You’re Invited to IES’s Open House and Oktoberfest Thursday, October 5th, 2017 Peter Blaha is the Product Marketing Manager for Ruskin’s Architectural Solutions Department. He is excited to be part of the Ruskin team and loves to work with reps, engineers, and architects to develop innovative products that are highly desired by the construction market. Peter has five years of experience in architectural products such as louvers, screens and penthouses, and over fifteen years of HVAC experience as a product manager. This louver course will go over the various types of louvers that are available in the industry and will go into the performance parameters of these louvers. Peter will also discuss some of the AMCA testing that goes into certifying these louvers. Phil Rodenbaugh is the National Business Development Manager for Powered Aire. Phil is a member of AIA and ASME. He graduated from Theil College in 1999. Phil’s Presentation will emphasize why there is a need for air curtains and how air curtains perform. Additional- ly, where air curtains can be utilized to maximize the benefits of a highly uniform stream of air. Craig Yeager is the regional Sales Manager for DurkeeSox. Craig has spent over 30 years in the HVAC Industry. He started his career working for some of the largest spiral pipe manufacturers and has switched teams the last 6 years working for two of the larger fabric duct manufacturers. Understanding where and when fabric duct is a good idea in place of spiral duct will be the focus of Craig’s presentation. Craig will also discuss the differences between the different fabric duct manufacturers, and the history of fabric duct. He has a Bachelor’s of Sci- ence degree from the University of Toledo and over 20 years of experience with HVAC; and 15 years specifically with indoor air quality products. He is IGSHPA Certified. Paul’s Presentation will be a discussion of ASHRAE 62-2001, Indoor Air Quality Procedure, the benefits to using IAQ Procedure, reduction of outside air require- ments, and reduced static pressure. Indoor Air Quality, Air Cleaning, Energy, and Maintenance Session 4 2:00 PM Using Fan Arrays to Solve a Myriad of Air Handling Challenges Session 5 2:00 PM Babak Solati is the North Eastern Regional Sales Manager for Air Handling for Nortek Air Solutions. Babak has more than 22 years of experience in HVAC system design and applications: his first eight years with a consulting engineer and the last 14 years with Nortek Air Solutions. Babak is responsible for the sales of five well known custom air handing brands: Ventrol, Huntair, Temtrol, Governair and Venmar. Babak’s presentation will help attendees understand how building design, function and location drive application considerations and requirements for fan arrays in air handling systems, especially highlighting retrofit trends. Using Evaporative Humidification to Accomplish Multiple Goals! Session 6 2:00 PM Thomas Klein is the Eastern Regional Manager with Nortec Humidity Inc. He has over three decades of expe- rience and employment with some of the most known and respected consumer and industrial corporations in the world, including 3M, GE and Beiersdorf AG. He brings a passion to help his clients and end customers uncover needs and solve problems for the benefit of all parties. The discussion of evaporative humidification by Thomas will focus on energy savings, Health IAQ, ASHRAE 170, customer satisfaction, and ease of maintenance Science and Application of Infrared Heat Session 7 2:00 PM Stuart Egeli served 20 years as a Naval Aviator and in various staff positions throughout the world. He joined Detroit Radiant Products Sales team in the spring of 2016 as the Sales Manag- er, Eastern Region. He now oversees the sales efforts of 33 independent representatives in the eastern half of the United States. Stuart will cover the principles of Infrared Theory and the types of Infrared Heaters; General Design Princi- ples, Safety, Construction Properties and Efficiencies. As well as Engineered Vacuum Systems Sustainable Design of Energy Efficient Laboratory Exhaust Systems Session 8 3:00 PM Sarah Thornsberry joined Strobic Air in January 2016 as the Eastern Regional Sales Manager. She assists the regional rep network with new lab exhaust design selection and post-instal- lation support. Prior to joining Strobic, she worked for Big Ass Fans as the State/Local Government Sales Manager for both direct sales and new construction. Laboratories are notorious for being energy hogs in just about any application you see in the field. Sarah’s session will cover a number of steps you can take towards designing a sustainable exhaust system for such applications that meet all of the industry standard safety and performance needs while minimizing energy consumption. Dave Binz is the Application Engineering Manager for Cambridge Engineering. Dave holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame and has extensive experience in the High Efficiency HVAC market. He joined Cambridge Engineering as a Regional Sales Manager and now travels North America speaking to engineers, building owners, and utilities on next generation heating and ventilation technologies. HTHV -- The Secret to High Performance Space Heating & Ventilation in High Bay Buildings Session 9 3:00 PM Dave’s presentation details a recent field study that demonstrates how High Temperature Heating & Ventilation (HTHV) technologies can save 40-70% gas savings compared to other common heating technologies. If widely adopted to replace traditional heating systems and/or heating and ventilation systems for Commercial & Industrial Warehouse/Distribution applications, HTHV technologies would have a significant impact on overall energy in the U.S. Energy Harvesting Diffusers Session 10 3:00 PM Tony Fu, Titus Regional Sales Manager for N.E. U.S., Canada, and Latin America, joined Titus in 2007; just celebrat- ed his 10th year anniversary with the company. With 10 years experience in the HVAC industry, Tony has focused a lot on promoting energy efficient and green specs products. With green movement and personal comfort going deep into the heart of the building construction busi- nesses; focusing on energy harvesting and personal comfort to increase on productivity are critical in today’s world. Titus has always focused on innovation and is excited to present some very interesting energy harvesting products to you. Ice Arena HVAC Design for Engineers Session 11 3:00 PM Mark Bradley is a Senior Application Specialist for Climate by Design International, Inc., a Minnesota-based manufacturer of standard and custom desiccant dehumidification air handling equipment. Mark’s experience includes application-specific dry air HVAC solutions for indoor ice arenas in addition to surgical suite humidity control, manufacturing process, archival storage, food processing and water treatment facility moisture control. Mark will discuss of the basics of desiccant dehumidifi- cation including, special requirements that need to be considered for indoor ice arenas, hospital operating suites, load estimating and a psychrometric overview. Air Turnover - Design Concept for Large Open Spaces Session 12 4:00 PM “Heat Pipe” an Alternative Energy Recovery Product Session 13 4:00 PM Doug Halterman is the Director of HVAC Sales for Weather-Rite, LLC in Minneapolis, MN. Weather-Rite, LLC is manufacturer for HVAC product for the industrial market. Doug Halterman brings over 25 years of valuable experience and expertise in the HVAC industry. Doug’s presentation will compare Air Turnover and Rooftop Units and discuss the questions: What differ- ent types of fans are used in Air Turnover equipment? How is the heating and cooling load determined? How do you calculate the air change of a building and what determines the number of air changes required? What are first cost and operating cost differences between packaged RTUs and Air Turnover? Dean Scheurich is the HVAC Products Sales Manager for Ad- vanced Cooling Technologies, located in Lancaster, PA, man- ufacturing Heat Pipes as an energy recovery alternative for AHUs. Dean has over 20 years of experience in the commercial and residential HVAC markets including more than half of his HVAC experience with manufacturers of commercial equipment including dedicated outside air, humidification, water source heat pumps, precision cooling, comfort cooling and industrial cooling. Dean’s Heat Pipe seminar will first review the basic operation of a Heat Pipe and outline two energy recovery HVAC Methods: Wrap Around and Air to Air including working demos for each system.
