9d40&list=PLCiOXwirraUDUYF_qDYcZV8Hce8dsE_Ho&index=88&t=0sand the following relevant clips to reinforce your knowledge

• Logic is fundamental to computer science – we use it all the time as programmers but there is the academic discipline of logic called rather grandly “Formal Logic” or even “Formal Symbolic Logic” that turns what we ‘naturally’ think of as correct and obvious into a formal, axiomatic system to work out truthiness and falsiness (not always true and false – some logics involve degrees of truthfulness!). This PDF is rather good at explaining this in a gentle but correct way: https://www.logicmatters.net/resources/ifl2/ifl2_a.pdf

• Read though Chapter 1 and do the exercises at the end of the chapter. I would like you to take about 4 hours on this so if you have time please move on to the next chapters. Upload your answers to Showbie.

• (This may seem quite removed from standard computer science but it is part of the mathematical logical foundation of our discipline and it will make you into better computer scientists, better programmers –also any of you doing computer science, maths, philosophy etc next year will benefit hugely from studying this now.)

Year 13 Economics Home Learning

• This week’s focus is the macro economic impact of the Coronavirus1. Before you read the stimulus material, draw a mind map of all the different ways that

the UK economy has been impacted so far by the virus: consider a variety of different economic agents

2. When using the stimulus material, add to your mind map any impacts you had not thought of, and any statistics or figures to quantify the impacts

3. Consider whether the impacts are likely to be short-term or long term, and what the impact depends on

4. Evaluate which of the impacts is likely to be the most significant and justify with data.5. Once you have completed your notes, write an essay entitled: “The economic impact

of the Coronavirus – April 2020”. It is important that you use the stimulus material, (evidence) and that you focus on the impact not on the solutions.

6. Analyse the impacts fully, using well developed chains of reasoning. 7. Do any of the data sources conflict in their estimations – why do you think this is, and

which source is the most reliable? 8. If you want to extend your thinking you can compare the impact of this on the UK to

another country, or to a different pandemic such as SARS, MERS or Spanish flu9. Post your essays onto Showbie
