Class Novel Now that you are all up and running with Microsoft Teams, we have uploaded recordings of us reading our Class Novel. You will find them in Class Materials Class Novel – Podkin One-Ear. This week, you will find Chapters 10 - 13 uploaded to Microsoft Teams. Please make sure you are listening. If you have your own copies, please read along.

Key Characters & Places A good way of getting to know a new book is to get to know the characters really well. In the first few chapters that we are sharing with you this week, we are introduced to the main characters of the book. A nice idea would be to create a character profile for each one and add extra information about each character when you learn it from the text. The characters in the book also visit a lot of different places. You could also create a bank of places from the book with information about each one. It might be a nice idea to draw pictures of each character and place to help you remember them clearly.

Year Four Monday 13th July 2020 English, Read and analyse a playscript

Read the script, you might recognise it from our short film

we made!

Now highlight the:

Action

Character’s name

Dialogue

Scene heading

What can you notice about the layout of this script?

Action - an instruction in the text indicating the movement, position, or tone of an actor. Character’s name - the person talking. Dialogue – when someone is talking. Scene Heading – this always includes the scene number, int (interior)_ or ext (exterior), the location and if it is day or night.

When you put each event onto your timeline you should

include:

The name of the event

The date in which it happened

A photo or illustration of the event

Challenge

If you want to make your timeline even better you can

research and add in other significant events from the

Industrial Revolution.

You can use the line below or draw your own!

Year Four Tuesday 14th July 2020 Science – Comstruct and Identify Food Chains

A food chain shows how plants and animals get their energy.

Producers and consumers

A food chain always starts with a producer. This is an organism that makes its own food. Most food

chains start with a green plant, because plants can make their food by photosynthesis.

A living thing that eats other plants and animals is called a consumer.

Predators and prey

A predator is an animal that eats other animals. The animals that predators eat are called prey.

Predators are found at the top of a food chain.

Cut out the animals below

and make as many food

chains as possible.

Challenge!

Can you

research and

create your own food chain?

Year 4 Wednesday 14th July 2020 English, Script Writing

Script Writing

Hello Year 4, We are so proud of how hard you are all still working at home and we loved reading you letters last week! They made us both smile. This week we have a new challenge for you and we know you are ready to take on the task! Today you are going to write your scripts where all your favorite characters meet. Please refer to the content in your LfH pack for Tuesday and the structure to support you in completing this week's writing task. Your task today is to write your script. Follow the structure:

How do your characters meet?

What are they doing?

What adventure do they go on? Or where do they explore?

Which character saved the day?

Do they stick together or return to their books? You will also find a blank template in the resources attached to this task. We look forward to reading your script soon,, Miss Ashworth and Miss Forsythe P.S. You could include an illustration of your favourite characters too! We would love to see some videos on twitter of you acting out your play!

Supporting Resources: Planning template from previous day as a reminder (page 11) A blank word document template for you to write on (available on MS Teams)

An assignment has been set on Microsoft Teams

Please login to Microsoft teams to submit your writing for feedback.

You may complete your writing online using the template document provided.

Alternatively, you may wish to take a photograph of a handwritten piece of work

and upload this for feedback.

Today’s challenge is ILLUSTRATION.

Illustration is the art of drawing pictures to accompany writing – in this case, drawings to go with children’s stories. Over this

year, we have looked at a range of books on each term’s bookshelf. Your challenge is to choose one of them and to create a

piece of alternative art work for that book. The book may already have illustrations but you don’t have to draw in the same

style – in fact, it would be even better if you can use your own style for your picture.

Choose a significant moment or event in

the story that you would like to illustrate.

What character(s) will you draw?

If you have a copy of the text, read what it

says about the character – are there any

clues about what they look like?

Use the links on this page for some inspiration

and to learn about some significant children’s

book illustrators.

You can do this activity with paints,

crayons or even biscuits topped with

different coloured icing!

Year Four Friday 17th July 2020 English, SPaG – Subordinating Conjunctions

SPaG – Subordinating Conjunctions

A conjunction is a word, or words, used to connect two clauses together. Words such as: 'although', 'because' or 'when' .

A subordinating clause is a part of a sentence that adds additional information to the main clause. A subordinating conjunction is simply the word/words that is used to join a subordinating clause to another clause or sentence.

"He was annoyed, the train had stopped."

"He was annoyed because the train had stopped."

By adding 'because' we are linking the subordinating clause "the train had stopped" with the main clause "He was annoyed".

Circle the subordinating conjunction in these sentences.

1. Miss Ashworth ate all the biscuits because she was hungry.

2. Miss Hooker blew out the candles on the cake although it was not her birthday.

3. Miss Forsythe gets hungry as soon as she can smell pizza. Complete the sentence with the correct subordinating conjunction.

1. Miss Ashworth went to sleep ______ the children went home. After But And

2. Paddington ate his sandwich ______ the train stopped. When Although Because

3. The children got excited ______ they saw cake. That Unless Whenever
