ABOUTTHEHIMALAYANTRUST

AlittlebitofinformationabouttheHimalayanTrust,thelegacyofSirEdmundHillaryandwhyweneedyourhelp.Sir Edmund Hillary founded and led theHimalayanTrust from 1960untilhisdeathin2008andwefollowinhisfootsteps.Edconsideredthegreatestachievementofhislife,notclimbingEverest,buthisaidworkthrough the Trust, helping the people oftheHimalayas.

Ed listenedtorequests from localpeople,and worked in partnership with them.Everyyear,hetrekkedforweeksormonths,evaluatingwhathadbeendoneandworkingforthefuture.ThisisthepatternwestriveforalongsideourNepalifriendsandpartnerorganisations.


InthelastclauseofhisWill,Edwrote:

TheHimalayanTrustisprovidingtrainingtoallthesecondaryteachers in theSolukhumbu–aimingto equip them with specialist subject advice aswellasskillstoenhancethe learningexperienceofthestudents.Thetrainingtakestheformofanannual2weekworkshopaswellasin-classroomsupport. This donation is a contribution to thetrainingcosts.

Thepeopleofthemountainshavearighttoagoodeducation.And this includesacquiringpractical,vocational and entrepreneurial skills to enablethem to develop their own businesses withoutneedingtoleavetheirdistrict.Withyourhelp,theTrustaimstogrowthenumberofscholarshipsitissuesforpracticaltrainingforyoungwomenandmen.

$3500TEACHERSINCLASSROOMS

With schools in remote mountain villages farfrom roads, many teachers walk days to reachtheir work – living far from their homes. Theseare not easy postings. The Trust offers salaryincentivestoencourageteacherstostay.Wealsofund additional teachers and provide teachingresources.. This donation is the average annualsalaryofaHimalayanTrustfullyfundedteacher.

Manywomenandchildrenspendhourseachdayporteringwaterfortheirhouseholdsneeds.Thisdonation is theaveragecostof reticulatingsafedrinkingwatertotheirhome.

TheHimalayanTrustrepresentsSirEdmundHillary’slegacyandwearecommittedto

makingadifferenceinNepal.It’simportantthatyourfundraisingevent,whichwillcarry

thelogoandrepresentourname,alignswithourgoalsasanorganisation:toempower

communitiesandreducepovertyintheEverestRegionandNepal

Whenorganisingyourevent,pleasemakesurethatit:

• Respectsotherethnicities,culturesandreligiousbeliefs.

• Doesnotputanyoneatrisk.TheHimalayanTrustcannotacceptliabilityforany

loss,damageorinjurysufferedbyyouoranyoneelseasaresultoftakingpart

inafundraisingevent.

• Adherestofoodhygienestandardsifyou’reprovidingfood(seewww.

STEP 1: DEFINE YOUR GOAL

Assesshowlongyou’vegottomakeitallhappenandplanoutatimelineforit.
