TOP TEN REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD

BE A STEPHEN MINISTER

Reason #1 Jesus Commanded it

“My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.” We are called to “bear one another’s burdens,” and to “accept one another.” Jesus wanted us to be doers of the Word, not just hearers. Stephen Ministers are in the trenches every day, caring for those who are hurting, bringing warmth and kind-ness to those who feel alone, creating an atmosphere where trust and respect can lead to wholeness. Stephen Ministers answer the call of Jesus,

We are all called to care!!

If you would like to learn how to be there to help when people are hurting you may want to take FLOW class. “Christian Caregiving-Why Care?”

HELP NEEDED

Please give prayerful consideration to

volunteering in Children’s Ministry in the following areas

Sunday School, Children’s Church, after school programs,

and F.L.O.W. Children’s Ministry doesn’t happen with-

out the help of parents and other adults who are willing to

give of their time—even if it means missing their own

Sunday School class or Wednesday evening class to work

with kids. Working with children will give you a huge

blessing! If you have ever thought about volunteering,

but were afraid you didn’t know enough, or didn’t think

you had the skills, or just plain were scared, give Debbie a

call! She can hook you up with a job and the help needed

to pull it off!

What is a Blessing Box? If you look on the light pole outside the Northeast corner of the sanctuary, you’ll see a metal box that may have food and other basic staples inside. This is our newly installed blessing box. Many have a sign that says something like, “Take what you need. Bring what you can. Above all, be blessed.” Big Thanks to Kathy Wales, David Patterson, and Randy Glitch for helping make this project a reality. We’ll be talking more about the box and the sorts of things you can do

to help with it in the weeks to come!

New Members! Nathan and Raquel Razien became the newest members of our congregation on August 6th. Both joined as professions of faith. Raquel is our local employee of Circle of Care, our United Methodist agency in Oklahoma that focuses on youth and children’s homes and foster

care. Be sure to meet and get to know both Raquel & Nathan!

Part-Time Youth and Children’s Assistant

We are looking for someone passionate about youth and children’s ministry to assist the chil-dren’s and youth ministry directors (Debbie and Jamison) during their regular weekly activities. This would probably include pm times on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Please contact the pastor for more details!

Hey, Kids!

Wednesday Night F.L.O.W. Class for

Pre-K thru 6th Grade

The activities for the children in PK-6th grade will include singing, games, and a lesson utilizing Science and the Bible. It will be a fun and meaningful even-ing! We also do Bible Blast during this time. You

can read more about it in the Newsletter.

YOUTH FLOW.

All youth, grades 6-12, are invit-ed to join Jamison in the youth room for a Bible study and some fun games. For the fall sessions, the youth will be taking a trip through the Gospel of Mark in a study titled “Soul”.

There’s also usually separate bible studies for Men and Women that start up. Maybe you are the one to teach it!

Many Ways to

How can using your imagination and creativity

enhance your prayer life? What about praying

scripture, or attempting to pray all day as you con-

tinue normal activities? How can imagination or

moving your body be incorporated into prayer?

Shannon Davis will lead the group in learning and

trying various forms of prayer that Christians have

employed for hundreds of years. Veteran prayer

warriors and those who struggle to pray will

benefit from this class!

&

Christian Caregiving — Why Care?

Do you ever feel uncomfortable talking about your faith, praying with others, or trying to comfort a

friend? This study will challenge and equip you to care for others in a distinctively Christian way.

We will learn how to be a caregiver by: learning good listening skills, helping people establish

good boundaries, how to provide spiritual care, ministering to those who are grieving, learning how to forgive, and by learning about your own spiritual gifts. Karen Bell will teach this class.

Wednesday Night F.L.O.W. Class for

Pre-K thru 6th Grade

Bible Blast is a tool for families to talk,

walk, lie down, get up, tie, wear, and write the word of

God on your child’s heart. (based on Deuteronomy 6:4-

9). The focus is to keep parents on the right road and

appropriate age level to accomplish the goal of im-

pressing the Word of God on the hearts of their chil-

dren. The program is designed for 4 year olds

through 6th graders. This is an excellent program that

can be done year after year. Participation can give

your children the tools they need to navigate the mine

fields of our world today. There is a cost of $45.00 to

purchase the Bible Blast Bible and manual. It is a one-

time purchase and can be used for your entire family

year after year. Children and parents will sit down

each week and read and discuss the assigned reading

for the week. On Wednesday during F.L.O.W. the chil-

dren who participate will be questioned on the weekly

reading and will earn BIBLE BUCKS for each correct an-

swer. The BIBLE BUCKS can then be used to purchase

prizes in our BIBLE BLAST store. Call Debbie at the

church if you are interested in having your family par-

ticipate in this wonderful study.
