John was the second oldest child born to Joseph and Catherine (nee Spilak) Wenet. His dad immigrated from Poland and his mom from Ukraine in the early 1900’s and settled on the homestead, which was to remain in the Wenet family for over 100 years. John completed grade 8 at Happy Home School and then chose to work alongside his father on the family farm. He worked tirelessly on the farm during the 1930’s despite the very dry years. John had great memories of growing up in a large farm family. September 1939, World War II broke out and John did not hesitate to enlist in the army. In December 1941 he was ordered to report to Depot in Regina for basic training. From there he did his advanced training as a machine gunner in Dundurn and was then transferred to Trois Rivieres, QC in April 1942. John’s tour of duty offered him the opportunity to see the beautiful Maritimes of Canada, with time stationed in Halifax, NS, tasked with guarding Peggy’s Cove. During the latter part of the war he was stationed in Gander, NF; an experience he greatly enjoyed. Despite the physical and emotional stressors and near death experiences, he loved to share his war stories. After being discharged from the army, John returned to the family farm. He would continue farming until retiring in 1997. On October 12, 1955, John married Mary Zulyniak at St. Gerard’s Roman Catholic Church in Yorkton. On June 20, 1957, their only child, Marlene Alice was born. They were saddened when Marlene passed away after a courageous battle with cancer in 1991. John and Mary spent many hours helping their son-in-law, Brian Trebish, raise the two boys, Colby and Michael. The boys were the joy of John and Mary’s life. John was a mixed farmer, working with cattle, chickens, pigs and still finding the time and energy to grow a profitable crop. John had a rich work ethic and could fix anything as he was blessed with an innovative mind. John worked very hard alongside Mary on the family farm, but they made sure they spent time with family, friends and neighbours playing cards, going to dances and sharing meals together. Everyone enjoyed John’s company, as he was always smiling and full of jokes. He was delighted to share stories about his farming experiences with everyone. In 1986, John and Mary semi-retired from farming and they moved to Yorkton. John’s passion for growing crops translated to growing a garden and tending to his beautiful yard. With Mary’s guidance, they produced an immaculate yard in which they took great pride, often receiving recognition as the best front yard in Yorkton. John thoroughly enjoyed the hours spent at the hockey rink watching his grandsons play the sport they loved. No matter the outcome of the game, he was their biggest fan. John and Mary were also very ac- tive in the St. Gerard’s Catholic Church. He became very proficient in making the perogies for fundraisers. In his final years, John spent many hours with his son-in-law, Brian and his family. He enjoyed family meals and spent many nights cheering on Michael who was playing hockey on TV from the U.S.A. John’s greatest joy came from holding his great- grandson, Bennet and watched him grow into a joyful one year old. The most important thing in John’s life was family and he treasured every moment. John passed away peacefully at the Yorkton Regional Health Center on January 7, 2016; three days after celebrating his 96th birthday. He was predeceased by his wife Mary, his daughter, Marlene, his parents, Joseph and Catherine Wenet, his sisters, Pearl (Pete) Yanish, Waltrina (Walter) Swerden, Frances, Helen (Gordon) Major, Violet (Alfred) Chipeur, Sophie, Maryanne Kreklewich and brother, Joseph. John leaves to mourn his death and celebrate his life, son-in-law, Brian Trebish; grand- children, Colby (Kathy) and great-grandson, Bennet Trebish and Michael (Kara) Trebish. His sister-in-law, Rose Ochitwa, sister-in-law, Olga Zulyniak, brother-in-law, Frank (Elsie) Zulyniak, brother-in-law, Philip Kreklewich and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. The prayer vigil was held on Monday evening, January 11, 2016 from St. Gerard’s Roman Catholic Church, Yorkton. Fr. Francis Hengen officiated. Pianist, Diana Hornung led the Parish Choir and the congregation in the hymns ‘Be Not Afraid’ , ‘Psalm 63’ , ‘In the Garden’ and ‘Day is Done’ . The Funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, January 12 from St. Gerard’s Church with Fr. Francis as Celebrant. The Lectors were Kathy Trebish and Diane Ochitwa, the gift bearers were Gloria Trebish and Anne Simon and Judy Bernat was the cross bearer. Organist, Judy Berg led the Parish Choir and the congregation in the hymns ‘Morning Has Broken’ , ‘Psalm 23’ , ‘Amazing Grace’ , ‘On Eagles Wings’ , ‘Song of the Angels’ and ‘How Great Thou Art’ . The interment took place in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Brian, Colby and Michael Trebish, Rick Ochitwa, Brian Zulyniak and Donald Wenet serving as the casket bearers. AIRRIESS - Ms. Isobel Airriess passed away at her home in Yorkton on Monday, January 11, 2016. She was eighty-three years of age. Isobel Edith Ann Airriess was born on January 15, 1932 at home on the farm near Togo, SK, the youngest in a family of twelve children. She grew up on the farm and helped her father and brothers with work around the farm. After graduating from Grade twelve Isobel worked for one year in the lab and X-ray department in Prince Albert, SK. Then she worked in Norquay, SK for 3 months. At that time she moved to Regina to take courses to become a qualified Lab Technician. After graduating from the Gray Nun’s Hospital she came back to Yorkton where she worked in the Yorkton General and then The Yorkton Regional Hospital until her retirement thirty years later. After her father died Isobel and her mother bought a house in Yorkton, which was home to both of them, and later also her brother John, until each of them passed away. Isobel loved sports and was actively involved in basketball and softball during her school years. She joined an adult softball team around Yorkton and played with them into her forties. When she could no longer participate she was still an avid fan of baseball (The Toronto Blue Jays were her favourite), football, curling and hockey. Right up until the last week she could name all of the players, teams and schedules. Isobel owned a car and enjoyed driving. She and her high school friend Irene Pearson (nee Topham) enjoyed going to movies and drove to the Calgary Stampede and to North and South Dakota. Later on, Isobel and her mother made many trips to Vancouver to visit Emma, Jim and their sons, Bryan, David and Scott. Other trips included Nova Scotia, Alberta, Montreal Expo, numerous trips to Ontario to visit relatives and further destinations such as Hawaii, England, Scotland and Wales. She was also able to visit frequently with family in Togo, Wadena and Regina. Isobel was such a kind and caring person, always ready to help out, always thinking of others before herself and helping out whenever there was a serious family illness. She was chauffeur to many of the family and friends throughout the years. Reading was a passion and was seldom without a book on the go. Isobel had many health problems but never complained. For many years she has lived alone in her own home. Isobel was ”fiercely independent” and rarely asked or allowing anyone to help. Wayne and Terry Daniels have been very helpful and caring to her. Over the last couple years, as she became less mobile, her niece Loretta helped out with shopping and driving her to various appointments and events. Isobel was predeceased by parents, her father, Alfred and her mother Sarah (Tanner); sisters, Dot (Richard McLean), Rose Freeman, Emma (Jim) Woolley and Joyce (Gordon) Gardner; brothers, Frank, John, Philip (Mary), Glen, Tom and George; nieces, Dawna and Sarah and nephews Gerald and Ralph as well as her beloved cousin and friend Norma Sawchyn Daniels (nee Hales). She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her older sister Alice Airriess of Calgary, AB, sister-in-laws, Jean Airriess of Wadena, SK and Rose Airriess Yorkton and brother-in-law Barney (Nancy) Freeman of Kingston, ON as well as numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and a number of very special cousins. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 22 at 1:30 p.m. from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre. Interment to be held at a later date in the Togo Cemetery. BODNAR - John Bodnar beloved husband of Sylvia Bodnar of Yorkton, formerly of the Insinger district passed away on January 9, 2016 at the Regina General Hospital. John was born in the Theodore area in 1933 to Henry and Irene (Sawiuk) Bodnar. John was the second eldest of six children. John attended Lysenko and Aysqarth Schools and at an early age began working with the threshing machines, harvesting crops in the area. At the age of 15, he began working for the CP Railway travelling across Western Canada. He then went to work with Floyd Barber Construction based out of Regina. On June 12, 1958, John married his soul mate Sylvia Serniak. That same year the couple bought land north east of Insinger, along the Whitesand River. Together they farmed for the next 48 years. John was a member of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Sheho and Yorkton. He enjoyed going to auction sales and checking the crops with his “Honda Tri Moto”! John was very proud of his family, Corinne and son-in-law Richard & Sheila and son-in-law Ed. His grandchildren were his pride and joy. He attended Chantel & Derek’s wedding where he proudly danced with his granddaughter – a moment of pure joy. Danielle, Gidi’s little blondie and her little girl Octavia gave Gidi great pleasure and peace even with all his pain. Turner shared his passion of dance and sense of humour. Both could have a great visit just sitting side by side talking about life and Jasmine who he silently watched over capturing his heart with her shy smile and big brown eyes. John is survived by his wife Sylvia of 57 years and daughters; Corinne and husband Richard Norman of Humbolt; Sheila and her husband Ed Ferrier of Lintlaw. Grandchildren; Chantel and husband Derek McDougall of Saskatoon, Danielle Norman and daughter Octavia Coleman of Vancouver, Turner Norman of Toronto and Jasmine Ferrier of Lintlaw. Sister Mary (Art) Siez, sister-in-law, Valerie Bodnar and many nephews, nieces and cousins. John was predeceased by his infant daughter Vivian Marie, father, Harry, mother, Irene, twin brothers Matt and Alex, sister Katie and brother Peter. Prayer Services were held on Thursday, January 14, 2016 at the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre. Funeral Services were held on Friday, January 15, 2016 from the Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Yorkton with Very Rev. Father Mel Slashinsky officiating. The cantor was Yvonne Panchuk assisted by members of the parish choir. The cross bearer was Turner Norman. Ivan Cheropita and Bill Bodnarek served as the banner bearers. Interment followed in the Garden of Gethsemane at Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Richard Norman, Ed Ferrier, Derek McDougall, Allen Downes, Jack Prychak and Jason Bodnar serving as the casket bearers. A memorial dinner followed at the Ukrainian Orthodox Auditorium. Tributes and words of appreciation were given by Chantel, Derek, Danielle, Ed and Sylvia. Arrangements were entrusted to: PELLETIER - Frederick Pelletier passed away at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon on Sunday, January 10, 2016 with his loving family at his side. Frederick “Engie” Pelletier was born on November 25, 1932, the son of Nazaire Pelletier and Mary Madeline (nee St. Pierre) at Crooked Lake, SK. His sister Edna wanted a little sister when her mother was ready to deliver, Edna was ready to name the baby Angie, but it was a boy so she nick-named him Engie. That’s how he got his nick-name. Early in life he began working for various employers in Canada and the United States as an insulator. A career he enjoyed for 37 years. On August 13, 1983 he was united in marriage to his love and friend Priscilla Sayer. They were together for 38 years. Together they adopted two children Laurie and Robin. His favourite pastimes were being outdoors, camping, horse races and spending time with his family. He was anxiously awaiting the birth of their first great-grandchild. Engie and family had moved to Prince Albert, SK where he eventually retired. Frederick was predeceased by his parents, Nazaire & Mary Pelletier, his brothers, Frank Pelletier, Joe Pelletier, Alexander Pelletier, Marcel Pelletier, William Pelletier, Ernest Pelletier, Francis Pelletier; his sisters, Edna Krawchuk, Adele Beston, Irene Forshchen, Evelyn Bellegarde. He leaves to cherish many fond memories, his wife Priscilla, his children; Laurie & Bernard, Robin & Jasmin, his step-children; Myles Jr. & Wanda, Elizabeth & Michael, Brenda & Burton, Frederick & April and 14 grandchildren, his brothers; Walter (Jean) Pelletier, Sylvester Peltier and sister Mabel St. Pierre along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends. The Wake was held on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 with Prayers being held on Thursday, January 14 and the Funeral service was held Friday, January 15 all from the Yorkton Friendship Centre, with Pastor Rick Flamont officiating and Darlene Langan giving the Eulogy. Honourary Pall bearers were “everyone who loved and shared a role in his life” and the Active Pall bearers were Katilyn Pelletier, Mervin Pelletier, Dennis Langan, Barry Pelletier, Dwayne Pelletier and Wyman Pelletier. The interment Service was held in the Yorkton City Cemetery, Yorkton, SK. Memorials in memory of Frederick Pelletier may be made to a Charity of Choice as gifts of remembrance. Condolences can be sent to the family at www.baileysfuneralhome.com. ANDREWS - Donald Warren Andrews. January 7, 1930 - December 27, 2015. It is with overwhelming sadness that we say goodbye to our father, grandfather and great-grandfather Don Andrews of Edmonton, AB, who passed away peacefully on December 27, 2015 at the age of 85 years. Don is survived by his sister Enid Tucker, his children Barb Pontin, Doug Andrews (Michele), Randy Andrews (Catherine), Rob Crisfield (Corynn), Sherri Andrews (Jim) and Liane Schild, as well as his grand- children Craig (Tanya), Ben (Sara), Matthias, Anthony (Alyssa), Tyler, Joshua, Kaylee, Sarah (Justin) and Ashleigh and his great- grandchildren Garrett, Tyanna, Alex and Damien. He was predeceased by his parents Philip Andrews and Elizabeth Andrews (Schaan) and brothers Norman and Glen. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held later this month. Sincere thanks to the amazing staff on Unit 2 North at the Good Samaritan Dr. Gerald Zetter Care Centre for the unending kindness, support and care shown to Don during his time there. BODNAR - John Bodnar beloved husband of Sylvia Bodnar of Yorkton, formerly of the Insinger district passed away on January 9, 2016 at the Regina General Hospital. John was born in the Theodore area in 1933 to Henry and Irene (Sawiuk) Bodnar. John was the second eldest of six children. John attended Lysenko and Aysqarth Schools and at an early age began working with the threshing machines, harvesting crops in the area. At the age of 15, he began working for the CP Railway travelling across Western Canada. He then went to work with Floyd Barber Construction based out of Regina. On June 12, 1958, John married his soul mate Sylvia Serniak. That same year the couple bought land north east of Insinger, along the Whitesand River. Together they farmed for the next 48 years. John was a member of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Sheho and Yorkton. He enjoyed going to auction sales and checking the

crops with his “Honda Tri Moto”! John was very proud of his family, Corinne and son-in-law Richard & Sheila and son-in-law Ed. His grandchildren were his pride and joy. He attended Chantel & Derek’s wedding where he proudly danced with his granddaughter – a moment of pure joy. Danielle, Gidi’s little blondie and her little girl Octavia gave Gidi great pleasure and peace even with all his pain. Turner shared his passion of dance and sense of humour. Both could have a great visit just sitting side by side talking about life and Jasmine who he silently watched over capturing his heart with her shy smile and big brown eyes. John is survived by his wife Sylvia of 57 years and daughters; Corinne and husband Richard Norman of Humbolt; Sheila and her husband Ed Ferrier of Lintlaw. Grandchildren; Chantel and husband Derek McDougall of Saskatoon, Danielle Norman and daughter Octavia Coleman of Vancouver, Turner Norman of Toronto and Jasmine Ferrier of Lintlaw. John was predeceased by his infant daughter Vivian Marie, father, Harry, mother, Irene, twin brothers Matt and Alex, sister Katie and brother Peter. Prayer Services were held on Thursday, January 14, 2016 at the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre. Funeral Services were held on Friday, January 15, 2016 from the Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Yorkton with Very Rev. Father Mel Slashinsky officiating. The cantor was Yvonne Panchuk assisted by members of the parish choir. The cross bearer was Turner Norman. Ivan Cheropita and Bill Bodnarek served as the banner bearers. Interment followed in the Garden of Gethsemane at Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Richard Norman, Ed Ferrier, Derek McDougall, Allen Downes, Jack Prychak and Jason Bodnar serving as the casket bearers. A memorial dinner followed at the Ukrainian Orthodox Auditorium. Tributes and words of appreciation were given by Chantel, Derek, Danielle, Ed and Sylvia. PELLETIER - Frederick Pelletier passed away at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon on Sunday, January 10, 2016 with his loving family at his side. Frederick “Engie” Pelletier was born on November 25, 1932, the son of Nazaire Pelletier and Mary Madeline (nee St. Pierre) at Crooked Lake, SK. His sister Edna wanted a little sister when her mother was ready to deliver, Edna was ready to name the baby Angie, but it was a boy so she nick-named him Engie. That’s how he got his nick-name. Early in life he began working for various employers in Canada and the United States as an insulator. A career he enjoyed for 37 years. On August 13, 1983 he was united in marriage to his love and friend Priscilla Sayer. They were together for 38 years. Together they adopted two children Laurie and Robin. His favourite pastimes were being outdoors, camping, horse races and spending time with his family.

He was anxiously awaiting the birth of their first great-grandchild. Engie and family had moved to Prince Albert, SK where he eventually retired. Frederick was predeceased by his parents, Nazaire & Mary Pelletier, his brothers, Frank Pelletier, Joe Pelletier, Alexander Pelletier, Marcel Pelletier, William Pelletier, Ernest Pelletier, Francis Pelletier; his sisters, Edna Krawchuk, Adele Beston, Irene Forshchen, Evelyn Bellegarde. He leaves to cherish many fond memories, his wife Priscilla, his children; Laurie & Bernard, Robin & Jasmin, his step-children; Myles Jr. & Wanda, Elizabeth & Michael, Brenda & Burton, Frederick & April and 14 grandchildren, his brothers; Walter (Jean) Pelletier, Sylvester Peltier and sister Mabel St. Pierre along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends. The Wake was held on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 with Prayers being held on Thursday, January 14 and the Funeral service was held Friday, January 15 all from the Yorkton Friendship Centre, with Pastor Rick Flamont officiating and Darlene Langan giving the Eulogy. Honourary Pall bearers were “everyone who loved and shared a role in his life” and the Active Pall bearers were Katilyn Pelletier, Mervin Pelletier, Dennis Langan, Barry Pelletier, Dwayne Pelletier and Wyman Pelletier. ANDREWS - Donald Warren Andrews. January 7, 1930 - December 27, 2015. It is with overwhelming sadness that we say goodbye to our father, grandfather and great-grandfather Don Andrews of Edmonton, AB, who passed away peacefully on December 27, 2015 at the age of 85 years. STRICKER - Janeth Stricker, known to most as Jenny, was born on February 24, 1937 at Rhein, SK; a daughter of Pete and Katherine (nee Rutz). She was raised on the family farm and received her education at a country school. On April 15, 1955 she was united in marriage to Arnold Stricker. The couple farmed and raised their family in the Rhein district. In 1975 they moved to Regina, where Arnold and Jenny operated a confectionary and meat market, but also continued to commute to Rhein to farm. In April of 1986 the couple purchased a similar business in Regina Beach. Unfortunately, Arnold passed away on August 2 of that year. After his death, Jenny continued to operate the Regina Beach Store for a couple of more years before she retired. For the past number of years she had been helping her daughter Karen in her business. In failing health for some time, Jenny passed away peacefully with family at her side

on Friday, January 8, 2016. She was 78 years of age. Besides her husband Arnold, Jenny was predeceased by a son Brian in infancy and by all her sisters and brothers. She leaves to mourn her passing her two daughters and a son: Karen (Bill) Parker of Regina; Cary (Rosalyn) Stricker of Leader, SK and Debbie (Len Luman) Taylor of Redcliff, AB; eleven grand- children: Elena, Mack (Kim) Kale, Haley, Jeffrey, Jared, Janessa, Cora, Timothy, Mathew and Jennifer (Tim); nine great-grandchildren: Charlie, Isaiah, Micah, Justus, Kashus, Eli, Malachi, Myles and Gabriel. A sister- in-law, Jeanette Kurtz of Rhein and numerous nieces, nephews and her many other relatives and friends. The funeral service was held on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 from Christ Lutheran Church in Rhein with Rev. Karen Stepko officiating. Organist, Vange Shipowick led the congregation in the singing of the hymns ‘Jesus Loves Me’, ‘Abide With Me’ and ‘Softly and Tenderly Jesus is Calling’. Kale Parker gave the eulogy. Honourary bearers were Jeffrey Stricker, Garry Brown, Wayne Miller, Tim Wasyliw, Grant Stricker & Jack Kurtz. The interment took place in the Christ Lutheran Parish Cemetery with Timothy & Mathew Taylor, MacKenzie & Kale Parker, Jared Stricker and Isaiah Lowe serving as the casket bearers. GILBERT-ROLFE - Karl Gilbert- Rolfe passed away suddenly on December 21, 2015 at the age of 52, while on an extended vacation in Keremeos, BC. Predeceased by his mother Gloria Anne Purnell in 2014, Karl’s surviving beloved family members are his long-time spouse Shelley Henderson and loving daughter Marley Henderson (aka Bob) [Taylor Schenher]. He will also be remembered forever by his nephew, Harrison Whelen and his nieces Jessie Amberson-Whelen (aka High Pockets) and Emily Whelen (aka Buttercup). His in-laws that also loved him immensely are Wendy and Sandy Whelen and Tracey (T-Bird) and Michael Fitzgerald (Fitz). Born in England and raised Canadian, Karl was an amazing, passionate, fun, caring and loyal husband, father and friend. All who knew him will remember his infectious laugh, his humour and patience and his love of the Calgary Flames. After spending time in the

hospitality industry in BC, most of Karl’s career was spent working for the Yorkton Regional High School where he was dearly loved and respected. The students admired Karl for his understanding, support and non-judgmental advice. Most recently he and Shelley spent time in BC where they enjoyed the hot summer, the pool, fishing and new friends and neighbours. While only in BC for a short time, Karl made many friends and he and his red truck (aka Ruby) were well known around town. Karl was an adven- ture seeker and pursued fun wherever he went. He jumped out of a plane some 36 times and was looking forward to many travel adventures with Shelley. To relax, Karl enjoyed his legendary rock music, fishing sessions and his fave Internet game, “Pot Farm” where he was number one in the world for a while. Karl was a mentor to many and the best friend anyone could have. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 23, 2016 (2:00 - 4:00 pm) in the lower hall at the Royal Canadian Legion #77 located at 380 Broadway Street West in Yorkton. Donations will be grate- fully received in Karl’s memory toward building the new community club- house at Yorkton Regional High School. DURDIN - It is with heartbreaking sadness that we said good-bye to Francis “Hutch” Durdin on January 13, 2016 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre, Yorkton, SK. His wife and four children were so blessed and privileged to be with him as he started his new journey. He was born in Ft. Lauderdale, FLA on October 2, 1934 and came to Yorkton, SK with his family 44 years ago from Willcox, AZ. Hutch lived a full life. He was a retired United States Marine who fought in the Korean War and later held occupations as an ambulance driver, police officer, traffic board officer, welder, Ottenbreit Sanitation employee and several positions at Yorkton Union Hospital. His love of sports started as a young child playing baseball for his hometown team in Ft. Lauderdale and later he followed many other sports with curling and soccer being his favourites. Reading, traveling and visiting with family were Hutch’s favourite pastimes. He will be greatly

missed, but we, the family, are extremely blessed to have had him in our lives. He is survived by his wife of 50 years “Lee” who he met and married in Ft. Lauderdale, FLA; his children, Ted (Holly), Darlene, Kim (Kevin) and Henry (Sheila); grandchildren, Paige (Chris), Megan, Lucas, Gage, Dane, Phoenix, Rogue; great-grandson, Mason and nephew, “Doc” and his family in the USA. He was predeceased by parents, brothers and sisters in Florida. Hutch demonstrated much strength and courage as he fought his battle with cancer and many times over the past few months expressed to his family his appreciation of the care he was receiving. Hutch’s family wish to say “Thank You” to staff on First East, Second South and other disciplines who provided care to him at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. Walter Farquharson for his wonderful tribute to Don when giv- ing his reflection and eulogy.
