In its prime spot beside Whitby Abbey and its popular visitor centre, YHA Whitby is an impressive hostel offering enviable views out across the harbour. This Grade I listed mansion is a fascinating mix of period features and mod cons, and offers plenty of space for groups to explore. Our impressive clifftop garden provides a magical place for running off steam or taking part in our hostel activities. Further afield you can enjoy sandy beaches, rock pools, fish and chips, fascinating history and witness a working harbour. Whilst the town can be accessed by road, most of our visitors prefer to take the path that follows the famous 199 steps. Be sure to count them as you go!

Pre visit

Whether you’ve stayed with us before or are new to YHA, we encourage group leaders to organise a preview visit. It’s the perfect opportunity for you to talk to our staff, gain assistance with completing your paperwork, and get first-hand experience of the activities available. Plus, if you have a distance to travel, or you want longer to explore the surrounding area, we can offer you free overnight accommodation too.

Night Hike: Follow the cliff top path to take in the stars over the moors, see the moon twinkle on the sea and the town lights blink up at you
