She met Lorne while he was working in Didsbury, they married and Saskatchewan became home. Quietly and peacefully a kind and gentle heart stopped and life on earth ended April 7, 2016. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband and best friend, Lorne, in 1991. Also predeceased by parents, Bernice and David Sinclair; siblings, Herb, Maisie, Majorie, Jim, Edith, Wilfred, Margaret, Irene and Vera; brothers-in law, Leonard Devins, Charlie Burkhart, Ken Walter, Verdie Umbach, John English, Stan Keene; sisters-in- law, Edith Keene and Jean Sinclair; son-in-law, Jerry Schmidt. She is survived by daughters, Brenda; Lynda (Glen) Hantelman; Sharon (Harold) Esslinger; grand- sons, Chad (Brigitte) Schmidt and Brad (Jamie) Schmidt; great- grandchildren, Brody Schmidt, Katie Schmidt and Dalton Schmidt; Harold’s family, Mike (Marie) Esslinger, Mason & Sophie; Kim (Rob) Ivezich, Lauren, Renae & Kolton; Dave (Laura) Esslinger, Freedom & Jake as well as numerous nieces, nephews and families. Dorothy devoted her life to being a good home- maker, wife and mother; things of utmost importance to her and she did a fine job. She was a quiet and private person whose family was all important. She was happy with the simple things in life like a drive in the country, going for an ice cream cone or wherever the vehicle took them; their trips to Alberta to visit her family. When that was no longer possible she longed for the days when she and Lorne were together, treasuring the many memories of everything they did together including trucking, farming, antique restoration, flying and trips in the motorhome or just conversation over a cup of coffee. She was also fortunate in later years to travel with three of her sisters (The Golden Girls) to Alaska and Scotland. We know there were lots of stories and laughs on those trips as there always was when the siblings and spouses got together. We can only imagine the reunion now. Living in Bredenbury for most of her married years, she spent many years singing in the Bredenbury United Church choir and missed the church, choir and camaraderie when she moved to Yorkton. Dorothy was kind, very generous and thoughtful of others. She had few wants and always cherished family get-togethers, stories or pictures of her grandsons and great-grandsons. She was always and forever grateful for her own family, dad’s family and her family in Alberta. Being very kind and loving to animals, she adopted many kittens who had lost mothers or needed help to survive, a number of them never leaving her home even once they were well enough to. She even loved her special pets in the nursing home which became great companions for her. She was always concerned about the feelings and heartache of family and friends or children that didn’t have enough to eat or were mistreated. She was always mindful of others but not to the point of not having strong opinions of her own. Even when her life got increasingly more difficult and she lost more and more of her independence she rarely complained and would assure us she was fine, typically making it easier for her family. Always appreciative of every visit and for even the smallest of things we did for her. She had a great sense of humour that really seemed to blossom in her later years and enjoyed many laughs with staff and family. Funeral Services were held on Thursday, April 14, 2016 from the Knox United Church in Bredenbury, SK with Walter Farquharson presiding. The organist, Ruth Datema and members of the Knox United Church Choir led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, “Would You Bless Our Homes and Families” , “Give To Us Laughter” and “How Great Thou Art” . The Choir Selection was “Prayer of St. Francis” . The Interment Service followed in the Bredenbury Town Cemetery with Harold Esslinger, Glen Hantelman, Chad Schmidt, Brad Schmidt, Brody Schmidt and Dave Esslinger serving as the Casket Bearers. Friends so wishing may forward their condolences to the family by visiting www.christiesfuneralhome.com. Funeral arrange-ments were entrusted to Christie’s Funeral Home & Crematorium, Yorkton, Saskatchewan. HUNT - Jenna Marie Hunt of Saskatoon, SK passed away very suddenly at her home on April 6, 2016. Jenna was born on May 24, 1991 in Yorkton, SK, the daughter of Dennis and Rhonda Hunt. She grew up in Yorkton until the family moved to an acreage in the Rokeby area and then to the town of Saltcoats. She attended St. Mary’s School and graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 2009. In 2010, Jenna moved to Saskatoon to live with her brother, Drew. While in Saskatoon she worked at Sobey’s, for the Parks Department of the City of Saskatoon but found her career when she was hired by Ace Plumbing and Heating. She decided to follow in her Dad’s foot- steps and become a plumber. Jenna attended and completed three years of plumbing trade school and was looking forward to her fourth and final year and becoming a Journey person in the trade. In 2011, while working at the plumbing shop, she met the love of her life, Clayton Brule and their family became three with the addition of Copper, their beloved pug in early 2013. Jenna loved her time with Clayton learning to hunt and fish, playing softball and their weeks spent at the lake. She loved anything Clayton loved, as it meant spending time with him. Jenna especially cared for and loved her family and friends. It became very evident that for every birthday, anniversary or gathering, there was one organizer and that person was Jenna. She cherished family events and made sure that nothing started until she arrived. If for some reason she was unable to be there, everyone knew that she would attend via face time. One visit to Jenna and Clayton’s home truly showed how devoted she was to her family. Her walls were covered with pictures, mementos and sayings - all devoted to family. Pictures of Clayton, Copper and their families were always on display, bringing back memories and stories. She was also very excited to be a part of Connor and Lee’s upcoming wedding. Clayton and Jenna were beside themselves with excitement and expectation as they announced to their family the arrival of Baby Brule in November of 2016. Anyone who knew Jenna knew that after some discussion, more often than not, she would get her way. One also knew that if they had Jenna as a friend, they had her as a friend for life. She will be deeply missed by everyone who knew and loved her, but the memory of her laughter and personality will keep her alive. As for her families, a wound has been opened that cannot be closed as they long for a hug from her that can no longer be found. Jenna was predeceased by her grandfather, Victor Hunt and her special great-uncle, Bruno Neumeier. She leaves to celebrate her life, her loving partner, Clayton Brule and their puppy, Copper; her parents, Dennis and Rhonda Hunt; her siblings, Drew (Dawn and Jayden); Connor (Lee) and Sara; Clayton’s parents, Wilfred and Brenda Brule; sister-in-law, Tasha (Eddie); grandparents, Beverly Hunt and Glen and Angela Brown as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. The Funeral Service was held on Saturday, April 16, 2016 from the Saltcoats Community Hall, Saltcoats, SK with Kathy Novak serving as the Funeral Celebrant. Words of tribute and eulogy were shared by Jenna’s siblings, Drew, Connor and Sara Hunt. A letter to Jenna from her Mom and Dad was read by Walter Farquharson and a letter to Jenna from the Brule and Duke families was ready by Dennis Brule. Special Music included friends from the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite who sang, “Amazing Grace” and taped music selections, “If I Die Young” by The Band Perry, “When the Children Cry” by White Lion and the recessional music, “Lean on Me” by Bill Withers. The Interment Service followed in the Saltcoats Town Cemetery with Jerrid Doll, Matt Fraser, Mitch Datema, Craig Gettle, Riley Smith and Wade Ritchie serving as the casket bearers. Friends so wishing may make donations in Jenna’s memory to Epilepsy Canada (www.epilepsy.ca). Friends so wishing may forward their condolences to the family by visiting www.christiesfuneralhome.com. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Christie’s Funeral Home & Crematorium, Yorkton, Saskatchewan. HAYES - Mr. Bill Hayes, resident of Theodore, passed away peacefully and comfortably in the Yorkton Hospital on the morning of April 10, 2016, his wife of 52 years at his side. William Joseph Hayes was born on February 22, 1935 in the Conception Bay, Newfound- land community of Marysvale. He was the seventh child and first son of James and Alice Hayes, née Ghaney. He is survived by only two sisters: Elizabeth (Betty) Ender of Onalaska, WI and Marie McCoy of Denver, CO. In birth order, his deceased sisters are Margaret, Anne, Alice, Helen, Bride and Kathleen. When Bill was barely fourteen years, his mother passed away after a battle with cancer. Soon after the loss of his mother, Bill went to live with his Uncle in Toronto, where he worked as a snow remover until moving west to British Columbia, finding work in the Vancouver Island coastal community of Tahsis. He spent a couple years working as a longshoreman, where the vast majority of his loading duties would have been wood products from the local Tahsis Lumber Company sawmill. In 1961 Bill moved to a boarding house on Fraser Street in Vancouver, BC, where he worked as a stripper, at which readers will obviously first recall the paper box manufacturing job of using an air gun to strip debris off the edges of paper cartons. The name of his company was Belkin Paper Box Co. In 1963 he met Elsie Rohatynsky of Yorkton, SK, who was a coworker at Belkin. They became acquainted while car pooling together over a couple of months, after which they began to date. In April 1964 they were married in Yorkton, SK, having become engaged the Christmas before. His years of stripping behind him, in 1965 Bill began his long employment with Lawson Graphics. The newlyweds lived in Richmond, BC for four years before moving to nearby Surrey to live in the home that Elsie’s father, Joseph Rohatynsky, built for them. It was only a year later they upgraded to become owners of a 6 unit apartment on 138th Street, also in Surrey, where they occupied one unit and rented out the other five. In June 1972 their first child, Dennis William Hayes was born. In 1976 Bill returned to his Newfoundland home for the first and only time, where he introduced his young family to his father and his local family. Bill’s father would remain at the family home until his death in 1980. As they planned for a larger family, Bill and Elsie sold their apartment in 1978, moving into a larger home in a new development closer to the district of Guildford. Two years later in January 1980, Kimberley Anne Hayes was born. While in this 141 A Street cul-de-sac home, Bill and Elsie raised their family through grade school and post secondary education. In 1997, Bill retired from his job after 32 years at Lawson Packaging Pacific when the company shut its doors. In 2004 as empty nesters, Bill and Elsie moved closer to Dennis and his new family in Alberta. After a brief return to Chilliwack, BC, Bill found the small town feel he was desiring in 2006 in Theodore, SK, a small bedroom community of Yorkton. Not only did this enable a preferred pace of life, it was closer to family, including Alexander and Bernice Mandzuk, Bill’s sister-in-law and her husband. He would relish his role as a grandfather of three: Daphne (2001), Jocelyn (2003) and Maxine (2005). Bill remained in good health until May 2015, during a visit to Kelowna, BC. He became acutely ill and required emergency surgery for a perforation and infection of his colon. His recovery was progressing well until a major setback in October, when he suffered a stroke. It was after this event that his body and spirits began to deteriorate more rapidly and after a debilitating brain infection in March 2016, his body finally succumbed. Prayer services were held on Thursday evening April 14, 2016 from St. Gerard’s Roman Catholic Church, Yorkton. Fr. Francis Hengen officiated, the Lector was Daphne Hayes & son Dennis gave a tribute. The pianist, Lorraine Lysak led members of St. Gerard’s Parish Choir and the congregation in the singing of the hymns ‘Glory & Praise to Our God’ , Psalm 116 and ‘How Great Thou Art’ . The Funeral Mass was celebrated on Friday morning, April 15, 2016 from St. Gerard’s Church with Fr. Hengen as Celebrant. The cross bearer was Jocelyn Hayes, the Lectors were Maxine Hayes and Kim Hayes and the Gift-bearers were Jocelyn and Maxine Hayes. Pianist, Chris Fisher led the parish Choir in the singing of the hymns ‘Amazing Grace’ , Psalm 40, ‘I Know That My Redeemer Lives’ , ‘The Lord is My Hope’ , ‘Song of the Angels’ and ‘Sing A New Song’ . The interment took place in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Dennis Hayes, Matt Greig, Kim Mandzuk, Dave Rohatynsky, Gene Denischuk and William Oystryk serving as the casket bearers. Condolences can be left at baileysfuneralhome.com Memorials were to St. Gerard’s Building Fund. STEVENSON - David Gordon, born May 3, 1947 in Yorkton, SK, beloved husband of Valerie Anne Stevenson (nee Byman), passed away peacefully with his family by his side February 11, 2016 at the age of 68 years. He is survived by his loving wife Val, daughter Carolynne (Jesse), Calgary, AB, sons David (Stephanie), Williams Lake, BC, Jared (Samantha), Castlegar, BC and by his wonderful, cherished and loved grandchildren, Maddison Stevenson, Yorkton, SK; Reginald and Sidney Stevenson, Castlegar, BC. David was prede- ceased by his mother, Freda Patience Stevenson (nee Noble), his father Samuel Watson Stevenson and his brother Graham Lawrence Stevenson. David “Red” was born and spent his early years in Yorkton SK, where he developed his passion for playing and later coaching ball, as well as playing cards. He moved on as a teenager to Fife Lake, SK and on the death of his father when David was just 16, he took on the responsibility of helping his mother to manage the Fife Lake Hotel. From there he moved on to Winnipeg, MB where while employed with the T. Eaton Company, he met and married the woman who he always told “I love you with all my heart” , right to the very end. Many wonderful years were spent in Winnipeg and at the cottage in Lake Forest Estates, Gimli, MB. It was during these years that an accident left him with multiple surgeries and resulted in his requiring orthopedic boots and canes to walk. Then the family moved back to Yorkton, SK, enjoying small town life, where he particularly enjoyed his Crib game at the Legion and being that booming voice cheering on his sons hockey team. But, when his cardiac problems arose, he moved on to Calgary, AB where the health care he needed was more readily available. David lived life to the fullest, he had no regrets. His presence filled a room and his laughter and smile was un-mistakable. He faced many challenging health issues over the years and always remained positive and accepting of the outcomes. His years of pain and suffering are now over. He was a mountain of a man with a kind, gentle and generous heart. He will be remembered and dearly missed by those whose lives he has touched. Always those canes and boots and his passion for playing cards, especially crib. He was so very proud of all his children’s accomplishments and so very proud to have had the opportunity to have lived to see and enjoy his beautiful grandchildren. He always said what a lucky man he was to have his family. As per David’s wishes immediate cremation has taken place with a private family gathering. As his grandson Reg said, “Grandpa has grown his Angel Wings” . A small graveside gathering will occur Saturday, April 23, 11:00 am, in Yorkton SK, Yorkton Cemetery, Legion Plot, where some of David’s ashes will be laid to rest with his father, as per David’s wishes. All those who wish to attend are welcome. Dave, dad, grandpa, we will see you on the other side and until then “may God hold you in the palm of his hand” . Forever loved, forever missed. He moved on as a teenager to Fife Lake, SK and on the death of his father when David was just

16, he took on the responsibility of helping his mother to manage the Fife Lake Hotel. From there he moved on to Winnipeg, MB where while employed with the T. Eaton Company, he met and married the woman who he always told “I love you with all my heart”, right to the very end. As his grandson Reg said, “Grandpa has grown his Angel Wings”. A small graveside gathering will occur Saturday, April 23, 11:00 am, in Yorkton SK, Yorkton Cemetery, Legion Plot, where some of David’s ashes will be laid to rest with his father, as per David’s wishes. All those who wish to attend are welcome. Dave, dad, grandpa, we will see you on the other side and until then “may God hold you in the palm of his hand”. Forever loved, forever missed. Messages of condolence may be forwarded to the family at www.piersons.ca.

PLAN NUMBER 6-3-372

A T T R A C T I V E THREE BEDROOM HOME

This attractive three-bedroom home features a partial second story that includes the second-ary bedrooms, as well as a bonus room that would make an ideal studio or entertainment centre – the perfect setup for a family with teenaged children.

The unfinished base-ment, included with the plans, offers room for a growing family to expand.

Entry is through a covered porch with a veranda to one side. To the right is a den, ide-ally placed for a home office that could double as a spare bedroom. To the left is a display cab-inet. A coat closet and powder room are tucked in behind the U-shaped staircase that leads to the second floor.

The open-plan great-room complex features a lofty sloped ceiling. The great room includes a gas fireplace, as well as windows that overlook a covered patio and the garden beyond. The din-

ing room has access to this patio, making out-door meals a breeze in the summer months.

The kitchen, sepa-rated from the great room by a prep island that contains the double sink, includes a pantry. The L-shaped counter configuration promises efficiency.

The master suite looks out to the back garden and includes an ensuite with a soaker tub, as well as a shower stall. The walk-in closet will offer ample room for clothing and accessories.

Upstairs, adjacent

to the bonus room, the two secondary bedrooms share a three-piece bath and a linen closet.

The laundry room has access to the double garage and includes a cupboard for family gear.

Ceilings rise to nine feet on the main floor, except where otherwise designated.

On the exterior, hori-zontal siding contrasts nicely with the wooden shingles in the gables, as well as with the verti-cal pattern on the garage door. Brick accents on the pilasters that mark the front veranda are echoed on the garage.

This home measures 40 feet wide by 56 feet, eight inches deep, for a total of 2,125 square feet.

Plans for design 6-3-372 are available for $835 (set of 5), $900(set of 8) and $952 for a super set of 10. Also add $35.00 for Priority charges within B.C. or $60.00 outside of B.C. Please add 12% H.S.T., 13% H.S.T. Or 5% G.S.T (where applicable) to both the plan price and Priority charges.

Our NEW 48TH Edition of the Home Plan Catalogue containing over 300 plans is avail-able for $15.50 (includes taxes, postage and han-dling). Make all cheque and money orders pay-able to “Jenish House Design Ltd.” and mail to:

Time to dump video replaysI never thought I’d

find myself in the cor-ner where I would rather watch a sporting event and despise the notion of checking with the instant replay camera to make sure the correct call was made, but I’ve come full circle on this issue.

As the NHL playoffs began last week, the St. Louis Blues ended up losing game two of their first round series against Chicago, in no small part, because they got royally hooped because of video replay. Late in the third period, they appeared

to score a crucial go ahead goal, but just as the puck was about to be dropped at centre ice, the Blackhawks issued a challenge to see if the puck carrier was off-

side. After an incredible delay, yes, the officials decided the Blues’ player had his skate in the air as the puck crossed the blue line and, by about an inch or so, it was off-side. Therefore, the goal did not count. Moments later, Chicago scores the go ahead goal by crashing the net. St. Louis issues a challenge to see if they can get a goalie interfer-ence ruling and they lose. The goal stands and the Blackhawks go on to vic-tory.

Now, many of you will wonder why I’d be so upset about video replay if the correct call was, eventually, made. You have an excellent point, but the spirit of video replay is to prevent glar-ing human errors from deciding the outcome of games. It’s not meant for coaches to find loopholes to get goals disallowed. I’m wondering why, if we are going to call offside to the millimetre, penal-ties can’t be challenged. We have all watched hockey games where the referees put their whistle in the pocket in the third period to minimize their impact on the outcome. To me, if you are going to say ‘hey, offside is offside and it doesn’t matter how close it is’, then how come we can’t say the same about a cross check, trip, hook, or slash? You may say because those penal-ties require ones judge-ment and are not clear cut black and white. I beg to differ if you look at the rule book. Besides, isn’t goalie interference a judgement call too and that one is allowed to be reviewed? It’s the slip-pery slope that has been started and I don’t think you can stop. My solution to all of this would be to ban the coach challen-ges altogether (in every sport, not just hockey) and allow an independ-ent eye in the sky to review all scoring plays and any other play that he notices at live speed (the same as an official on the playing surface). The offside against St. Louis was a last ditch effort by the Hawks. It should be noted that as the Blues crossed the line, nobody stopped try-ing and the goal that was scored was not due to a blatant rule break.

I was hoping for two

challenges on the same play of the Boston Red Sox-Toronto Blue Jays game on Saturday. The Red Sox were turning a double play and Dustin Pedroia did not touch second base at all, mean-ing the Blue Jay runner should be safe (by the let-ter of the law, even though he was out by a mile). The Jays’ runner slid aggres-sively into second, dis-rupting Pedroia’s throw, and we’ve seen these types of actions chal-lenged and the double play awarded in the past. What would have hap-pened if Toronto chal-lenged Pedroia being off the bag and Boston challenged the slide as being illegal? They both could have won. What happens? The bottom line is that challenges slow down the game (in every sport) a great deal and they are, seldom, a result of an egregious miss by the official; but rather a self serving play to exploit the fine print of the rules.

When it comes to mak-ing sports more enter-taining and instituting change, coaches should never be involved. Their job is not to make it more fun, but rather to win. In hockey, coaches are notorious for elim-inating scoring chances and the rule changes that get introduced are never designed to open the game up. Everyone has an agenda and in the NHL, this is a problem because you, increas-ingly, have a number of former players assuming roles in management and they, too, relate much better to competition than they do to making the game more enjoyable for the viewer. I think this is why the NFL gets it right more often than not when they decide to make rule changes. The majority of the people in charge are suit and tie guys who never played the game at a high level (John Elway aside) and understand business.

Speaking of business, I wonder if Rogers will continue their mega deal with the NHL next year and continue to keep Ron MacLean on the sidelines. It’s clear their sagging ratings would get a boost from MacLean returning to a prominent host position on Hockey Night In Canada. It’s also clear they are bleed-ing money as they are resorting to broadcast in the American feeds on a number of the first round playoff series. Can’t say I feel sorry for them.

Nice person mentions this week to Shayne Tait, Nicole Campbell, Kristy Helbren, Steve Sutton, and Kevin Lee.
