Year 6 Science task

The aim of this task is to help you prepare for the kinds of work you will be doing at secondary

school and for us to get a better idea of where you are at as scientists.

Task 1: Complete this quiz by following this link:

https://forms.gle/ADMFpmM6wAq889FV7.

It will help us to see your thinking see your thinking about chemistry.

Task 2: A lot of science is about explaining the world around us by thinking about it in different

ways. We would like you to:

Describe and explain what happens to an ice cube left outside on a warm day

I am sure most of you would feel confident to describe this quite easily using some scientific key

terms like melting or evaporation.

We would like to see how far you can take your description and explanation. Some ideas you may

want to consider:

What does it look like as the ice melts (take some ice and observe it closely – write down

your findings)?

What are the particles in the ice doing as they heat up?

How does the location of the ice cube affect these changes?

Water boils at 100oC. Eventually your ice cube will evaporate at a much lower temperature –

how can this happen?

You can choose how you would like to present your work (poster, power points, video etc.) and we

look forward to seeing it.
