ABOUT THE PROCESS

Nominations Nominations for all positions are to be submitted electronically to Holly Ransom the Returning Officer at [email protected] on the designated Nomination Form (bottom of page).

Elected positions Nominations for the elected positions (Chair, Secretary, Treasurer) must be received by 12 noon WST on Tuesday 7 June 2011. The election will take place at the Young UN Women Australia’s Perth Committee End of Year Celebrations and Annual Meeting on Wednesday 8 June 2010. Candidates are invited to submit one A4 page in support of their candidacy, which will be displayed on the night to facilitate the informed voting of members. The A4 page may contain images. This document should accompany the Nomination Form. The election will be undertaken by secret bal-lot and the winners will be announced on the evening. While attendance at the meeting is open to all who are interested, only financial members of UN Women Australia will be able to vote. Voting must be done in person. Unsuccessful candidates are encouraged to nominate for an appointed position.

Appointed positions Nominations for the appointed positions (Events Coordinators, Media and Com-munications Coordinators, Fundraising and Sponsorships Coordinator, Membership and Volunteer Co-ordinator) must be received by 12noon WST on Monday 13 June 2011. Candidates are invited to submit an application consisting of a brief CV and a covering letter detailing their suitability for the role. This application should accompany the Nomination Form. The elected 2011/12 Chair, Secretary and Treasurer will assess all applications and may contact candidates to discuss their application. The 2011/12 Chair will be in touch with a decision in late June / early July 2011.

Young UN Women Australia’s Perth Committee will hold its End of Year Celebrations and Annual Meeting on Wednesday 8 June 2011 at the Wembley Hotel, 344 Cambridge St Wembley. Please arrive at 6 pm for a 6.30pm start. The meeting will finish at 8pm, and pizza will be served. The Annual Meeting will consist of an overview of the 2010/11 year of Young UN Women Perth by current Chair Holly Ransom, and provide an opportunity for members to ask questions of the current Committee and network with fellow volunteers. The Evening will also provide the opportunity for the Committee to pay thanks to the incredible volunteers who’ve made the achievements of the 2010/11 year possible. The evening will also involve voting for the three elected positions on the 2011/12 Committee. While attendance at the meeting is open to all who are interested, only financial members of UN Women Australia will be able to vote. Voting must be done in person.

Policy Team Members Reports to Policy Coordinators Areas of responsibility Developing UN Women Australia policy in relation to gender and development issues, developing Young UN Women Australia Perth as an advocacy organisation Allocated roles Assisting the Policy Coordinator with the development of policy and advocacy related activities. For example, this may include helping to organise an event which allows women to have their voices heard on key issues, drafting a submission to government or writing policy articles to be posted on Gender Equality Online. Duties may include• Writing policy briefs relating to events on a state-wide, national, and international level; • Organizing policy events to raise awareness of issues affecting women in Australia and abroad • Coordinating with YUNWA media, events and fundraising teams • Gender equality research- undertaking substantial research into a single area of interest for women’s equality. • Policy partnership officer- Coordinating with politicians, interest groups and other relevant organizations to build a coalition/ support the advocacy of women’s interests in WAEach policy officer will have a separate port-folio about which they will write a monthly web posting on a rotating basis.

Activi-ties may include organising stalls on O Day or during other campus events, putting up posters, lecture bashing, distributing flyers, ensuring information is put in newsletters and on websites, organising a casual clothes day or a fundraising BBQ, etc.

Events Team Event Organiser Reports to Events Coordinators Areas of responsibility Young UN Women Australia Perth events Allocated roles An Events Team Event Organiser is a member of the Events Team who takes on a leadership role in organising and co-ordinating a particular event. Tasks may include sourcing a venue, approaching speakers, organising entertainment, putting together a programme, purchasing/arranging refreshments, developing a run sheet, facilitating the event on the day/night and other tasks necessary to the successful organisation and running of a Young UN Women Australia event.
