Dinner Topic: “Recent Significant Damages Opinions and Trends in Daubert Rulings” Young Lawyers Committee Topic: “Nuts & Bolts: Perspectives and Insider Tips from Current and Former Federal Court Clerks” Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at The California Club 538 South Flower Street Los Angeles, California 90071 Business Attire Pre-Reception YLC Meeting: 5:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Reception & Dinner: 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Dinner: LAIPLA’s March dinner meeting will feature a discussion on recent significant damages opinions and trends in Daubert rulings. Alston & Bird partner David Ben-Meir, Irell & Manella partner Ellisen Turner, and 3C Advisors & Associates economist Dr. Louis Wilde will discuss a 3C study surveying court opinions nationwide from 2008-2012 addressing Daubert motions, guidelines for making sure your expert reports pass muster, and tips for attacking opposing parties’ experts. The panelists will also discuss recent significant damages opinions, including Judge Posner’s opinions in Apple Inc. and NeXT Software Inc. v. Motorola, Inc. and Motorola Mobility, Inc. and Brandeis University and GFA Brands v. Keebler Co. et al. Financial expert Stephen C. Jones of 3C Advisors will moderate. Eligible for 1 unit of MCLE credit. YLC Pre-Reception Meeting: The Young Lawyers Committee will present a panel titled “Nuts & Bolts: Perspectives and Insider Tips from Current and Former Federal Court Clerks.” The panel will include illustrations on lawyers (young and old) succeeding (or faltering) in the courtroom and insight regarding how experience in chambers helps shape a successful practice. Panelists will include current and former Central District of California and 9th Circuit clerks. Laura Blau Michel, associate at Knobbe Martens, will moderate. Eligible for .5 units of MCLE credit.
