YORK LIONS PRIMARY LOGO
The York Lions primary logo represents the strength and courage of the YU community. Distinct, powerful and recognizable, it is a symbol designed to ignite excitement in students, athletes, faculty, staff, alumni and the local community.
The York Lions primary logo consists of a red lion head and a black “YU”.
All versions of the York Lions logo outlined in these standards require approval by the Manager, Marketing, Communications & Corporate Partnerships, Athletics & Recreation prior to use.
All versions of the York Lions logo are available for download, please refer to Approvals and Download Links on page 22 for more information.

CORRECT LOGO USAGE
Primary logo in brand environments
The following logo applications demonstrate the full range of approved usage within the York Lions brand language.
Print and web versions of the York Lions primary logo seen here, and primary contained logos as seen below, are available for download.
Please refer to Approvals and Download Links on page 22 for more information.
Primary contained logo in non-brand environments
A contained version of the York Lions primary logo is available for use on intricate colourful, photographic and/or textured backgrounds. Some exceptions of placing the primary or secondary logo on a background may apply but must be reviewed and approved by the Manager, Marketing, Communications & Corporate Partnerships, Athletics & Recreation. The circular container must not be altered in any way.

The above version is not for use in AODA compliant print and online applications. See page 23 for information about AODA.

INCORRECT LOGO USAGE
The following alterations are not permitted when working with the York Lions primary logo, primary contained logos or extended logo family. See pages 5 and 6 for correct logo usage.
DO NOT place the uncontained logo on photographic backgrounds. Some exceptions of placing the primary or secondary logo on a background may apply but must be reviewed and approved by the Manager, Marketing, Communications & Corporate Partnerships, Athletics & Recreation.
DO NOT flip the lion head.
DO NOT distort or rotate the logo.DO NOT change the size relationship, position or colour of any elements of the logo.
DO NOT change the opacity of any of the logo’s colours. Never change the font.

DO NOT change the size of the circle containing the logo. Never modify the weight of the black stroke around the circle (it must scale proportionally with the logo).

LIONS LOGO & SPORT LOCKUP
The following are examples of how to treat the York Lions primary logo with an Athletics, Club, Recreation or Program name. The York Lions primary logo & Sport Lockupis offered as a template that is available for download. Please refer to Approvals and Download Links on page 22 for more information. The relationship between the York Lions primary logo and the Athletics, Club, Recreation or Program name must not be altered in any way. The names must always be centre aligned with the “YU” and they must be set 55% smaller than the “YU”. Names must never be set bigger than the “YU”. Names are set in the font Neutraface 2 Display Titling which is available for purchase. Contact your purchasing representative or visit https://houseind.com/hi/neutraface_no2

SAFETY AREA
A safety area equal to the width of the lion’s ear has been established to allow sufficient clear space between theYork Lions primary logo and other graphicelements such as typography, photos,imagery, etc.
This safety area applies to all versionsof the York Lions primary logo, primarycontained logo and extended logo family.The safety area is applied to the outside of the circle of the primary contained logo.
The safety area (defined by the width of the lion’s ear) scales proportionallywith the size of the York Lions logo (all versions).

TEAM APPLICATIONS
The approved base colours for York Lions athletic uniforms is white (light) and York U primary red, Pantone 186 (dark). This is the distinction for home and away games. Regardless of the base colour, York U primary red, Pantone 186 and white must always be the predominant colours for all uniforms and apparel. See page 11 for more information regarding colour. The York Lions fonts used on all uniforms and athletic apparel is Neutraface and Adidas font #576. See page 8 for more information about Neutraface type setting. All Athletics & Recreation apparel orders must be placed through the Equipment Services Coordinator, Athletics & Recreation. Approval to use any version of the York Lions logo must be provided by the Manager, Marketing, Communications & Corporate Partnerships, Athletics & Recreation prior to use.

Varsity athletics or sport club teams will be allowed only one black apparel garment per season. If an item is not available in red or white, then black may be an option.

In 2006, a policy on brand stewardship was created in reference to the authority required to use York U’s brand properties, as well as associated procedures and guidelines. The policy is intended to protect and uphold the image of the University by regulating the use of brand properties. Marketing & Creative Services have been mandated to execute this policy.
