Comprehensive Curriculum

Nurturing Global CitizensTransformative and Multidisciplinary EducationNUS’ transformative education provides multiple academic pathways, which includes a broad-based curriculum underscored by multidisciplinary and cross-faculty learning opportunities. Students have the flexibility to structure their education to fulfill their potential. Our students are equipped with entrepreneurship training and exposure to real world issues so as to gain a competitive advantage in a fast moving world.

NUS offer a diverse and comprehensive choice of courses from its 16 faculties and a range of Double, Concurrent and Joint Degree programmes, in collaboration with leading international institutions.

Through these diverse and stimulating programmes, we aim to develop both strength in character and a drive for excellence in our students. We motivate them to explore their interests, discover their talents and pursue their passions, and to create their own NUS experience!

Grade-free SemesterNUS have implemented a grade-free first semester for first-year undergraduates commencing in 2014. This new initiative will be available for students in Arts & Social Sciences, Business, Computing, Design and Environment, Engineering, Music, Nursing and Science. This change will allow students to opt whether to use their

first semester’s grades to count towards their Cumulative Average Point (CAP).

Concurrently, NUS will introduce a new General Education (GE) curriculum in 2015, where students will be required to read three GE modules from the pillars of Human Cultures and Endeavours, Quantitative Reasoning, and Thinking and Expression; and a Singapore Studies module.

This structure will offer a more structured approach to broaden the intellectual base of students, and help develop skills necessary for life-long inquiry and learning.

YOUR CHOICE OF ACADEMIC PROGRAMMES

The NUS degree is widely accepted by leading employers around the world. Singapore’s oldest university is reputed amongst employers for decades in producing graduates with a strong academic foundation and capability to adapt and apply their knowledge in their respective vocations. Credited to NUS’ broad-based curriculum and multidisciplinary education, our graduates are able to realise their potential. NUS also provide an array of professional career-related services and industrial attachments via the NUS Centre for Future-ready Graduates to give students the edge in today’s competitive employment market.nus.edu.sg/osa/ncc

Developing Collaborative Learning CommunitiesResidential Colleges aim to meld living and learning environments. Students residing in them enrol in a carefully designed curriculum, comprising multidisciplinary modules taught in small-group seminars. This is supplemented by various learning opportunities outside the classroom, ranging from casual conversations with visiting faculty or dignitaries to formal dinners and forums. Students often strike a balance between work and play by initiating events and activities, thus promoting a collegial culture.

Comprehensive CurriculumNurturing Global Citizens

UTown Residential Colleges, the first of their kind in Singapore and Southeast Asia, provide an exciting alternative for undergraduate campus living. The colleges incorporate academic programmes designed to facilitate an engaged and stimulating learning experience in comfortable residential settings. In addition to extra-curricular activities, incoming freshmen will take five of their classes at the college over a two-year period, helping them fulfill their university-level degree requirements. Some students from non-modular faculties and from overseas exchange programmes add to the residential mix. Students from any NUS faculty are eligible to apply to the College of Alice and Peter Tan or Tembusu College.utown.nus.edu.sg/programmes/overview

The University Scholars Programme (USP), being a broad-based institution of higher learning, provides our students with opportunities to learn from diverse disciplines across seven faculties. USP provides a platform for students with keen intellect and a passion for learning to further develop their academic capacities through diverse academic experiences right up to designing their own modules and subject majors. Students who are enrolled into USP will reside in Cinnamon College during their programme.usp.nus.edu.sg

Ridge View Residential College (RVRC) presents a uniquely new residential learning experience for Year One students in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, School of Computing, School of Design & Environment, Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Science. The one year experience instils in the students’ university experience, values and qualities contributing to their overall development as undergraduates - academically, personally, and professionally – with close engagement with the industry. It also allows for Year One students to experiment with different learning platforms and modes, expand their skill sets, and explore academic and career alternatives.rvrc.nus.edu.sg

Double Degree ProgrammeDouble Degree Programmes (DDP) allow students to graduate with two different degrees in two disciplines from the same faculty or from two different faculties within NUS.

Concurrent Degree ProgrammeConcurrent Degree Programmes (CDP) involve a combination of a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree from the same faculty or from two different faculties. Such programmes allow students to pursue the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree concurrently.
