WHY WE DON’T STOCK PART WORN TYRES1. SAFETYPart worn tyres are second hand, used and discarded. Generally they are someone else’s rubbish. They may even have come from scrapped or crashed vehicles.
A large proportion of part worn tyres are dumped on the UK from other countries where the minimum legal tread depth is greater than ours, for example Germany where their tyres are scrapped at 3mm. The UK’s minimum legal tread depth is 1.6mm, therefore these previously scrapped tyres considered unsafe for German roads can still be legally imported into the UK and sold.
Stopping distance at 50 mph on wet roads could be almost 12m (40 feet) more on 1.6mm of tread ( the legal minimum limit) than on a new tyre. That’s almost 3 car lengths.
2. COSTPart worn tyres are a false economy.
EG . NEW premium quality Firestone tyre 155/70 13T costs £33.50* fully fitted. It has 6.4mm of usable tread (8mm total).
Cost therefore is £6.09 per mm.
Part worn tyre, average fitted cost … £20, with usable tread 1.4 mm (3mm in total less the 1.6 minimum legal limit)
Cost therefore is £10.71 per mm.
THE REAL COST OF THESE TYRES ARE ALMOST DOUBLE THAT OF NEW.

The Motor Vehicle Tyres (Safety) Regulations 1994 (Regulation 7) part of the Consumer Protection Act states...
The side wall of any part worn tyre intended for sale must contain the EC approved mark, (for example E11) and, in upper case letters at least 4mm high the words ‘PART-WORN’.

Why do I need to consult a Solicitor?Being involved in an accident is never a pleasant experience and all too often we want to forget about it as quickly as possible, however, we should remember that we have rights and everyone should know exactly what they are. You may also be entitled to free of charge legal representation to seek compensation for:
Repair costs - your solicitor will contact the third party’s insurance company and reclaim any repair costs on your behalf.
Personal injury - in the event that personal injury has been suffered by you or any of your passengers, then you may be entitled to compensation.
Loss of earnings - if because of the accident you have to be away from work for any length of time, then the solicitor can help you gain compensation.
Loss of personal effects - any personal effects which have been lost as a result of the accident can also be claimed for.
Out of pocket expenses - should you have suffered any out of pocket expenses due to the accident, your solicitor will help you make a claim.

DON’T BE NERVOUS ABOUT YOUR MOTWith the vast numbers of vehicles on our roads today, it makes sense that there should be a regular check to make sure that they are road worthy. This annual check is called the MOT and it applies to all vehicles aged three years and over. It is a stringent test covering a number of points and usually takes approximately 40 to 50 minutes.
Some of the areas the garage will look at on your vehicle are listed below:
• Tyres• Wheels• Wheel Bearings
• Shock Absorbers• Suspension• Fuel Tank• Brakes• Seat Belts• Lights and much more
There are a number of areas that will be checked and they must all conform to and be in accordance with clearly defined guidelines.
The MOT is a legal requirement, but with some common sense, it should be a painless experience.
There is an old saying I grew up with as a lad which went along the lines of, if it ain’t broke then don’t fix it. This may well be true in some circumstances, however, it could not be further from the truth where the car servicing is concerned. It is vitally important that you carry out a regular servicing schedule in line with the manufacturer’s guidelines.
Despite all the warning, it is still amazing just how many people choose to ignore this advice, they wait until something is wrong, or they do it when they think about it.
If your vehicle is new or is within three years of age, then you could well invalidate your warranty if it is not serviced in accordance with the manufacturer’s guidelines.
It also makes common sense that if you follow a regular service routine, you will protect the significant financial investment you have in your vehicle.
THE IMPORTANCE OF SERVICING
Another point well worth considering is the potential damage which will be done to the engine and the constituent parts through neglect. The reason for servicing is quite simple, it allows for regular inspection, resetting and even replacement of the essential components under your bonnet.
Without this regular inspection, these components will simply continue to deteriorate and their poorer performance will then affect other vital parts and eventually the entire engine could fail.
Depending on the annual MOT test to highlight potential problems is not sensible. Brakes and clutches need more regular checks.
These tests are not conditional and are open to anyone. You would be well advised to visit your local service centre at your earliest opportunity and take advantage of any offers they may have.
