2015 SEASON

Translated as “the beautiful era” the Belle Epoque in France was a time that resulted in a growth of industry, the arts and the middle class between the Franco-Prussian War and World War I. While in retrospect the people of a certain class during the Belle Epoque could be seen as shallow and materialistic, Feydeau’s play proves that the themes of the pursuit of love and relationships and the desire to save ourselves from getting in trouble are universal. Considered the pinnacle of farce writers, Feydeau’s construction of this and other works is a master class in plot formation. “A Flea in Her Ear” premeried

in 1907 and has been delighting audiences since. The John Mortimer translation you are seeing today was translated for the National Theatre in London and premiered in 1966. The production made a star of the great actor Albert Finney in the roles of Poche and Victor Emmanuel Chandebise. It has been a joy discovering the hilarious twists and turns of the world of the Chandebises and the sketchy Hotel Coq d’Or with the fabulous students from Northern State University here at the Capitol Theatre. Welcome to “A Flea in Her Ear.” Once again, it has been a pleasure to work with the staff and students from NSU on this production, which includes a majority of NSU students, but also includes others from the community at large, as well as ACT staff, as part of the cast and crew. We are especially excited to hear the Johnson Fine Arts Center is beginning its transformation. Thank you for playing a part by attending this performance in ACT’s 2015 season.

As most of you are aware, ACT’s 60 minute version of “Working,” which we performed locally in February, participated in the SD state AACTFest and is now advancing to the Region V (IA, KS, MN, MO, NE, ND & SD) AACTFest in Newton, IA, April 23-26. In preparation for regionals, we are announcing one public performance on Wednesday, April 22 at 7:30 p.m. here at the Capitol Theatre. We hope you will help the cast and crew by attending this benefit performance. A free-will admission will be accepted to help with the travel costs, for the all-volunteer cast and crew of 18, to get to regionals in Iowa which will determine which of seven shows will advance to

nationals in June. See the back cover of this program for more information.

As we continue the season, I’d like to see each of you at auditions for the summer musical, “Shrek the Musical,” on April 27 and 28 at 7p.m. here at the Capitol Theatre. So if you’ve ever wanted to play a wicked witch, fairy godmother, ugly duckling, wolf, rabbit, little pig, princess, ogre or donkey… here’s your chance. Come join the fun by playing a part in this fantasy fairytale. See page 9 for more details. Production dates are tentatively scheduled for June 10-14.

Hurry! “Church Basement Ladies in The Last (Potluck) Supper” will perform May 6-10. Tickets have been available to subscribers for a week and are now on sale to the public. There will be seven performances, but the prime seats always sell quickly. Don’t miss the ladies’ last laughs in the “Church Basement Ladies” final saga.

ELI CORBETT (Victor Emmanuel/Poche) is from Deadwood, SD and is in his 4th year at NSU. He has taken part in over a dozen productions, last appearing as Bob Wallace in ACT and NSU’s production of “Irving Berlin’s White Christmas” (2014). He hopes that you enjoy the show and thanks you all for coming!

HALEY HUBBARD (Raymonde) has appeared in many productions at NSU, Huron Community Theatre, DeSmet Community Theatre and Northern Fort Playhouse. She was last seen as Rita in ACT and NSU’s production of “Irving Berlin’s White Christmas” (2014). When she is not working on a show, she likes to participate in various choirs and marching band.

CHASE ROESCH (Camille) is attending NSU seeking a Bachelor degree is political science. He is excited to be returning to the stage after a two year absence from acting.

KAYLA BLUCHER (Lucienne) is a freshman at NSU majoring in musical theater. Originally from the Caribbean, she is making her NSU stage debut.

ZACHERY ELL (Carlos) is a freshman at NSU and is hoping to become a teacher someday. But while at NSU, he has decided to pursue what he dreams-to act. He last appeared in ACT and NSU’s productions of “Irving Berlin’s White Christmas” (2014) and “Working” (2015).

NATHAN WILSON (Romain) is from Kimball, SD and is a senior at NSU pursing a Bachelor of Arts degree for vocal performance. He is thrilled to perform with his friends in his first non-musical play. He last appeared in ACT and NSU’s production of “Working” (2015).

JOSHUA HINKEMEYER (Dr. Finache) grew up in Browns Valley, MN and graduated from Sisseton High School. He is majoring in communications at NSU.

JILLIAN JENSEN (stage manager) has been involved in several NSU productions. She appeared onstage in “Legally Blonde” (2012), “Bat Boy: The Musical” (2013) and “Les Misérables” (2014). She served as dramaturg for “Shakespeare Shakespeare” (2013) and “On the Verge” (2014). She also both appeared onstage and served a dramaturg for ACT and NSU’s production of “Working” (2015).

KATE JARLAND (assistant stage manager) is an elementary education major at NSU. She is 21 and from Jamestown, ND. She has been heavily involved in NSU Theatre for the past three years.

JOSHUA JOHN FRACHISEUR (scenic designer/NSU technical director) is the Professor of Scenic Design at Northern State University. Some of his recent work includes director and designer for NSU’s “On the Verge” and “Bat Boy: The Musical.” Josh has also been scenic carpenter and props artisan for the daytime drama

“As the World Turns.” Josh is blessed by the love and support of his wonderful wife, Nicole, and perfect daughter, Corina.

TINA HANAGAN (NSU technical director) has a diverse background in theater as a professional stagehand. With degrees from Indiana University in Technical Theater and Scenic Design, Tina has been a production assistant, stage manager, technical director and rental agent, among other behind-the scenes jobs all around North America. She is currently the Technical Director at Northern State University, the Northern Fort Playhouse, and a member of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees Local 618.

TYLER LANAM (props master) is a sophomore at NSU double majoring in musical theatre and vocal music education. He hails from Rapid City. At NSU, he appeared in “Bat Boy” (2013),

“Les Misérables” (2014) and most recently, ACT’s and NSU’s production of “Working” (2015).

TREVOR BOWENS (Etienne) is from Los Angeles, CA and is a student at NSU. He is new to the performing arts, having participated for the first time during his senior year of high school. He was last seen in ACT and NSU’s “Irving Berlin’s White Christmas” (2014).

SETH M. HONERMAN (Ferallion) is a graduate student working at NSU in Residence Life. In his spare time, he actively pursues work in theater through volunteering at ACT, last appearing on the Capitol stage as Leo in ACT’s “Leading Ladies” (2014). His next project is directing “The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940” for Roncalli High School.

EMILY DAVIS (Olympe) is majoring in both music and musical theater at NSU. She was last seen on the Capitol stage in ACT’s production of

“Little Shop of Horrors” (2014). She is looking forward to attending the Bel Canto Institute in Italy this summer.

CARRIE WEGLEITNER (Antoinette) is a sophomore at NSU majoring in art and theater. She is beyond excited to perform in her first non-musical production as Antoinette for

“A Flea in Her Ear.” She last appeared on stage in ACT and NSU’s production of “Irving Berlin’s White Christmas” (2014).

LEXI WARD (Eugenie) is an Aberdeen native who grew up participating in community and school theater productions. After graduating from high school, she obtained her cosmetology license and is now obtaining a business degree from NSU.

TYSON MEYER (Baptistin) is an NSU theater student. He has been involved at ACT and NSU theatre for the last four years. His recent productions have been ACT and NSU’s last two collaborative productions,

“Irving Berlin’s White Christmas” (2014) and “Working” (2015).

W TONY KOLLMAN (Herr Schwarz) is an NSU alumnus and a veteran of NSU Theatre, with numerous credits both onstage and off, including NSU’s productions of “Shakespeare’s R&J” (2002), “The Guys” (2004) and “The Cripple of Inishmaan” (2005). This production is his Capitol Theatre debut.

DAKOTA FELLER (hotel guest) is from Blunt, SD. She is an English major at NSU and captain of the Northern Lights Dance Team. She loves reading, writing, dance and drama. She was last seen on stage as Rhoda in ACT and NSU’s “Irving Berlin’s White Christmas” (2014).

KAYLA SPROLES (hotel guest) is from Sioux Falls, SD. She is a freshman at NSU pursuing a business degree and loves the arts. This is her first show with NSU.

SARA PILLATZKI-WARZEHA (director) is an actor, director, playwright and theater educator. In addition to recent teaching stints at Northern State University and University of Minnesota Morris, she has worked with a variety of theater and arts groups in Minnesota and South Dakota including Black Dirt Theater Company, Stages Children’s Theater, Inspiration Performing Arts Center, A+ Arts Club Autism and the Arts, Northern Fort Playhouse, Redfield Area Arts Council, Latino Play Fest and Purple Door Youth Theater. Sara holds an MFA in Acting from Minnesota State University Mankato where she was recognized with the Nadine B. Andreas Teaching Assistantship, has interned at the Mixed Blood Theatre in Minneapolis, and presented original research on American Indian Playwrights at conferences in New Mexico and Minnesota. She will soon be joining the La Crosse Community Theatre as Director of Education, but first she is thrilled to be returning to Aberdeen to work with the wonderful students and staff at Northern State University.

Production Volunteer Opportunities

ACTING: onstage roles.

STAGE MANAGEMENT: aid the director during rehearsal and oversee backstage activities during performances.

COSTUMES: construct costumes according to direction of costume designer (sewing not required).

PROPS: gather, construct and organize properties for productions.

SET CONSTRUCTION: build and/or paint set according to direction of set designer.

LIGHTS: operate light board during performances.

SOUND: operate sound board during performances.

BOX OFFICE: sell tickets to performances and film events.

HOUSE MANAGING: oversee ushers seating patrons, set up concessions.

USHERING: seat patrons before performances.

Non-Production Volunteer Opportunities

OFFICE ASSISTANCE: assist in maintaining regular office hours when staff is absent.

MAILING ASSISTANCE: assist in preparing ACT mailings.

BOX OFFICE ACT’s box office prior to a show’s opening is Kathleen’s, 401 S. Main St. Typical hours are Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tickets may be purchased in person at Kathleen’s or by mail to ACT. The Capitol box office is also open one hour prior to performances. Tickets can also be purchased online at AberdeenCommunityTheatre.com.

PERFORMANCES ACT maintains a firm policy of not canceling any performance due to weather. We urge all ticket holders to make every effort to attend. In the event that travel proves impossible at performance time, ticket holders may inquire at ACT’s office the next business day. ACT will make alternative arrangements, excluding refund, when possible.

ACCESSIBILITY Wheelchair seating arrangements should be made by informing ACT at the time of ticket purchase.

ASSISTIVE LISTENING DEVICES The Capitol Theatre is now equipped with a Hearing Loop system, which transmits sound to hearing aids with T-coils. Those without hearing aids or without T-coils may check out an assistive listening device. Ask an usher for details or go to the Jane West Gallery to check one out. You will need a driver’s license or credit card to leave as a deposit. Devices must be returned immediately after the show.

EXITS Please familiarize yourself with all emergency routes and exits closest to you.

VOLUNTEERING ACT welcomes all volunteers. Your involvement in set construction, costume making, ushering or fund raising projects will mean a great deal to us and can be fun and rewarding for you. If you can hammer, sew, paint, saw, embroider, type, glue, help gather props or enjoy working with kids, please volunteer now.

GROUP RATES Special rates are offered for groups of 12 or more at time of ticket purchase for all shows.
