A big congratulations to all students who took part in the Languages on Line competition. We came 374th globally out of 1054 schools. Our students spent a total of 581 hours learning languages on line in ten days and they enjoyed the chal-lenge, not to mention lots of feedback regarding how much more confident they felt with their language speaking ability afterwards. Four gold awards were given to Amelia Gray (9), Mary-Rose Macdonald (7), Merlin Bennett (9), and Isabella Glue (9). Two silver to Darcy Travis (7) and Katie Robinson (9). Six bronze to Vito Vallet (7), Matilda Hrotek Jones (7), William Hall (7), Tiffany Hull (7), Ryan Parrish (9) and Kimberley Vidler (9). I am extremely proud of all students who gave it their best shot. Miss Lishman, Language Teacher

From the Principal This is quite an unusual situation, I think it is the first time in quite a long career I have actually been a bit sad on the last day of a school term! I am certainly not sad about returning to Nimbin Central School as that is my educational ‘home’, I am however sad at leaving the River after such a lively and enjoyable period of time relieving here. I hope you all enjoy the holidays, look after each other and stay safe. No doubt many of us will run into each other around Lismore but I would like to finish with a big thankyou to the staff and students who have made me feel welcome and supported as school leader. All the best. Ms M-J Pell Relieving Principal From the Deputy School Holidays The school holidays begin Saturday 29th June and students return to school on Tuesday 16th July. It’s time to enjoy a break from the daily school routine and rejuvenate the batteries ready for a great Term 3. Farewell to Our Relieving Principal – Mary-Jane Pell It is with great regret that we say good-bye to Mary-Jane at the end of this semester. She has been a wonderful colleague to work with in 2013 and has brought a happiness and richness to RRHS that is appreciated. We wish her well in her career and life in the future. Mary-Jane presented the keynote address at the assembly yesterday and encouraged students to be prepared to take on the new opportunities as they came along even if they were outside their normal comfort zone. She talked about the need to work for success, achievement, education and your future and to be prepared accept challenges and grow as a person. Awards Assembly It was extremely pleasing to see so many talented students receiving certificates at the assembly on Thursday. We are very pleased with the musical performances of our students as well. Students from the Year 11 and Year 12 music classes performed on stage. Years 7-11 Reports All students received their reports today for semester one. These were handed out in Period 7 by Year Advisors. They can be collected from the front office Tuesday 16th July. Parent Teacher Evenings will occur next term as

follows: Years 7 and 8 Parent Teacher Interviews on Thursday 18 July. 3.30 pm to 6.00 pm. Years 9 to 11 Parent Teacher Interviews on Tuesday 30 July. 3.30 pm to 7.00 pm. Knitting The knitting group has celebrated its success and achievements at a luncheon on Wednesday in the library. Students have been learning to knit and making squares that are then transformed into rugs for people overseas. This is a fantastic project for our students run by Mrs Seccombe and Ms Hinchey. It helps students develop new skills, meet new students and to put themselves out for those who are less fortunate. Year 12 Trials Just a reminder that these begin Week 2 next term – Monday 22nd July. There is still time for students to make a difference to their HSC results. Please make sure that you check the exam timetable for the times and dates of all exams to ensure students arrive on time. Year 11 Snow Trip Week 2 Term 3. Winter uniform As the weather will continue to be chilly well into next term it is important that students prepare their uniform. Red or grey jumpers are suitable for school. Uniform clothing can be purchased from Lowes at Lismore Square. Plain jumpers can be purchased from K-Mart. Winter clothing sales are starting now it may be time to pick up what is required at a bargain price. Subject Selection Evenings Years 8 and 9 will be in Term 3. Next P&C meeting – Wednesday 17th July. Mrs D Williamson Deputy Principal

Personal Interest Projects – Year 8

This week, PIP lessons centred on the Habit of Mind – Thinking and Communi-cating with Clarity and Precision. In pairs, students did an activity where they had describe an image while the other student had to draw what the oth-er student was describing, they then reflected on how they communicated what had to be drawn. Next term stu-dents will be writing a reflection state-ment about their project and preparing their presentation. Parents and carers please discuss with your child their pro-ject, projects need to be completed by Week 3 Term 3. Mrs L. Seccombe, Teacher-Librarian
