“We are a diverse organization working to promote civic,

philanthropic, cultural and educational interests within our

community through the spirit of volunteerism.” Mission Statement of the Yorba Linda Woman’s Club

I am beyond excited to announce that the Yorba Linda Woman’s Club finally

has a Mission Statement! We should consider this Mission Statement our

North Star. It gives a clear direction for our organization. Have we survived

without it for decades? Yes, we certainly have. Now is our chance to thrive

and this will help us plan for the future. It will be the introduction of our 30-

second speech when a prospective member asks for the purpose of our club.

Many thanks and kudos are extended to Chairman, Lynne Yauger and

Committee Members, Pamela Harrell and Carri Knipfer, for your commitment

to researching and creating this lasting expression of who we are, who we

serve, how we serve and what makes us unique.

Speaking of having a clear direction for our organization…congratulations are

in order for the 2018-2019 Elected Officers. The following were elected at the

March General Meeting: Linda Queen-President, Susie Autry-1st VP, Kaycee

Stack-2nd VP, Nikki Ware-3rd VP, Carol McCarty-Recording Secretary, Lucy

Huerta-Corresponding Secretary, Caroline Wahlstrom-Treasurer and Leslie

Sorrells-Financial Secretary. Your Time is Your Gift to Others and we thank you,

in advance, for every minute you will devote to the wellbeing of the general

membership and the ideals of our Mission Statement. With the nomination of

a new Director of Finance before the Nominating Committee, the Installation

Ceremony at the May General Meeting will be especially exciting.

Last, but most certainly not least, is a huge round of applause to 1st VP Lucy

Huerta, her Chairmen and Committee Members for orchestrating an

extremely successful Spring Extravaganza. Hundreds of hours were spent,

prior to the event, making sure that everyone enjoyed the day--from vendors

to shoppers. I can’t even imagine how this could come to fruition without the

club members (and husbands!) who volunteered the day before, during and

after the event. Even though the rain dampened the grounds, everyone’s

spirits were alive. You all refused to let the weather forecast get you down

and your positive attitudes were contagious.

It has been said that we are happiest when we are interacting with others and

that we really do become the company we keep. Because we are a diverse

organization, the view from my vantage point is remarkably inspiring.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

Sweet Serenity Quartermania was so much fun at our March General Meeting. Club participation was awesome. A great big thank you to all club members who participated in the "Kickoff Quartermania" auction as a precursor to our April collection of quarters for the Domestic Violence facilities which will enable them to do their laundry. Normally, it costs them close to $1 per load of clothes they wash and dry in the coin machines. Each container of quarters will allow at least 12 loads per individual. The "Sweet Serenity" project title was named for the "Sweet" M&M candies that were in the containers distributed at the meeting and also for the request of Adult Coloring Books & pens or markers to bring "Serenity" to the Survivors of Human Trafficking. It is so helpfully therapeutic for them to concentrate and be creative with their coloring skills. Please return all quarter containers (hopefully full) and bring any donated Adult Coloring Books and/or pencil & markers to our April 19th General Meeting. As always, your participation is voluntary for this project. Legislation Bill SB1104 was discussed as it is being sponsored by the General Federation of Women's Clubs (GFWC). As a club we asked for signatures on letters which will be sent to our District 29 Senator Josh Newman requesting that he support passing this bill. The bill is important for the education and safety of our children and the peace of mind for their parents. This legislation will require school districts to work with their middle and high schools to identify the most appropriate ways of sharing human trafficking prevention resources with parents and guardians. We collected 52 signatures at our meeting and the letters were promptly mailed the next day as our Public Police State Committee Chairman, Jennifer Nickel, will be testifying at a hearing before the Senate Education Committee on Tuesday, March 21, 2018.

Grand Finale of Twin Sheet Donations -- The Orange County Human Trafficking Task Force has been

ecstatic over the generosity from the YLWC. Thank you to all of those who donated sheets. Twenty-one (21)

twin sheet sets were delivered to the Salvation Army. The Salvation Army assist all foreign-born survivors

of human trafficking who are rescued and helped in Orange County. They are a lead agency in the Orange

County Human Trafficking Task Force along with Wayfinders who assist American born survivors. Each

share resources when the need arises. Cooperation is hallmark in a successful task force.

At national anti-human trafficking conferences all other cities are encouraged to follow the Orange County

model of cooperation. From January to February we gave a total of 37 sheets.

Appreciation Basket to Child Abuse Investigators -- This month the Orange County Human Trafficking

Task Force made the decision to recognize the hard work of National Missing and Exploited Children (NMEC)

Investigators. There are 22 investigators nationwide, including 4 in Tustin. Several Task Force members

formed a committee along with the YLWC to fill baskets with items of personal care to say “Thank You” for

the work they do. Each received mugs with the message “You Were Made to Make a Difference”. They also

got fuzzy socks, Peace and Orange Essential Oils with an array of samples, purse and desk diffusers, Kleenex

tissue holders, Wonder Woman reusable snack bags and snacks, Panera gift cards (donated by the Pat Nixon

Women’s Federation) and Purpose Jewelry (jewelry made by Survivors of Human Trafficking). The baskets

were quite festive! It is fitting that this was a community effort for the brave women who investigate child

abuse cases for our community.

Food and Personal Care Donations given to Salvation Army’s Anti-Trafficking Program -- Felicia

Huynh is an expert coupon shopper. She gave 6 boxes filled with shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, hair

spray and feminine products. Pasta, snack bars, taco making kits and canned goods were donated too! The

caseworkers who work one-on-one with survivors will take the donated items to them. This act of

compassion is beautiful as it goes directly to poorest of the poor in our community.

The Books for Topaz Project will continue through May, 2018. If you still have a few more books to donate

I will gladly accept them at our April or May General Meetings.

To date, your generosity has been incredible and the Topaz Elementary School Librarian is thrilled with all

the new books she has in the library for her students due to our donations.

Last Thursday when I read to my kindergarten class at Topaz, I was a bit surprised when I opened the book

and on the inside cover was a sticker that read "This book donated by the Yorba Linda Woman's Club”.

It surprised me to see the sticker, but it made me feel good and proud to be a member of our organization.

you are all invited to come to the next sewing workshops in April. No sewing experience needed, we will

find a job you can do to help create the items that we donate. The April sewing workshops will be:
