It gives me great pleasure to see the Young Indians’ initiatives in a country where the dreams and aspirations

of the younger generation are soaring to newer and greater heights.

India is transitioning from a developing nation to one of the world’s largest and fastest growing economies.

India is capable of meeting the world’s rising expectations from the country, on the back of its growing

prowess and ability to recover faster from situations like the financial crisis. Today world expects India to

play a leadership role and lead the economic growth.

It is really energizing to be on a platform like Yi, comprising of the youth who dream of a great India and

believe in themselves to institute a change in the economical and social scenario of the country. The young

Indians of today in various fields have made us proud. This new generation has stamped its identity in

all walks of life – they are writing books, making films, sculpting, drawing; they are equally at ease with

contributions in medicines, technology and communications; they are excelling in performing arts and

sports, they are traveling to space to bring to mankind hitherto unheard of information and discoveries.

Dreams are important as they inspire and drive people to achieve things. Every young person should have a

dream to be a leader and work towards converting that dream into reality.

In today’s times, the benefit of experience has to be blended with the competitive attitude of the youth. I urge

the Young Indians to play a much more active role in Industry matters and take on leadership roles. CII too

is looking at Young members to contribute active leadership role. This year, some of the Yi members were

invited to the CII’s National Council. I see this trend continuing and I urge the young Indians to contribute

their skills and time in CII activities.

I would like to extend my appreciation to Ms Bhairavi Jani and her teams of office bearers for dedicatedly

fulfilling their responsibilities during the year. I convey my best wishes to Yi for their future initiatives. I

congratulate members of Yi for their commitment and contribution. I am sure Yi with the igniting passion

and strong determination would continue to work towards shaping India.

I once again congratulate the Yi team for their achievements in the year gone by and convey my wishes for

another active and eventful year ahead.

Young Indians who are the younger face of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) are an integral part

of our organization.

The biggest strength of India is its youth population, which makes the country one of the youngest nations

in the world. It is extremely important to engage the youth, the backbone of the nation. The future lies in

the young leaders initiatives. And so, we must nurture the leadership qualities of youth. India’s young talent

has the biggest tool for competitive environment – their demographic advantage. India is the apex country

with respect to percentage of young blood and this is going to be the key reason for India to excel in this

turbulent global environment.

Today India’s younger generation are leading a host of changes in the economy and society, their involvement

into such phenomenal growth can influence the attitudes of youth towards society, which will go a long way

in the overall betterment of the nation. The young leaders today are sending a very loud and clear message

that leadership in the 21st century is no longer about “command and control” but about “inform and

engage”.

The Young Indians should participate more actively in CII and we welcome them to get actively involved in

strengthening the CII way forward. I congratulate Ms Bhairavi Jani, the first women National Chairman

for Young Indians (Yi) for giving us yet another fruitful year under her leadership.

I am pleased to inform that we have carried forward many initiatives successfully joining hands with Yi. I

am glad that Yi is playing an active role in enhancing young entrepreneurs and professionals in addressing

the increasingly complex challenges facing our societies.

It is very heartening to know that through Yi platform, young people are volunteering to work towards

initiatives and activities that may seem small initially but create an impact in the long run. I look forward

to greater such associations in the years to come.

I feel confident that in 2011, Yi will see even greater growth and scale even greater heights.

I wish Yi all the best for their future initiatives.

Dear Friends,

Yi was founded with the belief and thought that India’s young wanted to build a new India, an India

that was secular, inclusive, healthy, educated, meaningfully employed, economically strong, technologically

advanced and morally responsible. In the past eight years of its existence Yi has created a momentum by

providing a platform to thousands of young citizens of India to reach out and impact millions. The journey

of Yi is that of a caravan that is constantly on the move and is headed towards a constantly moving target.

The year 2010-2011 has been another milestone in this marathon to develop a nation of resurgent energy

and unlimited passion.

It has been a year of growth: Yi’s membership grew to 1300 for city chapter members, and to 10000 for

Farmer Nets members and to 4000 for student nets members. Yi created a place for itself on the social

media platform as well, with many thousands following Yi’s progress on a daily basis.

A total of 716 activities in one year is a stupendous progress. This would have never been possible without

the undying spirit of members and chapter leadership of our 25 city chapters and 3 corporate chapters.

The Yi chapters have truly transformed themselves into grass roots change enablers. From planning

a city forest in Indore to conducing mass blood donation camps in Raipur to organizing Go Green campaigns

in Chandigarh, the Yi chapters have led and how!

The student nets are the soul of Yi. They have again showcased that when energized and given the right

framework, the young in India are ready to make transformative contribution to their nation. By integrating

themselves seamlessly with the Yi chapters and collaborating nationally, they have created a force that cannot

be ignored. Constructive student movements that are beyond rallies and campaigns is the new way the

Indian students want to engage with the process of nation building.

The farmer nets have always been a very important part of Yi. But this year by taking their practices to the

Agro Expo organized by CII during President Barak Obama’s visit, they have proven that progressive young

farmers in India are not the ones to stay behind in making themselves heard. Working extensively on creating

the Indian Good Agriculture Practices, the Farmer net members interacted with President Obama and

also participated in the Round table discussions led by Agriculture secretaries of both states.

Yi has always wanted to expand its reach in rural India through its work and activities. This year the

opportunity came in the form a suggestion of Ms. Meenakshi Natarajan, Member of Parliament

from Mandsaur and Neemuch in Madhya Pradesh. She recommended that Yi should undertake career

counseling for rural students. Dr. Sudha Iyer led this effort by developing RAISEC tests for rural

Indian children and also creating a career database for their use and reference. More than 3500

children benefitted from this exercise. Now this successful pilot is ready to be duplicated in Kashmir and

Sirsa, Haryana to begin with and will spread its footprint across the country.

This year saw Yi’s national initiatives create new models of engagement. The “Plant a Life “ initiative

conceived by Shaurya Veer Himatsingka to plant one million trees has met with tremendous success

in the first year itself with over 3.7 lakh trees planted

this year alone. The project SYighboard ideated by Mala

Patodia and Nirav Modi has addressed a simple but acute

need of blackboards in underprivileged schools. Launched

in November 2010, in a month’s time 388 boards

were installed in 69 schools. The Green I contest had

its fourth edition this year with more than 100 schools

participating and Deepa Sathiaram has led this program

with zeal and commitment.The celebration of World

Environment day by as many as 17 chapters on June 5th

created a new mechanism for Yi’s chapters across the nation

to collaborate on one single cause. Anuj Kothari from the

National Environment team worked tirelessly to make this

day a truly memorable one. August saw Yi undertake as

many as 101 activities and many were undertaken as part

of the Heritage Week celebrations planned by Siddharth

Ganeriwala and Priya Kamineni. Giving this new

initiative a mass appeal has been a courageous and definitive

move by them.

Yi has had several opportunities to make its presence felt in the

international sphere this year. The year began with a mission

to Israel and Turkey, and ended with a mission to Malaysia so

aptly conceptualized by the Coimbatore chapter. A significant

milestone was reached when Yi signed on behalf of India the

G20 Young Entrepreneur Communiqué and become a

part of the G20 Young Entrepreneur Alliance. My sincere

thanks to Rahul Mirchandani and Rahul Chawla for

taking the effort to ensure that India had its place in the world.

Yi’s retreats are its vehicles to think beyond today. They have

always propelled members to think out of the box about Yi and

themselves personally. Mahesh Sriram needs to be credited for

having thought of planning and executing four thematic

retreats in four different part of the country. The retreat

on Rhino Conservation in Kaziranga, Assam and the upcoming

retreat on Tiger Conservation in Kanha, Madhya Pradesh are

the first two in the series of four and many to come.

Yi had the unique opportunity to work with Planning

Commission of India this year to give the feedback of

the youth on the Approach paper to the 12th Plan.

Five consultations engaging more than 200 youth,

from rural Tamil Nadu to Indore to Pune to Delhi to

Bangaluru, created a new wave of advocacy.

Kumara Guru and Ram Sukumar’s leadership has also

transformed the way Yi plans and acts on its Finances. It is

a difficult, behind the scenes work that has ensured long-term

sustainability for Yi.

It has been a year of energy and engagement in all spheres and

facets. This could have never been possible without the support

Yi National Vice Chairman Shankar Vanavaryar. His

ideas and drive will ensure Yi will take another leap in the

coming year.

Behind every successful organization there are people, people

who make it work, people who make it last. The Yi internal

organization team of Executive Members led by Mahesh

Natarajan is exemplary in their dedication to this very

crucial cause. I have seen them year after year strive towards

making Yi a better organization. Mahesh’s unconditional

support has personally made the year a very special one in my

eight years of time in Yi.

The Yi Governing Council members, the past chairmen, the

Chapter leadership teams and the chapter Executive Council

members have poured their heart and soul into making this a

truly memorable and beautiful experience. My heartfelt and

sincere thanks to all of them.

This wonderful journey would have never been possible without

the support and guidance of Mr. Chandrajit Banerjee,

Director General of CII. He has been an ardent supporter

of Yi throughout. Yi has always turned to Mr. Tarun Das,

President Aspen Institute and Former Chief Mentor CII, for

motivation and direction, his passionate advice have kept us all

going. I take this opportunity to sincerely thank both of them

for their support, guidance and encouragement.

Yi is ready for a new flight and a new year and I am

extremely excited for all of us, as the process of rejuvenation

and regeneration takes on a new form. I wish one day Yi

will engage millions of young people across India and create

a movement that will ensure that our generation is playing a

pivotal role in shaping the future of India.

Young India is indeed surging ahead on a progressive path in the global arena elevating India into a

emergent position. Our ancient land with immense significance in the past is now regaining its status

in the world as a strong force. Today the India factor is vibrant worldwide with our collaborations and

contributions becoming a necessity. Much of this has been possible of course with the inherent strengths that

we possess but also the force of Young India.

The new found confidence and status leads us to a introspection to look if all is well in the nation today.

There are clear challenges that emerge bringing us in relation to the great gaps that exist in resource and

existing realities in many aspects but all this can be countered with resolve. Resolve needed should be similar

to the one seen during out struggle to gain freedom, today we are one of the youngest nations in the world

with a majority of the population young and where else can we find this resolve and strength.

Young Indians, an organization born as a evolution at a time when the youth aspect of India was being

visioned. The organization moving towards its decade of existence was born out of the need and want to be

a part of the solution and not part of the problem. Today we see across chapters, educational institutions and

farming communities the dynamic Yi’s taking active, aspirational and assertive role in building the New

India, an India that will be a dream realized.

In the past year under the passionate and dynamic leadership of Bhairavi Jani, the organization has seem

moments of great scale of its presence, performance and passion. She has been a force to recon with and will

remain so for a long time. We have had a good team in the Governing Council, lead much of the work

presented along with a committed team of Yi Executive members. It is also important to remember the

many members across the nation who enable this organization, it is their vibrancy that keep the progress

possible. The continued guidance and support of many elders and seniors of Yi and CII is a very integral

and important reason for much of what we see in this report. The year has been one of consolidation,

introspection, innovation and working on emerging opportunities.

In this year we also took an effort to engage with Chapter Leadership in a workshop format to deliberate

ways to enhance the organization and also learn from the chapters on how to carve the future to realize the

amazing potential that Yi faces. The workshops were held in the Southern and Western regions and it was

a time of great engagement and dynamic discussion with the chapter office bearers.

The Retreats in Yi are a time of reflection, bonding and coming in touch with aspects of India that are

extraordinary. The Yi Retreats team were exceptional in putting together some great programs based on

important Indian themes. The retreat “Truth about Rhinos” at Kaziranga was one of the best experiences

for me personally and every participant came back understanding India in a whole new way.

Yi as an organization is like a spirited living orgasm that is thriving and evolving to the environment. In

an setting like India with its unparalleled opportunities at the moment and clear challenges, Yi has the very

important duty to engage its generation in the active and lead role in Nation Building. We have a unique

opportunity to make our future and we will arise and aspire to realize the a new and Great India. In the

years ahead Yi will and can make this aspiration into arrival!

Yi has been a harbinger of positive change and advocacy for environmental protection and preservation of the ecology. Yi has organised various events & sessions and undertaken campaigns such as nature treks for members, sessions on water management and tree plantation drives. Yi also organised visits to companies with good ‘GREEN’ practices, with an objective of creating awareness on such issues. These have been made possible by involving local communities, students, farmers and local NGOs.

The ‘Plant A Life Be The Root Project’ is a Tree Plantation drive at a Pan‐India level and was envisioned to be an initiative under which Yi is undertaking plantation of One Million Trees across the length and breadth of the country, within a span of 365 days. The project was officially launched in the first week of February’ 2010. Yi has tied up with many implementation partners both at state and municipal level so as to work with them to achieve this target. The campaign aims to ramp up its plantation numbers exponentially to Ten Million Trees by the year 2015.

In order to achieve these audacious goals however, it is necessary to adopt techniques of plantation that are non-conventional, low-cost, scalable and quick to implement. Yi has zeroed in on adoption of the ‘seed ball scattering’ methodology, a cost effective and low-effort Japanese technique propounded by renowned agricultural scientist Mr. Masanobu Fukuoka.

Go-Green Campaign

Yi Chandigarh organised the ‘Go Green Campaign’ to address the concern of environment conservation. The Campaign was launched with a cycle rally in which over 150 youth from school and colleges paddled to spread the message – “Go Green – Be on the Green side”. The week long celebrations of the Environment Day concluded with a panel discussion on e-waste management and live demo on rain water harvesting.

Other than those mentioned above, Yi also organised a series of Environment Initiatives throughout the year across chapters. A few of these were: Organic Dinner (Chandigarh), Operation Verdant Green (Bhubaneshwar), Green mission to ITC Green Centre (Delhi) and an interactive session on wildlife and environment (Pune).

As part of its World Environment Day Celebrations, 17 Yi chapters came together and organised series of activities with an aim of creating public awareness regarding the environment. Yi Bangalore organised a walkathon in the city with 1000 participants. A poster campaign on ‘Water To Birds’ was a success at Coimbatore, while Yi Erode released a poster campaign on ‘Tips to Save Energy & Water’. A panel discussion on ‘Implementing Sustainable Growth & Development’ was organised by Yi Mumbai. Yi Hyderabad undertook Bamboo plantation and screened a movie on environment.

c o n t e s tEvery year, Yi organises the Green-I contest for students to generate ideas that can be implemented in their schools and awards the best ideas, that come from school students, across the country. The Green-I 2010 competition is the fourth edition of the initiative. The contest topic for the year was “How to build a Green Centre in your school as organically as possible?”

The Green-I contest this year had received over 100 entries from schools all-over India. Winner of this contest was The Daly College, Indore, followed by Sardar Patel Vidyalaya, New Delhi; Sai International School, Bhubaneswar; Vasant Valley School, New Delhi and Akshar, Kolkata. A grant of 7 lakh rupees is awarded to the winner for implementation of these projects.

To observe Yi National Education Day on 14 November 2010, Yi Education team rolled out Operation SYightboard nationally amongst government and underprivileged schools across chapters. This is a unique program, aimed at improving the black board facilities in underprivileged schools, where blackboards are not sufficient and are not in good condition, affecting the quality of education. The program has been piloted in Hyderabad in 177 Govt. schools impacting 39,497 students. 1028 black boards were replaced or repaired at a cost of Rs. 12.25 Lakh averaging 6 blackboards and Rs. 7000 per school. Yi is looking at reaching out to 1000 schools nationally and impacting approximately 2,50,000 children from economically and socially underprivileged background.

Akshara is an Innovative Learning Resource Centre for children. The Learning Resource Centre (LRC) consists of materials, books, teaching and learning aids, making them accessible to teachers and children of primary level classes.

The Objective/Key Benefits to Children:

• Energize the children through Creative Learning: Reason out of the box, Improve logical thinking.

• Materials have been carefully chosen to ensure learning outcomes are met with simple manipulative that are independent of infrastructure.

Yi PCC LABS successfully completed its thirteenth batch of LABS (Livelihood Advancement Business School). A valedictory session for this batch was held at KOEL, Khadki, Pune. A unique feature of this session was that the session was organized within the campus of KOEL for the first time and the entire programme was co-ordinated by the LABS students itself.

Ms Malini Thadani, Head of Group Communication & Corporate Sustainability, HSBC India, was there to grace the programme and gave away the certificate to the students. Col. Shrinath Mudholkar, Head CSR initiative, KOEL, Ms Monika Trivedi, Yi Pune Past Chair, & Ms Padmini Sundaram - Yi Pune Co – Chair & Employability Chair were among the dignitaries present at the occasion.

In 2010 Yi partnered with Dr Reddy’s Foundation (DRF) in a Non Financial Model, where financial contribution is voluntary and not mandatory. In the non financial model, Yi contributes by:

• Assisting DRF in forming a network for Business 2 Youth network through Yi linkages

• Assisting with placements

• Assisting DRF in venue identification

• Providing comprehensive guest lectures during the course

• Facilitating tie-ups with Local bodies (NGO, Trusts, Municipalities, etc.)

• Assisting in identifying faculty (when needed)

The fourth edition of the Coimbatore Vizha showcased 72 events and brought the city alive over a period of eight days with about 11 new associations joining hands with the already present 45 associations. Major events included ‘The Drag Race’ conducted at Chettipalayam, ‘The Puppet Show’ conducted at Bharthiya Vidhya Bhavan School and ‘Arputha Bharatham’, a special dance conducted by special children.

Yi celebrated the Heritage week with grand gusto across chapters. The objective of Heritage Week was to Spread awareness of India’s heritage through showcasing and involvement; Promote conservation and participation in India’s Heritage and Culture; Organise activities / events to reach people of all ages, from all walks of life. At Bhubaneshwar, school students visited the Orissa State Museum and Lingraj Temple, while Yi Chennai had a panel discussion on ‘Conservation of Heritage Structures’. At Indore a workshop on organised on Numismatic Heritage of India, conducted by Dr. S. K. Bhatt, Founder & Director, The Academy of Indian Numismatics and Sigillography.

SSN Yi Net, Ongole has initiated a project to Ban usage of plastic in Ongole District. As part of this initiative they submitted a memorandum to the District Collector of Ongole, who immediately sent out a circular to shops & other establishments in the district to stop using plastic bags & use paper bags instead.

25 students of I2IT Yi Pune net members visited the Old Age Home ‘Nivara’ under celebration of ‘Joy of Giving Week’ on Gandhi Jayanti. They interacted with nearly 50 senior citizens and distributed roses, blankets, daily utility items, buckets, mug set, Sugar, Turdal etc worth Rs 14300 and a cash donation of Rs 711.

Yi organized an ‘Education Fair’ where school dropouts and unemployed from the neighboring slums were made aware of the various vocational training courses and employment opportunities available. The fair was a platform for them to know and enroll for courses they were interested in. 50 had registered with the organizations and 10 received placements.

A group of 20 students from the Indira School of Career Development, Chinchwad visited an orphanage, ‘Punaruthan Gurukulam’, Chinchwad, Pune.

With an aim to spread the message of environment protection, Yi MEC net in association with TREE (The Road to Environmental Excellence), did a tree plantation campaign with the aim of planting thousand trees of medicinal and economic importance in a single day.

16 new Student Nets were launched in 2010 at the following places, taking the total number to 72, with 4101 students enrolled: Bangalore (1), Bhubaneshwar (1), Coimbatore (1), Erode (2), Indore (1), Kochi (2), Kolkata (2), Mumbai (1), Pune (2), Vadodara (2), and, Vizag (1).

Yi Rural Communitiescareer counselling for rural students

farmers ’ net

Career counselling is an important aspect in building career path for today’s youth. With an aim to reach out to rural college, school and ITI students and make them aware of the career opportunities, CII’s Young Indians organised several career counselling workshops at Mandsaur and Neemuch Districts in Madhya Pradesh with the encouragement of Ms Meenakshi Natarajan, Hon’ble Member of Parliament.

The workshops focussed upon the process of career planning that leads to choosing the right career path. The participants were exposed to different career options they can choose from and how they can find more information about the same and eventually make the right choice for their future.

The focus of the year’s activities under the Young Indians Farmers Net was centred around the theme of building a framework for Indian Good Agricultural Practices. The activities are aimed at increasing the exposure of young progressive farmers in innovation of world class crop management techniques. This was achieved by experiential sharing with researchers, agricultural universities, government extension officers and agricultural students and peer groups of farmers in neighbouring areas. All practices identified were tested for replicability and provided farmers with cost-saving and sustainable green technologies for speedy adoption. The following activities were carried out during the year, which shows the scale of work and the depth of method in key focus areas.

1. Integrated Nutrient Management: The farmers were trained on the balanced use of major, secondary and micro-nutrients along with organic and biological nutrition sources.

planning including SWOT analysis, personality testing, information gathering and the importance of practical experience and discussions.

The sessions with college students covered job skills, behavioural skills, using the internet to learn about various career options, career opportunities in their field of study, amongst other essential skills. The students were given a list of 191 careers to choose from, which opened up a whole new horizon.

Separate sessions were also organised for teachers to sensitise them to career counselling, equip them with information on personality tests, career options and ability to guide students on how to get more information on select careers.

More than 4000 students, 9 schools, 4 colleges, 3 ITIs participated and benefitted from these workshops.

The launch of the ‘Food and Agriculture Center of Excellence’ was marked by an Ariculture Roundtable and Expo. The Expo exemplified collaborations among Indian and US companies, universities, and institutions and was also attended by farmers through CII-Young Indians. President Obama walked through the exhibits, stopping at booths that displayed specific technologies that have improved the agricultural value chain. He interacted with farmers at the Expo to gain a better understanding of how those technologies have impacted their lives.

2. Crop Management Technologies: This is a programme that covers all aspects from soil preparation, seed selection, choice of agricultural inputs, farm labour management, harvesting techniques and agri output marketing methods. Farmers involved in this session meet experts in these various fields for extremely interesting interactive session.

3. Post-Harvest Management: Wastage of agricultural output post-harvest in transit and storage is a matter of serious concern. The usage of more effective techniques to ensure loss of output in storage and transit is an essential part of awareness building.

Ms Bhairavi Jani, Chairman, CII’s Young Indians, led a 15 member Learning Mission to Israel and Turkey. In Israel, the delegation had wide ranging meetings, and was impressed by Israel’s focus on science and technology, after the visits to, and interactions with faculty and scientists at the Weizmann Institute of Science, Tel Aviv University, Elbit Imaging and Matimop.

A delegation of CII’s Young Indians (Yi) and BYST represented India at the G20 Young Entrepreneur Summit (G20 YES) hosted by the Canadian Young Business Foundation (CYBF). 17 countries participated in this unique Young Entrepreneurs Summit, where India was represented by the Yi delegation led by Ms. Bhairavi Jani (President of the delegation) and National Chairman, Yi. Ms. Bhairavi Jani signed the final communiqué on behalf of the Indian delegation which was used to call upon leaders of governments participating at the G20 Business Leaders Summit at Toronto to recognise the imperatives and to pledge their support for action. The five key issues identified in the final communiqué include access to finance, coordinated effort, entrepreneurial culture, taxation and regulation and education.

The consultative Summit urged the Governments of the representing countries to extend their support to the young entrepreneurs by facilitating access to funding, providing required education and training for entrepreneurship at micro level and harnessing a culture of entrepreneurship in the country.

The visit to the water treatment plant at Shafdan for waste water treatment for use in agriculture, and the irrigation solutions at Naan-Dan-Jain Irrigation Co, provided useful learnings to the Indian farm sector. Yi plans to schedule a learning mission for Indian farmers to Israel. The mission concluded with a visit to Istanbul, to experience its rich history and culture.

A 6-member high profile Young Parliamentary delegation from Australia accompanied by the Consul General and the Liaison Officer, Ministry of External Affairs were in Mumbai to interact with the Yi Mumbai Chapter.

The prime objective of this interaction was to familiarize the delegation on India’s economic growth across various sectors, along with social and cultural aspects. The Yi team was positive on the concurrent International partnerships and intent to represent young Indians’ voices overseas.

Young Indians organized a global excellence mission to Malaysia with an objective to learn from the best practices of globally renowned companies and to interact with the CEOs and the team behind their success. The objective was also to interact with business associations and governmental departments working on enhancing links between India and Malaysia.

The delegation was impressed with Yi’s part of the G20 Young Entrepreneur Alliance. Suggestions from the delegation stated that Yi can be addressed at the Australian parliamentarians in Canberra and also at the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting in Fremantle, near Perth, Western Australia in the month of October 2011 next year. Partnering on exchange programmes between Australia and India was also discussed.

The Planning Commission in preparation of the 12th Five Year Plan, asked Young Indians (Yi) to hold consultations with youth and submit its findings to the approach paper which captures feedback from the ‘Youth’ of India. Yi organized 5 Youth Consultations at Pollachi (Tamil Nadu), Bangalore, Pune, Delhi and Indore. The youth segments covered by the consultations were urban working class youth / urban students/ Rural students / Farmers / Homemakers / Entrepreneurs / Academicians / Not for profit organizations/ School teachers etc. The participants were in the age group of 18-35 years and more than 210+ participants joined the various sessions. The consultation covered 7 Key challenges identified by the planning commission and a comprehensive report on the findings has been submitted to the planning commission: Enhancing Skills And Faster Generations of Employment; Managing The Environment; Decentralization, Empowerment, Information; Technology And Innovation; Rural Transformation And Sustained Growth Of Agriculture; Managing Urbanization; and, Improved Access to Quality Education. Yi organised a session on ‘Securing India’s Future – Role of Young Indians’ with Shri P Chidambaram, Hon’ble Minister for Home Affairs, Government of India. The session, conducted in partnership with CNBC-TV18, deliberated upon the essence of ‘Holistic Security’ in the current scenario. Mr. Chidambaram spoke on the various topics that are of relevance to the security and growth of India. Yi Guwahati chapter organised an adventure and learning retreat to co-create Yi’s role in Rhino Conservation

at the Kaziranga National Park . The retreat was designed to transfer the knowledge of Rhino Experts into Yi so that Yi can respond by asking the right questions and taking the right actions. Firoz Ahmed, a wildlife biologist, S Dutta, Director of Kaziranga National Park and Mr Talukdar, the founder of Aranyak moderated the sessions and helped conduct field trips at the National Park.

Yi Indore is organising an adventure and learning retreat to co-create Yi’s role in Tiger Conservation . The retreat includes talks and discussions on wildlife and birding, visit to tiger habitat and interaction with tiger experts in order to understand the truth about tiger conservation.

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is a non-government, not-

for-profit, industry-led and industry-managed organisation, playing a

proactive role in India’s development process. Founded over 115 years

ago, it is India’s premier business association, with a direct membership

of over 8100 organisations from the private as well as public sectors,

including SMEs and MNCs, and an indirect membership of over 90,000

companies from around 400 national and regional sectoral associations.

CII works to create and sustain an environment conducive to the growth

of industry in India, partnering industry and government alike through

advisory and consultative processes. It catalyses change by working closely

with government on policy issues, enhancing efficiency, competitiveness

Young Indians (Yi) was formed in 2002 with a vision ‘To become the

voice of young Indians globally’ and an objective of creating a platform

for young Indians to realize the dream of a developed nation. An integral

part of CII, Yi has over 1300 direct members in 24 city chapters, 160

members in 3 corporate chapters. Yi membership includes young

progressive Indians between the age group of 25 & 40 years. Members

comprise entrepreneurs, professionals and progressive achievers from

different walks of life.

Yi works to promote leadership skills for the development of its members

through the learning programs; the development and engagement of

students in schools and colleges through its 72 Student Net platforms,

which engage more than 4000 students from various educational

institutions across India; and two Farmers Net platform that has enrolled

10,000 young & progressive farmers from all across the country, providing

them with real time agricultural inputs and know-how.

Yi has successfully conducted campaigns and developed successful projects

across the focus areas of primary education, environment, primary healthcare

and expanding business opportunities for industry through a range of specialised

services and global linkages. It also provides a platform for sectoral consensus

building and networking. Major emphasis is laid on projecting a positive image

of business, assisting industry to identify and execute corporate citizenship

programmes. Partnerships with over 120 NGOs across the country carry forward

CII’s initiatives in integrated and inclusive development.

With 64 offices and 7 Centres of Excellence in India, and 7 overseas in Australia,

China, France, Singapore, South Africa, UK, and USA, and institutional

partnerships with 223 counterpart organisations in 90 countries, CII serves as a

reference point for Indian industry and the international business community.

nation. Yi organises an annual national summit with themes relevant to India

and its youth. The national summits include sessions and interactions with some

of the finest and eminent personalities from various fields, across India and the

world. 6 editions of the summit have been organised to date.

Yi works in partnership with various organisations. These include the

Government, Companies, Civil Society organizations. On the international

arena, Yi engages with the BMW Foundation to promote the ‘Indo German

Young Leaders Forum’ for young thought leaders from Germany and India to

come on a common platform to discuss issues and find solutions for enhanced

relationships. Yi also works with the Aspen India Institute to conduct leadership

development programs. It has also worked with the Planning Commission of

India in conducting consultation workshops across its chapters for accumulating

a youth perspective for to be included in the 12th Five Year Plan.

With eight years of glorious past and decades ahead that promise nothing short,

Yi intends to become a larger movement and promote the positive attitude of

“We Can, We Will”.
