When searching for your new home it is helpful to prioritize features and elements
by needs and wants. This will help you sort through properties on the market
quickly and keep you focused on homes that are worth setting up a showing. You
may have to make some compromises, having your list separated will make it easier
to stay in your price range and eliminate other homes on your list.
Price - Estimate your monthly mortgage payment so you know
how much you can afford and search within your price range.
Property Type - Determine what you’re looking for whether
it’s a townhome, single-family home, or multi-unit.
Property Condition - Are you looking for a new
home or an old home? If you’re hoping to buy a house that
is ready to move into, you’re going to want to search for new
homes. If you’re hoping to spend a little less up front and don’t
mind investing some time and money into your own home
improvements, then maybe an old home is in your future.
Needs - Determine what you need in a home. Ex.) You have
three teenage daughters, so having two bathrooms is essential.
Wants - Determine the things you would like to have in your
home. Ex.) You’ve always wanted a formal dining room. This
isn’t something you NEED in your home, so you may have to live
without it and enjoy your eat-in-kitchen.
Location - Most buyers have an idea of where they
are hoping to live. It could be a certain school district or a
neighborhood. Maybe you want to live close to family,
friends, or your workplace.
