Wow! Thanks for such a super effort with

homework this term, you have been on

some great journeys!

This has been another great historical term learning all about the Vikings and the year of 1066!

On Friday 5th May Year 4 embarked upon Viking Training! Learning how to dress, speak, settle,

make medicine, make jewellery, eat and battle like Vikings! First, we dressed like Vikings. We

wore tunics tied with double knots and had either a zoomorphic or stylised tattoo on our face.

Next, we learnt how to settle like Vikings. We looked at weapons and armour, made clay pots,

flour and medicine, played the game of knucklebones and even had a go at weaving our own

cloth. After that, we made our own amulets from metal. We curved the edges to make it smooth

then scratched in our names in Viking Runes. Next, we had a Viking Feast! We tried rabbit stew,

dried cow, fish, mash and foraged mushrooms and berries. Finally, we re-created the Battle of

1066. We stood in perfectly straight lines and learnt battle cries and moves.

Misty Mountain Sierra

Mighty mountains peak above the morning mists,

imposing and eternal, rocky outcrops at their feet.

Discover how these giants are formed, as a fold or a

block, a dome or a plateau. Follow the water cycle’s

course from peak to valet and meet the exceptional

tribes of the hostile Himalayas.

Next Term . . .

We’ve had a lot of fun this term in English! We have

immersed ourselves fully in the Viking world and have

been learning how to train dragons! We have been

reading each chapter with eager anticipation and

waiting to find out the best way to live amongst the dragons.

We have created our own dragons and included amazing

adjectives in descriptions. We have also written instructions

on how to train a dragon as we discovered Professor Yobbish

was not very good at it! As well as this, we have focused on

improving punctuation in our writing and our reading

comprehension skills. We will continue with this story next

term and cannot wait to find out if Hiccup and the gang pass

the Dragon Initiation Test!

On Thursday 18th May, the whole school took part in a day of outdoor

learning. This meant we spent every one of our lessons in the school

grounds. We even had a picnic lunch on the field!

We linked our outdoor learning to our maths topic of area and perimeter,

using trundle wheels to measure various rectangles in the playground.

We looked at a fabulous book called Flotsam and took inspiration from the

character to take pictures of things that we think we could write a story

about.

In Science we went on a bug hunt! We are learning all about Living

Things and Their Habitats and how we can classify different invertebrates.

We used pooters to capture several creepy crawlies and spent time

observing them and deciding what kind of invertebrate they were.
