electricity to the grid. We repay to you any unrecovered investment.

Q. What are the benefits of wind energy compared to solar PV?

A. Wind energy can have a meaningful impact on your corporate emissions; 1 wind turbine generates the equivalent energy of over 16,000 solar PV panels whilst only requiring a fraction of the space. The UK is the windiest country in Europe with 40% of the continent’s wind resource, making us the ideal place to develop a wind project.

Q. Will a wind energy project affect my existing price and supply?

A. A wind project connects into your existing electrical supply. There is a seamless transition between consuming power from the wind turbine

when generating and consuming power from the grid. Your current power purchase agreements are unlikely to be affected, although we review this as part of the project proposal.

Q. We have reviewed wind potential in the past, why should we review it again now?

A. Technology, legislation, subsidies and the commercial benefits of wind energy have all altered significantly in the last few years. ASC Renewables offers flexible and very low capital options. With options to develop turbines on your site, locally to site or on greenfield land, we enable every business

to benefit from wind energy.
