Yemen ordered a lockdown. I personally sent Riam money to protect herself from the virus with a mask and gloves (I couldn’t forgive myself if sending her outside was going to kill one of her relatives). After a short delay we gave food to another five families. With the money that was left Riam bought milk powder for a few mothers with young children. The situation with the virus is still quite surreal. On one hand it’s good that Yemen decided to react so fast. The poor health care system could not handle the situation at all. They basically don’t have any available tests and barely any medical equipment. At least not for the common people. If the virus starts to spread, which is quite inevitable, Yemen will collapse. They simply do not have the resources to deal with it. But on the other hand a lockdown could be worse than the virus itself. The people of Yemen (or other poor countries) do not have the “privilege” to stay home and protect themselves. If you face war, hunger and poverty every day, a virus that “only kills sick and old” is the last thing you worry about. If you stay home your family won’t eat. So of course you want to ignore the threat and work. This will obviously make the virus spread faster, but you can’t blame these people. They most likely don’t have government who provides for them while they stay inside with no money to spend. It’s a tragic trade-off between the fight against the virus and the fight against poverty. Either way a lot of people die. But there’s also good things happening. People have never shown more solidarity and helpfulness towards each other than now. So let’s use that same positive energy for our brothers and sisters across the globe. You can donate to whatever project. I’ll do my best to provide a helpline for Yemen but as I mentioned people all around the world need our help. So let’s show them what unified love can be.

Yemen: Third 500$

The third time was quite problematic. The outbreak of the coronavirus didn’t make it easy for

Riam to go outside. Yemen ordered a lockdown. I personally sent Riam money to protect

herself from the virus with a mask and gloves (I couldn’t forgive myself if sending her outside

was going to kill one of her relatives). After a short delay we gave food to another five families.

With the money that was left Riam bought milk powder for a few mothers with young

children.

The situation with the virus is still quite surreal. On one hand it’s good that Yemen decided to

react so fast. The poor health care system could not handle the situation at all.

They basically don’t have any available tests and barely any medical equipment. At least not

for the common people. If the virus starts to spread, which is quite inevitable, Yemen will

collapse. They simply do not have the resources to deal with it. But on the other hand a

lockdown could be worse than the virus itself. The people of Yemen (or other poor countries)

do not have the “privilege” to stay home and protect themselves. If you face war, hunger and

poverty every day, a virus that “only kills sick and old” is the last thing you worry about. If you

stay home your family won’t eat. So of course you want to ignore the threat and work.

This will obviously make the virus spread faster, but you can’t blame these people. They most

likely don’t have government who provides for them while they stay inside with no money to

spend. It’s a tragic trade-off between the fight against the virus and the fight against poverty.

Either way a lot of people die.

But there’s also good things happening. People have never shown more solidarity and

helpfulness towards each other than now. So let’s use that same positive energy for our

brothers and sisters across the globe. You can donate to whatever project. I’ll do my best to

provide a helpline for Yemen but as I mentioned people all around the world need our help.

So let’s show them what unified love can be.
