merrimack valley magazine is THE guide to community, culture
and cuisine in the greater Merrimack Valley region. In each issue we bring
you the stories behind the headlines; biographies of the famous and not
so famous; history of the region; community and business organizations;
artists, musicians, educators, business people and the places they work
and perform. We showcase the best places to eat and the chefs that
create the finest in local cuisine, the best in home design and urban
revitalization, and what Valley people are doing for fun. We uncover
the hidden gems of a region steeped in history yet on the cutting edge
of new technologies and ideas.
As the ONLY publication that reaches the entire Merrimack Valley, on
both sides of the border, we offer advertisers the opportunity to present
your message in a full-color magazine printed on high quality paper
and designed so that your ad is always adjacent to editorial content,
enhancing the likelihood that your message will be seen by the targeted
audience - a guarantee offered by no other publication.

productions. A member of the National Honor Society who has
been on the high honor roll, Wentworth does her homework
right after school. She dances through many evenings in
NECB classes, and stays up late when necessary to finish any
homework.
Wentworth plans to attend college as a dance major and
to perform with a company for a couple of years, with the
ultimate goal of teaching dance. For students who aren’t going
to pursue dance professionally, NECB’s productions and the
open auditions allow opportunities — otherwise scarce in the
immediate area — to continue performing.
Christina George envisions dance as always being part of
her life, and though she once considered it as her primary
career, she now plans to be a school psychologist instead. “Now
I can really enjoy it for what it is,” she says. “It’s not like,
‘oh my God! I need to really perfect these triple pirouettes,’ …
it’s no pressure now … it’s an outlet for me.”
All the work, rushing around and diligent practicing lead to
one weekend, when the dancers put on three performances at
the Rogers Center for the Arts at Merrimack College.
On stage, Pecora, Christina George and Wentworth appear
f lawless to me in their dancing, their slender legs f lashing,
muscular and streamlined. These three cast members alone
represent 63 years of dance experience (all started training at
age 3). The intense lights burnish their dresses, and butterfly-
like wings f lounce upon the shoulders of the younger two.
Pecora, who is a petite 5 feet tall, might as well be Wonder
Woman under the lights — a soaring stage presence. Her
husband and children watch from the audience.
Christina George’s leg extension looks spectacular, with her
feet repeatedly sweeping higher than her crown.
Wentworth owns the place in her Silver Fairy solo, a vision
of lithe vigor and liquid motion. What her mother, Pat, told me
is clearer now: “You can see her passion for dance..”
It all comes down to this: the music crescendos in finale,
the crowd rises to its feet as one, the whooping voices and
the beating together of so many hands sets my chest cavity
thrumming. Back from where we stand, we see nothing but
dozens of dancers a-dazzle with million-watt smiles, their
colorful costumes illuminated by the silver-tinged light.
The strenuous hours and weeks — even years — of work
behind it are invisible.
