We Welcome Dan Finnigan to Our Board of Directors

Our cover photo of this Winter Newsletter features Carlos and Marina who came back to JobTrain to ring the bell after landing their dream jobs. “Don’t give up, you can do it” are some of their words of advice to those students following behind them. This holiday season we ask for your support to help more people ring the bell at JobTrain and transform their lives. Since 1965 JobTrain has been creating pathways from poverty to economic mobility, empowering low-income people to move from unemployment to sustainable careers. JobTrain serves more than 1,000 individuals each year with Career Trainings, Skills Upgrade trainings, and Job Placement services. Overall, about 2,500 individuals benefit from a JobTrain program or service every year.

JobTrain’s programs work: over 81% of graduates obtained a job in FY19, and 87% of those placed in a job are still working one year later, and many have been promoted. These impressive outcomes illustrate that our “whole person” approach of combining career skills, academics, essential skills and support services leads to success.

Together, we can make a difference in fighting poverty in the Bay Area. To help more of our community members transition out of poverty and achieve their dreams please donate to JobTrain’s Holiday Campaign today!

Sincerely,

Barrie Hathaway

Message from the President and CEO

The children of JobTrain’s Child Development Center are loving literacy thanks to a partnership between JobTrain, Bring Me a Book, and JobTrain’s Project Build (Carpentry) students. Bring Me a Book donated beautiful new books, provided in English and Spanish. Every child went home with at least two books, and a desk organizer built by JobTrain’s Project Build (Carpentry) students. JobTrain is grateful to the Morgan Family Foundation for providing funding for this annual literacy project.

Bring Me a Book also provided parents/caregivers in the Child Development Center with a Literacy Workshop on the importance of reading with their children daily.

After the workshop, families and children enjoyed decorating their organizers – a handy place for children to keep their books, pencils, and other supplies.

Special thanks to Judy Crates for providing supplies for the event, and for leading the workshop. JobTrain is grateful to all who helped with this project, which is helping children gain a love of reading.

HELP MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Spread the word about the importance of participating in Census 2020.

Train to be a Census Ambassador in your community by contacting Walter Manuofetoa at [email protected].

Have open conversations with others and help calm fears, anxiety, or address misinformation.

Pledge to participate in Census 2020 and Stand Up to be Counted!

Everyone - regardless of age, immigration status, or criminal history - needs to be counted.

The census count is how we make sure everyone gets a voice in government and communities get your fair share of funding for programs and services.

An undercount of our population could affect services to families and children, planning for public schools, transportation, or hospitals.

By April 1, 2020 you will be mailed instructions about completing the census.
