Dr. Shimi Education & Fellowships Dr. Shimi completed his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at the University of Toronto in 2003, following an undergraduate Physiology degree at the University of Western Ontario. He further completed an intensive residency year

in the Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) program at the University of Maryland in Baltimore, with emphasis on Cosmetic and Implant Dentistry.

Dr. Shimi’s dedication and ongoing attention to continuing education has been awarded by achieving 3 fellowships from prestigious institutions which is an extremely rare achievement shared by only a handful of dentists in all of Canada. This level of training directly translates to a more a comfortable, efficient and satisfactory outcome for our patients.

In everyday practice, Dr. Shimi enjoys educating his patients on ways to achieve their optimal oral health, as well as providing comprehensive dental care in reaching this goal whether all at once, or one step at a time.

Esthetic Fillings

When silver or mercury fillings begin to age they no longer seal the tooth from the invading sugars and bacteria. This is problematic because this often leads to new decay underneath the existing filling which is difficult to diagnose until it’s too late and the tooth has become painful.

By assessing the worn out fillings with the use of enlarged images from the intra-oral camera, the patient becomes a partner in their own diagnosis, since it is quite obvious which fillings are sealing the tooth well and which are not.

This early detection prevents painful and more expensive dental treatment down the line. At Yonge Smiles we use only tooth coloured fillings which restore small and medium size fillings with great strength and unsurpassed smoothness and esthetics.

Patient comfort is a huge top priority at Yonge Smiles. We get many repeat referrals from long time dental avoiders and anxious patients.
