2012-2013 FeaturesR.U.S.H.(Roadmap toUniversity Success withHonours) offers an enrichment program forhigh achieving studentsin 4 areas: MCS, Arts &Humanities, NeuroScience & Business. Students in grades 9-11will follow the Pre-APcurriculum for allsubjects (we are theonly school in the TDSBto offer a full Pre-APProgram) and then takeAdvanced Placementcourses in grades 11and 12.  Last May, YMCIstudents wrote 400 APexams and celebrated10 National APScholars.  Theseaccomplishments onceagain placed Y.M.C.I. asboth, the largest andmost successful publicAP school in Ontario.

HumanitiesThe humanities is the largest area of discipline in the school'ssubject offerings.  The humanities offer great preparation touniversity-bound students seeking admission in professionalfaculties such as Law, Business and Economics in addition toprograms of study in the fields of Psychology, Sociology,Geography, History, Philosophy and Anthropology.

Fine ArtsWe offer a wide range of courses in music, drama, dance and thevisual arts. No auditions are required.  We produce anumber of major shows every year in dance and music and host artexhibitions featuring our visual arts students and their work.  Ourbands bring recognition to York Memorial in competitions and atinternational events.

Mathematics, Computers and Science (MCS)The RUSH program offers unique opportunities in mathematics,computers and sciences for those who demonstrate exceptionalability.  AP students are able to take AP courses alongside Earthand Space Science, Fundamentals of Engineering, Brain Behaviourand Computer Science. These courses are particularly valuable forthose interested in any math, science or computer field.

BusinessThrough the Pre-Advanced Placement and Advanced Placementprograms, our students are provided with a strong foundation inBusiness Studies that prepares them for University level BusinessPrograms.  Courses offered include Accounting, AdvancedPlacement Micro Economics, International Business, Marketing,Advanced Placement Computer Science and ComputerEngineering.

Student Life - Where You Belong

At the annual Welcome Back Assembly, student leaderstake the stage to introduce students to our array of clubs,teams and sports activities.  We offer many clubs includingarts, drama, poetry, library, Raptors Book Club, robotics,QSA, recycling, music and fitness. You can join the ECOteam, IMPACT, the South Asian, Vietnamese and BlackHistory Club, Power Cheerleading, Math and OutdoorAdventure Clubs.  Our school organizes events such asTerry Fox Day, Community Clean Up, 30-Hour Vow ofSilence, Various Humanitarian Relief initiatives and othercommunity and global awareness and fundraising initiatives.  Students have a variety of sports to participate in or cheerfor.  Some of these sports include basketball, volleyball,badminton, hockey, baseball, rugby, skiing, cricket, soccer,swimming, tennis, football, golf and track and field. Our music programs are also top notch!  We offer a numberof courses from grades 9 to 12 in band, strings, vocals,guitars, keyboarding and music composition.  Students alsouse MAC computers to compose, edit and record theirmusic.   We have over 115 various clubs and teams at YorkMemorial.  There is something for everyone!  

What Sets Us Apart

Our programs yield impressive results.  Our students excel,achieving test scores well above average by the time theyreach post secondary education and as such, many of ourstudents earn entrance scholarships to post secondaryinstitutions.  Last year YMCI had 10 National AP Scholarsand this was the highest among all Public schools inOntario. In addition to these 10 National Scholars we alsohad many other students qualify for a variety of other APScholar Awards. All York Memo students have harddrive space for their files,as well as personal logins and passwords to protect theirinformation.  Students are able to access their personal filesthroughout the school on a daily basis.  The RUSH, Pre-AP and AP programs are all outstandingopportunities for students to enhance their abilities,enrich their academic skills and prepare for the challengesof post secondary studies.  York Memorial leads the way in offering the largest numberof exams and the most successful results of all Pre-AP andAP schools in Ontario.
