of your plan in your pitch – casting desires,

include a paragraph explaining

the following information:

• Who is your target

audience?

• Where would the ad

appear?

OPTION 2 – THE ROAD

MAP

Making a Storyboard for Your Film

MAIN PAGE

Your Assignment:

You’ve successfully pitched your film to the studio

executives. Now you must share your vision with your

director, actors and studio executives. Film directors

do this using a storyboard.

MAIN PAGE

A storyboard is a series of illustrations that show

others what you plan to do in your film, including stage

directions, camera angles, characterization, costuming,

props, location, and dialog. This is done with both

pictures and text.

MAIN PAGE

Click the image below to hear Pixar’s

take on storyboarding (8:52).

MAIN PAGE

Your storyboard should map out one scene of your

film, and should include at least 5 key parts of the

scene. There is a storyboard generator at

http://generator.acmi.net.au/storyboard

MAIN PAGE

Each page of the storyboard should

include:

An image of that particular moment in the scene. It

should show camera angles, lighting, framing (who &

what are in the shot)

Some of the dialog from that particular moment in

the scene

A description of the action in that particular moment

in the scene

MAIN PAGE

Requirements:

You must submit at

least 5 frames of

storyboard, including

the elements above.

Can be completed by

hand or electronically

The impact that the scene has on the rest of the film

SAM WATERSTON

MAIN PAGE

MAIN PAGE

I would cast Sam Waterston to play Nick Carraway in The Great Gatsby

Waterston has played several parts that have

prepared him for playing Nick. In the TV

series I’ll Fly Away, he played attorney

Forrest Bedford, a man looking for the truth

in a time when the truth was not popular. In

Law and Order, he played Assistant Attorney

Jack McCoy. He was always fighting to

make sure the system was fair and the truth

got out. He voiced Brian’s psychiatrist in

The Family Guy, showing that he can play a

character who listens to people and helps

them solve their problems.

The characters that he has played

compassionately listened to others while

the character himself was searching for

his own truth. That’s what Nick

Carraway does in The Great Gatsby.

The most important scene that Nick plays

in would be the scene where he goes to

Myrtle’s house with Tom and realizes that

Tom is a low life. After that, Nick realizes

that it’s okay to help Gatsby see Daisy

because Daisy’s husband is a creep.

MAIN PAGE

By the way – you can’t use

this actor because he actually

DID play Nick in the 1974

version of The Great Gatsby.

Sorry!

RE Q U IRE ME NTS:

shot for each cast member. MAY include video of each

cast member in other roles.

Playing Dress Up

Costumes and Make Up

MAIN PAGE

Your assignment:

You are the costume designer and/or make up

artist for a film based on your summer reading

book. Your job is to design the costumes and/or

make up for 5 of your most important characters.

MAIN PAGE

For this option, you must submit original visual

MAIN PAGE

Why are costumes & make up important?

Costuming and make up help to tell the story.

They let the audience know a character’s state of

mind, whether or not the character is a hero or

villain, or rich or poor. Costuming and make up

also let us know the time period of the film and

possibly the location.

MAIN PAGE

For Example…The Joker Consider which version of The Joker (from Batman) is

more disturbing.

How did the costuming and

make up impact the audience’s

perception of the character?
