SolidWorks World 2013
XLM will be attending, presenting and exhibiting at
SolidWorks World 2013 at the Disney World Swan and Dolphin in Orlando FL. We will be presenting on two topics:
Exploring EPDM Tasks - Working with and Developing Tasks in EPDM This presentation will explore EDPM Task functionality and how it can be configured and modified for specific user requirements. It will discuss what is involved in developing your own custom task. The presenter will walk through an actual example of developing a task and provide sample code.

Different Customization Approaches and Options for Enterprise PDM “Can I really do that in EPDM?” This presentation will discuss different customizations that can be done with EPDM such as developing executables (exe) and Add-Ins. The presentation will discuss how to develop, test and implement your own customizations. We will also have a booth/kiosk in the Partner Pavilion at location #1144-A. If you are attending we encourage you to stop by.
EPDM to Enovia V6 Migration Solution
In addition to our SmarTeam to EPDM Migration solution, per
feedback from our community, we have started to work on an
EPDM to Enovia V6 Migration tool. The tool will migrate all
designated EPDM data into V6 with high efficiency, minimal
system downtime, and exceptional accuracy.
We are building the tool to be highly configurable, supporting options such as file
renaming, state mappings and it can be expanded to handle any unique migration
requirements. We look forward to adding this tool to our library of other migration tools.
Give us a call and let us tell you more about the tool and how it may solve your
SmarTeam to V6 migration challenge efficiently.
PLM on the Cloud
Have you considered running your PLM/PDM system on the cloud? Some pros of running applications on the cloud are no hardware cost and minimal maintenance cost. You do not need to worry about any hardware or software backups and upgrades. The key aspect you need to understand is that you have less control of your intellectual property (files) as they are being stored outside of your company’s infrastructure to be hosted elsewhere. There are PLM systems today that actually run on the cloud such as solutions from Arena or Autodesk PLM 360 and the CRM company Sales Force have been very successful in this approach. However, Dassault / SolidWorks is not currently offering a fully functional PLM solution on the Cloud. xLM solutions has partnered with EpiGrid to provide the EPDM PLM solution over the cloud. EpiGrid is offering a hybrid cloud model for running EPDM. In other words, they are hosting all the EPDM’s back end servers (database and archive

server), with the EPDM client (EPDM View) local on the user’s computer. This model brings the power of EPDM to company’s who do not have the infrastructure, IT department or desire to manage and maintain an EPDM server. At the end of the day you get your own EPDM environment managed in the cloud. Some key features of EpiGrid are:
Fast, mobile access enables collaboration without boundaries. EpiGrid’s optimized environment allows for secure global access anytime and anywhere—even through a 4G hotspot.
Advanced security for complete data protection. The EpiGrid data center is protected by armed guards 24/7 and features biometric entry points, redundant firewalls, Cisco ASA security appliances and Cisco intrusion prevention system, and has a minimum VPN encryption of AES128.
Unmatched flexibility and scalability facilitates affordable custom solutions. An EpiGrid implementation starts with the basics but can grow to accommodate any need, which lowers costs, shortens the implementation time frame and allows for smart growth. Since the solution supports a variety of platforms including SolidWorks, PROe/Windchill and others, any company can benefit from our optimized solution.
Turn-key IT, engineering process and EPDM support and training designed to maximize productivity and collaboration potential. EpiGrid provides post-implementation support in the form of training sessions and documentation that explains a clients’ unique vault architecture in detail and can be used as a reference when questions arise. Help desk support and on-site consultation services are also available.
If you feel EPDM is the right solution for you, but the cost to implement and manage it is too high, EpiGrid should be the solution you are looking for. Please contact xLM Solutions for more information on EpiGrid.

V5-62012 (V5R22) Enhancements
As you may have noticed, Dassault has changed how new V5 releases are named. The new name signifies that Catia V5 data can be interchangeable with Catia V6 data. This means you can take a Catia V6 2012 file and load into V5-62012 (V5R22) and have many of the CAD features still available to use. Likewise you can take a V5-62012 (V5R22) file and load into V6. It should be noted, there is a conversion process you need to go through to move the file from V6 to V5 or vice versa. In addition to the name change the following enhancements have been added to

EPDM 2013 SolidWorks Tasks
SolidWorks 2013 is now using VBA 7 as their scripting / macro language (in the past it was VBA 6). Any EPDM task that was making use of a SolidWorks Macro such as the out of the box tasks of Covert or Print will need to edit the task in the Advanced Scripting Options Section and change the code after the Dim statements at the top of the script to the following: #If VBA7 Then

ENOVIA V6
Enovia V6 2013x Enhancements
The number of enhancements for Enovia V6 2013x is too many to list here. We have
listed what we feel are the most relevant enhancements to our customer base. As always if you have any specific questions to what is new in Enovia V6 or any general questions or assistance with Enovia V6 feel free to contact us. Enhancements: General
Rich Text Editor - The rich text editor control for use on Webform and other
pages (structure tables) provides basic text formatting. Users can mark text as
bold, italic, underlined, strikethrough, superscript, or subscript. In addition,
special characters can be entered.
Spellchecker - 2013x supports integration with a 3rd-party spell checker tool.
The tool must be licensed and installed separately from the ENOVIA server and
applications. When installed, fields or columns defined as text area show a Spell
Check button that opens a window where the user can check the spelling and
grammar, or use a thesaurus.
Grouping Rows - A row grouping tool is added to the toolbar for structure
browser pages. This feature allows the user to better decipher the data by
grouping similar items. With this feature, the user can group the data by up to 3
logical groups.
Consolidated Notifications - Notification emails may be consolidated
periodically into a single email, compared to prior releases that sent individual
emails for each notification. The default interval for accumulating notifications
may be set for each notification type by the applications. The user may override
these settings.
Improved Security through Hiding of Web Session Credentials - The following variables are no longer set in the session during user login: (i) ematrix.user, (ii) ematrix.password, (iii) ematrix.vault Getter/Setter API Methods for Web Session Credentials. The getter/setter API methods for user name, password, and vault, previously available in a web session, are deprecated in the current release. They are targeted for removal in V6R2014x.

Collaborative Design for SolidWorks:
Performance Optimizations - Performance enhancements have been added to
this release of ENOVIA Collaborative Design for SolidWorks that improves the
performance when users open large files and perform various edit and save
operations.
My Workspace – A private folder that other cannot see. You can put files
directly into this folder or share files to the folder by using drag and drop or Copy
and Paste Shared. This lets you work directly in My Work without having to
browse for the files.
Auto-naming during File Save Operations - ENOVIA Collaborative Design for
SolidWorks can be configured to create auto-name generators for use in naming
SolidWorks files.
Check In of Derived PDF Files – The ability to configure Designer Central to
automatically create and Check in a PDF file based on the SolidWorks file(s)
being checked in.
Baselines - This lets you capture a design or design structure to use as a
benchmark before making more changes to the design. You can use the History
or Get dialog boxes to retrieve a baselined document.
VPM Collaborative Platform
Working Offline and Offline Mode - You can now work for a limited period of
time without connecting to the ENOVIA V6 server.
Creating New Objects - You can now create objects through an immersive
dialog box and you can administrate some parts of the dialog box.
Managing Report Models and Report Templates - This functionality lets you
create, complete or delete report models or report templates from ENOVIA.
