For Erode to stay in the mainstream of overall development, it is imperative to ensure the effective pursuit of youth development programmes which promote personality development and enhance commitment to community service, social justice, self reliance and integrity. Yi embody represents all these elements and much more. Yi is an inclusive organisation that focuses in building itself as the voice of young Indians globally. Yi has engaged its members in generating awareness on significant and relevant matters.

The term - nation building - is usually used to refer to a constructive process of engaging all citizens in building a social consistency, economic prosperity and political stability in an inclusive and democratic way. It is important to note that the priceless resource of any country is its human resource. There is no other resource that matches the human strength, Young people are social actors of change and as the saying goes "Youth are not only the leaders of tomorrow, but also the partners of today.'’

Young Indians, Erode Chapter understood the present condition of the society and planned many events in a manner which showcases the importance of activity. For example, Consumer Rights day, World Entrepreneurship Day, National Volunteering Week, Erode Mini Marathon.

R R SathiyamurthiYi Chair

My Dear Fellow Young Indians!

I usually admire a saying “Actions speak louder than words” which always makes me to do things better than usual, in my personal and professional life. In 2009, when I came to know about the initial steps taken to start a Chapter of Young Indians at Erode, I was very much happy, that our city is also blessed to have a Group of Young minds to work for the betterment of society and Nation.

Yi has provided me both national and international exposure. It helped me to meet many successful young and budding entrepreneurs' both in Chapter and national level who are contributing their best for nation building. At the outset, I must congratulate every member of Yi team of Erode chapter for their wonderful support and guidance given to me. This chairmanship has been a meaningful and eventful one and I will cherish it throughout my life.

Yi has a great responsibility of developing leadership skill of its members, engaging with students at early age, educating the rural populace and engaging in activities for betterment of society. We have been fortunate in being able to undertake varied activities during the past year, organizing relevant events to meet these goals.

Yi is a movement which provides a platform to the youth who actually want to contribute to national building and practice patriotism. A developed nation excels in providing education, taking care of its environment, providing healthcare and constantly creates more job. Yi works on national building in field of education, environment, healthcare, employability, entrepreneurship while constantly involving the youth. It's all about inclusive growth and Yi abides by it. Education, Environment, Youth Affairs, Learning and Membership Engagement have been focus area of the chapter for the year. Apart from this Healthcare, Arts, Sports & Culture verticals actively contributed towards activities for the year. This report contains our activities in this regards.

1st Edition of “Varnam Erode Vizha” was a huge success. We take pride in this event. The Vizha has come a long in terms of magnitude and involvement having started with 5 associations with 20 events. As a result, it provides a great platform for engagement and the spirit of kongu region.

Learning has always been a cornerstone of our chapter. The quality of the learning events has consistently been the pride of our chapter. Our Learning team has been taken this to the next level by having 5 Learning events and 2 experimental visits (Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant & Coimbatore)

I must appreciate & congratulate the work of Students Net as they are the backbone for the Chapter. We organised several Learning sessions and Learning mission to them.

I take these lines particularly to thank few people who were making me to run active althrough the days of chairmanship. Mr R P Selvasundaram, Chairman, CII Erode Zone was very keen in the activities of Yi Erode Chapter and also gave his valuable timings for joining the discussions and giving suggestions. Mr T Karthikeyan, Co chair, Yi Erode Chapter always with a smile to take care of duties assigned to him and assists me well on some of the critical issues. I extend my warm thanks to Past Chair's & all my Executive council members who were along with me for the whole year on bringing some of the very important programmes which makes Yi Erode in lime light.

I feel privileged at this momentum achieved by our chapter this year. Am sure our incoming Chapter Chair Mr Karthikeyan and his team will take our chapter to greater heights in the coming year and wish the incoming team all the very best.

Key Points of his speech:

l Fundamentals of the nation's economy have reminded strong because of its culture ethos. The savings of families is the major strength of the Indian economy.

l If the saving grow, the economy would grow. Studies show that they could grow to $800 billion during 2016 – 26, While the loans banks would give during that period could be $700 billion. So, it is not necessary to rely on foreign investment.

l This type saving habit and family structure cannot be seen in the USA, where o n l y 28 percent of the people live as families. As people there take loans to leas luxurious lives, the government has to look after families.

l The USA has privatized government work, but nationalized families. So its social security obligations rose steeply, which led to the economic crisis there in creased its debt burden abroad.

l But as Indian families are thirty, they look after their needs themselves. Even t h e n , the nation is facing an economic crisis due to the wrong policies.

Rallies taken out to create awareness against corruption and violence marked Gandhi Jayanthi celebrations in Salem and Nalamakkal districts on 2nd October 2013, Wednesday. Over 1000 Students of Gnanamani Educational Institution took out rallies in Namakkal.

Namakkal Sub Collector, Mr Ajay Yadav, flagged off the rally from the Government Higher South School for Boys. The college in association with Young Indians, Erode Chapter and Fifth Pillar organized the programme. The rally was organised as a part of India's effort to raise the level of awareness among people on Anti- Corruption.

The students said that the rally aimed at freeing the country from corruption. Corruption was a major setback for the growth of the country.

Cut throat competition exists in various sectors because of which corruption has increased. The Zero Rupee Notes were distributed by students to publics, bus stations, market places to raise

awareness about bribery and reminding the public of their rights and alternative solutions that are otherwise available.

The Zero Rupee note is a visual aid to mobilise people to say 'no' to corrupt officials and to expose where and when bribes are demanded. Its design is based on the Indian 50 Rupee note. But printed on the note in English and Tamil is the message: “Eliminate Corruption at all levels” and “I promise to neither accept nor give a bribe”. The idea is that when acorrupt official suggests a citizen should pay a bribe to get something done, s/he can hand over the Zero Rupee note. Yi Erode Chapter in association with "EBET Group of Institutions" and The Thirukkural Trust, Karur", organized an Exhibition on Thirukural for the benefit of the students on 06, 07 & 08th November 2013.

Since Thirukkural is an ageless piece of literature, such venture is all the more praiseworthy as it matches the need of the present day society for the sheer values the great work has been espousing since time immemorial. The Thirukkural Trust, Karur, undertook the job to the joy and admiration of Tamil and Kural enthusiasts here recently.

The display panels prominently contained a kural, followed by its Tamil explanation. For trans-language viewers it had an English translation wonderfully picked up from the various ones available. Following that on the panel was a set of bullet points that connect the kural's solution to present day problems pertaining to the individual or the society.

“Thirukkural is the panacea for mankind and there is nothing outside the Kural that is good for the world. Such a universal work needs to be presented in present day necessities and the attempt is one such effort,” he says.

The three-day expo of more than 100 Kural panels at the EBET Group of Institutions in Erode recently provided an opportunity to the audience and the public to have an insight into the Poyyamozhi Pulavar Thiruvalluvar's work from the contemporary angle.

More than 800 Students was impacted.

About YiYi Erode Chapter

Young Indians (Yi) is an integral part of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), a non-government, not-for-profit, industry led and industry managed organisation playing a proactive role in India's development process. Yi was formed in the year 2002 with an objective of creating a platform for young Indians to realise the dream of a developed nation. Yi has around 1500 direct members in 32 chapters, and engages around 8300 students through student nets.Yi membership includes young progressive Indians between the age group of 25 & 40 and comprises entrepreneurs, professionals and achievers from different walks of life. "To become the Voice of Young Indians Globally" being the vision of Yi, it provides a platform for young Indians to participate in and contribute by becoming an integral part of the Indian growth story. Yi's work can be divided primarily into three groups; "Youth Leadership", "Youth Social Entrepreneurship” and “International Engagements”.

Under youth leadership, Yi works effectively for promoting leadership skills for its members through the learning programs and missions to companies of global excellence in India and abroad; the development and engagement of students through its 93 Student Net platforms that has 7000 students; Yi's regional and national summits on themes related to the times and the role of youth and its engagement with the governments at the state and national level gives an opportunity for the members to become effective leaders with a vision into the future. The “Next Practices” vertical of Yi engages the students and members to bring out, “out of the box” and innovative solutions to common problems for the region and the nation at large. Done under the “Blue Ocean Dialogue” brand, the ideas that have come out of these engaged workshops have been captured for further processing.

Under youth social entrepreneurship, Yi engages its members under the board categories of education, environment, healthcare, employability, arts (sports & culture) and rural initiatives contributing positively to its surrounding eco system and the nation. Through its initiatives like Akshara under Education, Yi has impacted more than 15000 students across 57 centers and has successfully managed campaigns like the 'SYightboard Project', providing blackboards to schools across different cities, reaching out to 1070 schools nationally and impacting approximately 2,53,000 children.

Under the "International Engagement", Yi is one of the proud founders of the G20 Young Entrepreneurs' Alliance which is a collective of leading entrepreneurial ly-minded organizations representing the G20 countries who seek to promote youth entrepreneurship as a powerful driver of economic renewal, job creation, innovation and social and is one of the founders of the Commonwealth Asia Alliance of Young Entrepreneurs (CAAYE) which is a network of young entrepreneurs from the Commonwealth Asia region and the organizations that support them. Yi has organized learning missions to many countries around the world to understand and learn from the best practices and cultures of countries around the world. It has also worked with the Planning Commission of India in conducting consultation workshops across its chapters for accumulating a youth perspective to be included in the 12th Five Year Plan and with the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India to facilitate missions of visiting delegations of young entrepreneurs to India from around the world.

With ten years of glorious past and decades ahead that promise nothing short, Yi intends to become a larger movement of young people and promote the attitude of "We Can, We Will".
