B9 Yorkton This Week | www.YorktonThisWeek.com | Wednesday, May 4, 2016 DEAN - It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Constance Muriel Dean (nee Landstad) of Yorkton, formerly of Rama, SK on Monday, April 18, 2016. With family by her side, sharing stories, she peacefully went to her eternal rest. Muriel was 95 years of age. Muriel was born on the family farm near the Whitesand River on April 30, 1920 to Beatrice (nee Lee) and Andrew Landstad. She was the eldest of five children, Muriel being the only girl. Muriel attended Stoneyview School up to Grade 8 but was also kept very busy helping her mother and looking after her brothers. During World War II she was employed as a nanny for a woman whose husband was serving over- seas. As a young woman Muriel enjoyed horseback riding, skiing, swimming in the Whitesand River and exploring its banks. Muriel married Donald Dean on June 6, 1946 at the Whitesand Lutheran Church, Sheho. Together they farmed four miles south of Rama and were blessed with five children: three daughters - Heather, Patricia & Cynthia and two sons - Trevor & Donald Jr. Muriel loved her family dearly and they were a source of pride and joy over the years. She was a wonderful cook, enjoyed making wool quilts, which she handed out freely. She was also an excellent seamstress and always maintained a large garden. The house was filled with books as she was an avid reader. Muriel also found spare time and joined the United Church choir in Invermay. If anyone in the community needed help, she was always there to lend a helping hand. Muriel delighted in spending time with her grandchildren on the farm, especially relishing in all their antics. Muriel also took great pleasure in showing her grandchildren the numerous colourful hummingbirds that came to a feeder close to the kitchen window. They will always remember and miss devouring grandma Dean’s delicious buns. Muriel and Donald retired in 1997 and moved to Yorkton, where they continued to enjoy fellowship with friends and family and do some traveling. Muriel was predeceased by her parents, Andrew and Beatrice Landstad; mother and father-in-law, Arthur and Edith Dean; her loving husband Donald; her brothers, Carroll, Alden and Jerome; sisters-in-law, Grace, Doreen, Rita & Yvonne; brothers-in- law, Ken and David. Left to cherish her memory are her children: son Trevor (Diana); Jeremy (Brandi) & Ethan, Hudson & Presley; Kristy; Janel (Rob) & Owen & Jude; daughter Heather (Allan) Bull; Ashley Zander; Tracy (Curtis) & Carson & Olivia; daughter Patricia Street; Mia (Troy) & Natalie & Ever; Robyn (Ian) & Elliot, Anna & Hadley; McKenzie (Jennifer) & Adaira, Cooper, Sawyer & Wyatt; son Donald Jr. (friend Kathy); Preston; Megan; daughter Cindy (Ray) Morrison; Kate (friend Braydon); Ellen; Loretta Dean (mother of Preston & Megan); Ashley Reid (mother of Zander). Muriel is also survived by her brother David; sister-in-law Lila, brothers-in- law Jim (Polly) and Neil, and families. The funeral service was held on Saturday, April 29, 2016 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Crystal Bailey, B.Th. officiating. Tributes were given by son Don and daughter Heather. SENCHUK - Minnie Senchuk passed into eternal rest on April 27, 2016 at her home. Minnie was born June 12, 1932 to Steve and Mary Zahayko on the family farm in the Fenwood District. She was the second of five children. She worked hard on the farm and had various other jobs in the community. During this time she met her husband Mike and on October 2, 1949 they were married at St. Mary’s Parish. The couple resided in various communities and settled in Yorkton in 1961 to raise their family. They were blessed with 43 years of marriage and four children, Richard, Louise, Wayne and Deanne. Minnie and Mike enjoyed dancing, fishing, gardening and most of all socializing with many friends and family. During her life in Yorkton, Minnie was an active member of St. Mary’s Parish and the UCWL. On the weekends you’d often find Minnie at the church hall convening various functions. Minnie was a devoted wife, homemaker and mother. You could always find her busy in the kitchen preparing meals and you would be assured to never leave her house hungry. She especially enjoyed preparing the traditional holiday meals and looked forward to having all her family home with her. Minnie was often asked to share her love of baking Easter Paskas by teaching students at various schools and the UCWL group. Minnie was a loving and compassionate person, always willing to help others by cooking meals, running errands and just spending time visiting. She was always concerned about the well-being of her family. Minnie was always happy with the simple things in life, next to baking and cooking, gardening was another one of her passions. Her family often jokes about the acres of potatoes she would plant and they would have to hill and dig! She also enjoyed sewing, knitting and canning. Minnie’s love and joy came from spending time with her grandchildren. You could always find her laughing, talking or attending their school and sporting events. Minnie’s warm smile and tender heart will be missed by everyone who were blessed to know her. Minnie was predeceased by her loving husband, Mike; her parents, Steve and Mary Zahayko; her in-laws, Paul and Mary Senchuk; siblings, Mike and Edward Zahayko; daughter-in-law, Gloria Senchuk and brother-in-law Harry Lazurko. The Requiem Divine Liturgy was sung on Monday, May 2, 2016 from St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton, SK. PLAN NUMBER 5-3-683

SUITE-IDEAL AS A MORTGAGE HELPER

This plans for this charming home include an optional basement with space for a second-ary suite, ideal as a mort-gage helper or to accom-modate adult children or aging parents.

A roomy verandah, flanked by painted pilas-ters, includes the porch and covered walkway that shelter the front door. To the left of the compact foyer is the third bedroom, with a view to the front garden. To the right is the laundry room and storage closet, while the great-room com-plex lies directly ahead through an archway.

The great room enjoys a gas fireplace, set in a corner to save space, as well as access to the partly-covered patio and the back garden beyond. Flowing into the great room is the dining area, which includes an optional buffet, always handy for storage and serving. A skylight will allow plenty of natural light to brighten this area.

The kitchen is sepa-rated from the great room

by a raised four-seat eat-ing bar, with work-space on the kitchen side. A window over the double sink is always a bonus. The L-shaped counter configuration will save steps for the cook, and the pantry will provide lots of room for canned goods and staples.

Also overlooking the back garden is the master bedroom, which features an extra-wide window sill, as well as an en-suite that includes double basins, a soaker tub and a glassed-in shower stall. The walk-in closet is reached through the en-suite.

The second and third bedrooms share a three-piece bathroom. A linen cupboard is located near the entrance to bedroom no. 2. Near the laundry room, which has access to the two-vehicle garage, a flight of stairs leads downstairs to the option-al suite.

Exterior finishes include board-and-bat-ten and wood shingles in the large gable at the front of the home, as well as wood siding, painted trim and brick accents.

This home measures 39 feet wide and 70 feet deep, for a total of 2,391

square feet. Ceilings on the main floor measure nine feet. The option-al suite measures 774 square feet.

Plans for design 5-3-683 are available for $835 (set of 5), $900(set of 8) and $952 for a super set of 10. B.C. residents add 7% Prov. Sales Tax. Also add $35.00 for Priority courier charges within B.C. or $65.00 outside of B.C. Please add 5% G.S.T. or 13% H.S.T. (where applicable) to both the plan price and postage charges.

Our NEW 48TH Edition of the Home Plan Catalogue containing over 400 plans is avail-able for $15.50 (includes taxes, postage and han-dling). Make all cheque and money orders pay-able to “JENISH HOUSE DESIGN LTD” and mail to:

Dispelling myths about gambling and edu-cating guests on the odds of winning and losing will be front-and-center as SaskGaming kicks off Responsible Gambling Awareness Week.

Casinos Regina and Moose Jaw will play host to a number of activities and information sessions to mark the week, which runs until May 6. With the help of SaskGaming’s GameSense Advisors, guests will learn valu-able tips about play-ing responsibly, while keeping their gambling experience both enter-taining and enjoyable.

“Providing gam-ing entertainment in a socially respon-sible manner is a hall-mark of SaskGaming,” Minister responsible for SaskGaming Nancy Heppner said. “Hosting Responsible Gambling Awareness Week pro-

vides an opportunity for SaskGaming to highlight this important compon-ent of the corporation’s mandate.”

As part of its commit-ment to responsible gam-bling, Casinos Regina and Moose Jaw maintain GameSense – a compre-hensive responsible gambling program with a team of trained advis-ors, information centres and kiosks for guests who require additional sup-ports.

“SaskGaming is proud to be a leader in respon-sible gambling program-ming in Saskatchewan,” SaskGaming President and CEO Susan Flett said. “As good corporate citizens, we are always seeking new ways to strengthen our commit-ments to guests by intro-ducing tools, expanding our resources and high-lighting the importance of a responsible gam-

bling experience.”In October 2015,

SaskGaming took steps to further enhance its responsible gambling program by introducing a disentitlement of win-nings policy. The policy allows Casinos Regina and Moose Jaw to with-hold prizes, such as winnings or any other rewards from individ-uals who are ineligible to win or have voluntar-ily self-excluded them-selves from casinos in Saskatchewan. Funds withheld through the policy are provided to charitable organiza-tions, events and pro-jects in Saskatchewan through SaskGaming’s Community Relations Program.

For more informa-tion on Responsible Gambling Awareness Week events and activ-ities, please visit, www.saskgaming.com.

The Government of Saskatchewan and the Saskatchewan Shortline Rail Association (SSRA) are partnering to raise train safety awareness in elementary schools across the province.

“Trains are busy carrying Saskatchewan’s food and fuel to market,” Regina Walsh Acres MLA Warren Steinley said on behalf of Highways and Infrastructure Minister Nancy Heppner. “As a father, I appreciate the effort the SSRA and prov-ince make to teach chil-dren that trains can be dangerous if you aren’t careful.”

The government and

SSRA distribute train safety activity booklets to Grade 4 students in more than 100 schools near Saskatchewan shortline railways.

“We continue to work with the province to relay these valuable safety messages,” SSRA President Perry Pellerin said. “The activity books are an excellent way to remind both children and adults how to prac-tice safe behavior around trains and railways.”

The Government of Saskatchewan conducts safety inspections and reviews shortline rail-ways safety manage-ment plans to ensure

their operating rules and plans are up-to-date.

Public Rail Safety Week is an Operation Lifesaver initiative that aims to bring awareness to rail safety and encour-ages people to be safe while travelling near rail crossings or tracks. Further resources can be found at Operation Lifesaver’s website at www.operationlifesaver.ca.

Saskatchewan has 1,160 shortline rail cross-ings, with 14 privately-owned shortline railways operating on 2,121 kilo-metres of provincially-regulated track. The shortlines connect to more than 6,000 kilo-metres of federally-regu-lated rail lines.
