Why? Here’s the story.... My husband Rob is the true purple-wearing Rockies fan and sees them ALL the time. He suspiciously gets tickets days before the opening game and goes with his friends. Does he have an extra for me? Answer: no, because his friend got an extra ticket for him and by then it’s too late for me to take a day off. He suspiciously takes time off at the last minute so he can sneak out with his work buddies during work without me. He sneaks out his purple shirt in the car that morning! Somehow my instincts tell me he’s been at the game because I smell a Rockie Dog on him, or he walks in with a Rockies shirt on his arm. Hello...dead giveaway! Sometimes he tells me AFTER he’s been to the game because it’s after the fact, or he’s stupid enough to tell my teenage daughter and brag about going to the game. He says, “Don’t tell mom,” but she winds up telling me anyway because she can’t keep a secret. Ask him to take a day off with me...no way. Got an extra ticket for Opening Day? No, my buddy got ’em. All season: got an extra ticket? No, my buddy got ’em. It’s like a broken record. So when I really want to go to a game, I have to buy my own tickets and nicely invite my husband—only because I hate to drive in traffic in Denver and he knows the secret cheap parking spots. Who got tickets to Sunday’s 1 p.m. game? Me. Who pays for them? Me. I am the BIGGEST Rockies fan around. I wear purple and bleed purple every day. I have managed all three baseball teams at my school for the past four years and my plan after high school is to become an MLB Scout! I always make my family wear some kind of Rockies gear during games. If I can’t watch, I make my family text me the scores and we have XM Radio to listen to the games. I wear two Rockies bracelets every day and I have a piggy bank that is wearing a Rockies shirt! (His name is Spilly.) I am even wearing a Rockies purple prom dress this year to prom. My school gave me five tickets to a Rockies game for my volunteerism during base- ball season, since they all know how much I love the Rockies. I love the Rock- ies because they were born in 1993 and so was I. I even have had a Rockies birthday cake for the past four years! I have some autographs and I even went a few years back to the Sky Sox to see Tulo! My dream is to meet and get Todd Helton’s autograph some day, as I did a big report on him my freshman year and got an “A.” Thank you for letting me be a HUGE FAN!! - “Your Story, Our Team” submitted by Alicia Thornberry, Woodland Park, Colo.
