SHARE THE HOPE The readings for today’s celebration of the Ascension of the Lord once again remind us that as Christians we are people of hope. In the second reading Saint Paul eloquently ex-horts the Ephesians to enlighten their hearts so that they will know the hope and glory that come from being people who place their trust in the Lord Jesus. In the story of the Ascen-sion, recounted in the first reading, the Lord Jesus assures the disciples that the Holy Spirit’s power will come upon them. Finally, in the Gospel, the Lord lets the disciples know that their mission is to spread the hope of the gospel to all the nations. This wonderful feast keeps our eyes focused on the hope in which we were grounded on the day of our baptism. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.
COMPARTE LA ESPERANZA Las lecturas de hoy para la celebración de la Ascensión del Señor una vez mas nos recuer-dan que los cristíanos somos pueblo de es-peranza. En la segunda lectura, san Pablo con elocuencia exhorta a los efesios a iluminar su mente para que puedan conocer la esperanza y la Gloria que vienen de ser personas que ponen su confianza en el Señor Jesús. En el relato de la Ascencion, narrado en la primera lectura, el Señor Jesús asegura a los discipulos que el poder del Espiritu Santo vendrá sobre ellos. Finalmente, en el Evangelío, el Señor da a conocer a los discipulos que su misión es proclamar el Evangelío a todas las naciones. Faith In Action The Faith In Action ministry will be sponsoring two weekend presentations in June-Social Justice month dedicated to the love of Jesus expressed in the symbol of the Sacred Heart (started under Msgr Francisco Rios). The first presentation is on “Caring for God’s Creation, Knowing our Cre-ator through Creation”, June 10th and 11th, and the second is on “Dignity of the Human Person and Solidarity, The Diocesan Pastoral Response to Our Immigrant Brothers and Sisters, on June 24th & 25th. There will be outside speakers for several of the masses, including Anthony Strawa, Co-Chair of the Catholic Green Initiative Office of Social Ministries for the Diocese of San Jose, who will be speaking the weekend of June 10/11, and Fr Jon Pedigo, Director of Projects for Peace and Justice, who will be speaking on June 25th.
Fe en Acción El Ministerio de Fe en Acción estará patrocinando dos presentaciones de fin de semana durante el mes de junio, como mes de la Justicia Social dedicado al amor de Jesús expresado en el símbolo del sa-grado corazón (iniciado bajo la dirección de Mons. Francisco Rios). La primera presentación es el "Cuidado de la Creación de Dios, Conocer a nuestro Creador a través de la Creación", el 10 y 11 de junio y la segunda es sobre "Dignidad de la persona humana y la soli-daridad, la respuesta pastoral diocesana a nuestros hermanos inmigrante”, el 24 y 25 de junio. Lord God, in your kind-ness you sent your Son to be our shepherd and guide. We are grateful that you sent Father Steve to this parish to sus-tain and direct this com-munity with wisdom and love.
Let your spirit always uphold him as he minis-ters to this St. John Vianney community. Give him the grace and courage to persevere in faith, hope and love.
Let his words be echo of Christ's voice, so that we who hear them may be drawn to Christ.
Lord God, bless and strengthen Father Steve. May he remain faithful to you and always rejoice in your kindness, faithful-ness. mercy and love.

Theme: Jesus prays for his disciples
Scripture: I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name—the name you gave me—so that they may be one as we are one. John 17:11
One day, Jesus went off by himself to pray. He prayed for his disciples because he knew that his disciples had to live in the world, and the evil things of the world would tempt them. He also knew that if his disciples would come together as one, they would be much stronger than they would as individuals. So he prayed and asked God to protect them and to help them to be one, just as he and his Father were one.
Father, protect us and help us to be one with other believers, just as you are one with Jesus. Amen.
Reflect: If a word or phrase from the Gospel captures your heart, sit quietly for several minutes, repeating it to yourself and asking God to show you how it applies to your life.

ANUNCIOS Y NOTICIAS ESPECIALES
La Ascensión del Señor La Fiesta de Ascensión del Señor, nos invita a confiar en la promesa de Nuestro Señor Jesucristo, de que va a regresar a nosotros; y mientras su segunda venida gloriosa ocurre, nos hizo otra promesa, de enviarnos al Espíritu Santo para darnos fuerza en nuestra marcha y ser nuestro guía rumbo a la Tierra Prometida.
Es muy posible que los apóstoles pensaron que con Jesús ascendiendo al cielo, ya todo se estaba acabando, pero era todo los contrario, la historia de nuestra Iglesia estaba comenzando. Así como aquella primera comunidad cristiana fue llamada a confiar, a nosotros también se nos pide que confiemos a que Cristo regrese en gloria.
San Pablo anima a la Comunidad de Éfeso a confiar en que Jesús está con ellos y que ellos son su cuerpo junto con ca-da humano que cree en Cristo Jesús, que es la cabeza del cuerpo.
El confiar en el Señor Jesús será lo que nos lleve al éxito en esta vida, para gozar de la vida futura.
“Un joven, escalador de alta montaña, sufría graves dificultades en su solitario ascenso a la cumbre. El tiempo se había complicado mucho. Todo estaba poniéndose muy oscuro. La nieve caía sin cesar y una enorme cortina blanca apenas dejaba ver más allá de un palmo. De pronto, el joven resbaló y… se precipitó en el vacío. Solo la cuerda de escalada propició que el deportista quedara colgando.
Hacía mucho frío y, con un gran susto en el cuerpo, el joven suplicaba una y otra vez: ‘¡Dios mío, sálvame!’, ‘¡Dios mío, sálvame!’.
Poco tiempo había transcurrido cuando escuchó una voz potente que le decía: ‘Corta la cuerda’. Pero el escalador pen-saba para sí: ‘¡Corta la cuerda! No estoy tan loco. Aguantaré hasta el amanecer’. La voz insistía: ‘Joven, corta la cuer-da’. Una y otra vez: ‘Córtala’. Hasta que el alpinista dejó de escuchar…
Recién habría amanecido cuando unos montañeros que emprendían una subida, en un día que se anunciaba frío pero soleado, encontraron al escalador. Colgado; sujetado su arnés por la cuerda de seguridad. El joven había fallecido con-gelado.
Congelado y colgado de la soga… a medio metro del suelo. ¡50 centímetros era todo lo que le hacía falta para tocar el suelo!”.
Hoy estamos llamados a no dudar y a confiar en su Evangelio, la Buena Nueva de salvación; confiar en la misión que nos dejó nuestro Señor Jesús: “Vayan pues y enseñen a todas la naciones, bautizándolas en el nombre del Padre y del Hijo y del Espíritu Santo”. Y confiar en que El estará con nosotros todos las días hasta el fin del mundo.
