- Number and Algebra

We will begin the term by looking at multiplication which will follow on nicely from our times tables focus from last term. Students will learn efficient mental and written strategies to solve multiplication problems including how to solve larger number (one or two digit) multiplication problems.

Our work with fractions will begin with recognising simple fractions. Students will be ordering, converting and comparing numbers and working with money problems involving finding percentages of whole numbers. Students will begin to recognise the connection between fractions, decimals and percentages and compete open ended, problem solving tasks to practise these concepts and further their understanding.

- Measurement

Following on from our work with angles and area and perimeter last term, students will continue to investigate measurement concepts. This will including working with different units of length and mass as well as volume and capacity. We will end the term exploring time!

* EUCHARIST: Nourishing our Goodness

* CONFIRMATION: The Spirit Frees

The ‘Nourishing our Goodness’ unit

explores the human need to develop the

personal qualities and talents that

reflect inner goodness. Students will

discover that wondering at the talents

and good qualities people have within

them, leads people to wonder at God

who created these qualities. People can

celebrate what this reveals about God:

who loves all people equally.

Our second unit ‘The Spirit Frees’,

explores how God gave people the

freedom and ability to make choices.

Students will learn that as people grow,

they can improve their ability to make

choices that reflect love and respect.

Jesus taught people how to freely follow

God by loving one another. We will

explore how the Holy Spirit guide us to

make good choices by reading stories

about Mary and the saints, who showed

that they were filled with the Holy Spirit. H A S S

* Our Wonderful World

Our Geography based HASS unit for this

term focuses on the world around us.

Students wi l l invest igate how the

environment can be altered to allow

people to live where they do. They will

explore the local community, then look at

the Geographical make up of Australia

including different climates.

Students will use different mapping skills

and compare different elements of life in

Australia compared to neighbouring

countr ies. Students wi l l create a

presentation on a country of their

choosing including its indigenous people.

As a culminating activity, students will

work in groups to create their own country!

Thank you for your ongoing support with homework. The students are developing good work habits which help to set them up for success in the coming years of their schooling.

Please note that homework grids are either fortnightly or weekly. Students will receive a paper copy of their grid on a Monday and need to ensure a parent sights and signs it before handing it in at the end of the week or fortnight. We encourage parents to sit with their child where possible to help out with Mathletics activities, listen to them read aloud and oversee their tasks. Thank you.

In general, the students have continued to responsible use and care for their iPads, which has been great to see. There have been a few instances this year where students have misused and damaged their devices or cases, resulting in repairs needing to be made. Please help to ensure your child is using their device carefully at home and transporting it safely to and from school by reminding and overseeing. Thank you for your support and communication with these devices.
