Communication issues

Regular meetings with the full time H&S Managers

Less frequent contact with part time colleagues, other than at audit visits or accident investigations

Some contact between full time H&S Managers and part time colleagues

Desire to ensure that people don’t feel isolated and don’t re-invent the wheel

The changing University

Blurring of the borderline between “high risk” and “low risk” areas

Cross-School and even cross-College collaborations

Blurring between scientific disciplines– chemists, physicists, engineers and geoscientists all

doing biological work

Importance of communication

Direct route to the Health and Safety Department is always available

Often that route is the first choice option – need to contact the relevant specialist

More inter-communication between colleagues at School etc level can only help

Guard against a two tier system at School etc level and avoid isolation
