Par t ic ipat ion: Such and Aggravation by: Nick Schofield
In our busy lives, it can be hard to make time for Lodge events. As a college student, part time employee, and active Scouter, I know the o v e r w h e l m i n g f e e l i n g a l l m y commitments bring. Sometimes, cramming the Lodge into my schedule is something I can t do. But the effort I do make is what counts.Whether you are new to Chippanyonk Lodge or an older member who has lost touch, try to get involved. Even if you come to one event a year, you re at least staying active. Keep an eye on the Lodge calendar, and be on the lookout for opportunities to participate. Open up lines of communication with your district s Vice Chief about volunteer opportunities. He can guide you in the right direction. The Lodge is always happy to accept help from anyone who offers.Your participation makes a difference. Get involved today!

Spring Ordeal Review by: Thomas Hancox
During the weekend of the 14-16 there was an ordeal. To the candidates the ordeal was exactly what it’s name says it was, an ordeal. However at that ordeal they became a part of a brother hood of over 180,000 members. Members who have all toiled for a day, ate scant food for a day and who have made a vow of silence and reflection to better understand themselves and the morals and values held in high esteem at the order of the arrow.
There were more than 50 candidates at the ordeal this weekend who became ordeal. They helped to set up several campsites and cleared out brush from the logging that has been going on at Camp Resolute due to the Japanese beetle infestation. During the weekend I was able to take a part in the brotherhood ceremony where 3 ordeal member transitioned from ordeal into the Brotherhood level in the Order of The Arrow.
We had a good number of members show up to help with the execution of the Ordeal. However the Lodge chief and LEC are planning on putting a new training program for elangomats into the events of the year so that during
ordeals we have professional elangomats that have all of the information and skills to truly help the candidates in their clan to success and the sense of fulfillment at the end of the ordeal.
To finish of the day of toilsome labor we had a feast where elections were held for Lodge Chief, Vice Chief Tri-River, Vice Chief Viking, Vice Chief Liberty, Treasurer and Secretary. The people who were elected to these positions were Moritz Schmid for his second term as lodge chief. Thomas Hancox for Vice chief Tri-River, Lukas Schmid for Vice Chief Liberty and Mike Biancucci for Vice Chief Viking. Tom Merolli was elected as Treasurer and Nick Schofield was elected for Secretary.
We also had a section visit after dinner when most people were heading off to their tents where the lodge chief and the treasurer talked to the section chief about new ideas for the year and where they promoted Conclave. With this success under our belts this year lets all work hard to make the Fall ordeal even better.
Why become an
Elangomat?
Re-Experience the Ordeal! As a candidate you did not fully understand the Ordeal because it was new, and you were hungry and tired. Becoming an Elangomat allows you to re-experience the Ordeal with new
eyes!

OA Involvement in Cub Scouting
Scout events can help garner interest in the Scouting program by exposing them to the fascinating American Indian culture that is an intergral part of our Order. Lodges and chapters are strongly encouraged to host events specifically aimed towards supporting Cub Scout outdoor programs and events. The Order of the Arrow has always been on the frontline of service inScouting. To this end, one important way to help sustain our organization’s growth into the next century is to support our Cub Scout programs and get involved wherever possible.
Understandably, Cub Scouts arefar more likely to join the Boy Scout program if they feel welcomed by older Scouts in their program interactions. One way to assist in this cause is to volunteer as a den chief and spend time working with local Cub Scout packs. Lodges can also take part in promotions of this nature in a variety of support settings. For example, hosting lodge dance team performances at Cub Scouts The National Cub Scout Support Tool Kit with Arrowmen’s Guide isone resource available at www.oabsa.org

Chief’s Corner My brothers in Wimachtendienk, please
join me in congratulating all our new Brothers. This is not only a great opportunity for our Lodge to grow in membership but also to meet new people, and grow together as a community. I am really looking forward to making 2010 a great year for Chippanyonk and I need the help of every member in Chippanyonk to accomplish this. Make sure that you are all supporting your Lodge by paying dues each year. $15 a year is not a lot, but it makes a huge difference in what we can do as a Lodge. Please try and come back and see what unique adventures await you. Try something new like becoming an
Elangomat, Ordeal Master, Ceremonies Member, Activities Coordinator etc. I look forward to seeing you all at Conclave 2010 and hopefully at OA Nites as Camp Resolute. Remember the words of the Ordeal, “membership in our Order is given, notonly for what you have done but for what you are expected to do in the future, for your journey is just beginning.”
