STATE DIRECTOR: The Cabrillo State convention for 2011 was held in January 2012 in Sacramento. Yolo # 26 had nine official delegates and a few visitors from Woodland that attended. This convention reflects on all the work and dedication accomplished by all the Cabrillo Clubs throughout California. State officers are also elected for 2012 and I am delighted to report that Floyd Kemper from our club was elected 2 nd Vice president. Our club won a 1 st place certificate for All-Sorts. Chairs are Mike McCoy and Virginia Correa, another 1 st place certificate was in Publicity and the Historian’s book. The latter was due to the hard work of the Watkins and Kemper ladies who put together a great book of the year’s activities of Yolo County Cabrillo Civic Club. We are fortunate to have publicity newspaper clippings due to the generosity of the Daily Democrat, We also had several clippings from the Davis Enterprise. We are grateful for their support also as our club has several members from Davis. Watch for the next edition of AROUND TOWN and a new series on the Azores and the Azorean immigrants. Annamarie Barros., State Director Get-well cards were sent to Terri White, Katherine Hare, Barbara Baker, Felix De Anda and Mary Ellen Lemos. Sympathy cards were sent to Marilyn & Gary Traynham for the loss of his mother who was 103 years young and also to Elizabeth & Chris Didio. The train trip to Reno organized by the Yolo Cabrillo Club #26 was a fantastic success. A total of 54 persons took advantage of the economical three-day trip with two nights stay at Harrah’s Reno Hotel. Our only disappointment was the lack of a snowstorm along the way, but the weather in Reno was great. Proceeds from this year’s trip will go into the Scholarship Fund. Did you miss this year’s trip? Well, the good news is we are planning to do it again next year. Watch for information coming out in September 2012. Chair: Floyd Kemper, 530-666-4059

At the Cabrillo Civic Clubs annual State Convention this past January in Sacramento, our club was delighted that we were awarded the second place in Americanization

category. This award recognizes the outstanding efforts our members are making in the area of Americanization and I believe we can do even better this year . One of the simplest ways of showing our involvement is flying the American flag, which I am sure most members do, especially on holidays. I am requesting that you take a photo of yourself and your flag when you are flying it then send me a copy of your photo (or send via email) so it can be included with our Americanization report. This simply activity is a very large component of our club’s participation is furthering the American way of life. Do you have a family member currently serving with our military overseas? We are looking for service men or women to receive our Cabrillo Club’s care packages. There is no cost to you or the service member. All we ask of the service member is to be willing to receive and distribute packages within his/hers unit. Please call me at (530) 666-4059 for more details. Please be sure to attend our membership dinner in April. There will be a simple questionnaire for you to complete where you can report on all of your Americanization activities. I look forward to seeing you there. Americanization Chair: [email protected].
