Insurance Adjusters creed: “YOU ARE THE ENEMY” “The insured is our enemy, depreciation is our friend.” This phrase was written on the blackboard by a student at the most prestigious insurance school in the country. It was on the first day of a class I attended when I worked for insurance companies exclusively. This school trains new and experienced adjusters. This particular class was for experienced adjusters from all over the country. During the entire two week duration of the class, the instructor used the blackboard every day and erased everything on the blackboard at the end of every day, except that phrase. We adjusters thought nothing of it and were actually amused by it. I’m not saying that we were all bad people. I’m just trying to show you where their mentality is. I myself did not lose this mentality until after I became a public adjuster. If you really trust your insurance company, you need to glance at the attached documents and news articles. The idea here is not to bash any one company, but to give you an idea of their mentality. Most adjusters develop this attitude because many people, given the opportunity will “embellish” their claim to some extent. When adjusters catch policy holders doing this, it leads them to the belief that all claims are exaggerated, so much so to the point that even honest mistakes by a policy holder are viewed as intentional. Are you really IN GOOD HANDS” with Allstate? Is State Farm really YOUR GOOD NEIGHBOR” ? Does Farmers really GET YOU BACK WHERE YOU BELONG” ? Note : While there are insurers that I do recommend over others when it comes to buying insurance, you are always in an adversarial position when you have a claim. You will always encounter “maverick” adjusters and supervisors no matter how good the company is. If you think the Department of Insurance can help you, look at the attached articles. Chuck Quackenbush came from an insurance company background. Even though he is now gone, most of the employees at the Department of Insurance are former insurance company employees. Attitude wise, nothing much will ever change there.
