Objective – Work out how you can explain about different ‘genres’ of plays to year 8 pupils who haven’t started this project. Make it informative, colourful and add drawings to help him/her remember key facts. The yellow booklet [genre cook book] is one idea you could base it on. It isn’t very eye catching though! You must include- 1. Definition of ‘genre’ 2. All 4 genres we study [farce, naturalism, absurd, tragedy] You could add ….. Why a genre became popular eg. ABSURD- Just after world war 2 many people were having to come to terms with the loss of many they had known who died. It seemed that life was rather ‘absurd’ , illogical. Pictures to help visual learners remember key facts eg.‘LOOT’ IT MUST BE BOOKLET FORMAT. There will be a prize for the best one! 3.The names of plays + playwrights Absurd= ‘Waiting for Godot’ by Samuel Beckett Naturalism = ‘A Doll’s House’ by Henrik Ibsen Farce = ‘Loot’ by Joe Orton Tragedy = ‘Romeo & Juliet’ by Shakespeare.
