In Year 10 students will have completed projects for their GCSE coursework. This coursework makes up 60% of a student’s final grade. There are 4 assessment objects that must be fulfilled by students. Each Assessment Object covers crucial skills, techniques and knowledge and each is worth a maximum of 24 marks (96 marks in total). All projects in Year 10 are internally set (set by the art department).
In Year 11 September to December: Students continue with coursework carried through from Year 10. January: Exam questions issued by the exam board. Students to select a question of their choice on the exam paper. Exam preparation until end of April. April/May: GCSE exam. (10 hours)

Past paper practice is essential. TIP-do a few and then let your teacher look at it for you.

Year 11 Food Technology In Y 11 the assessment processes begin. The 1st NEA task will be released on 1st Sept 2017. The 2nd NEA task will be released on 2nd Nov 2017. The written exam will be in June 2018.

Study the NEA (FOOD INVESTIGATION TASK) Pupils will select their task and complete the background research. They will then write the hypothesis, carry out the investigations and analyse the results. Students will then choose the food preparation task, complete the research and mind map possible dishes. They will then begin section B (demonstrating technical skills) Section C is planning for the final menu. Section D is making the final dishes.

In Year 11 students will be completing the controlled assessment piece and will make a high quality model. Students will be also be developing their theoretical knowledge and design skills in preparation for the theory exam paper.

In Year 10 students will have been completing their controlled assessment. In Year 11 students will finish this coursework and complete some focused projects to aid them with the theoretical aspect of the course in preparation for the exam at the end of Year 11.

Section 4 – Making Having designed and developed the chosen design students will make the product. Students must record this process in detail and take particular care over Health and Safety and also make sure the product is finished to as high standard as they are capable.
Section 5 – Evaluation Now the project is completed students will evaluate the design and also evaluate the effectiveness of the project as a whole.

Focused Theory Tasks In Year 11 students will complete a number of tasks aimed at helping them learn the theory aspects of the exam to fully prepare them for this final aspect of the course. These theory tasks will vary from written exam-based lessons to practical tasks aimed at helping students learn manufacturing and design processes.

Study Leave: You will now have time to prepare for your exam in July. You will have a number of sessions in school called Exam Success Sessions (ESS) which you should attend but you must also make sure you are making effective use of your time at home to prepare fully.

In Year 10 students produced sections one and two of the GCSE major coursework project. This year students will be manufacturing the practical outcome. Students will be developing their theoretical knowledge and design skills in preparation for the summative design and theory exam paper.

Section 3 [Making 32 marks] Health and safety in action. Students are taught about cutting lists. They produce one for their product in conjunction with a production plan. Making commences of final design solution. Students’ project work is used for personal learning and development, developing independence. The teacher gives insight regarding the-pace and progress of the manufacture of the final project outcome. Students are asked to state specific learning outcomes for lessons as they proceed. What do they need to do next; identifying three things. What materials do they need?. Do they need to know and be taught anything to help? How are students going to achieve and accomplish this?

Various subject-related processes will be undertaken: eg the production and manufacture of moulds for lamination, the production of shaped laminated component parts for use in the product The construction of product parts and joints in preparation for future assembly. The students are taught about dry cramping, types of adhesive. Final assembly of product takes place. – All student practical should be assembled by Christmas.

Photos are taken as evidence of the outcome. Section 4 [Evaluation – 12 marks] Reference is made to the original specification and the product is reviewed against it. Third party client feedback is obtained and presented. An improvement is suggested. Outcomes are photographed. Theory for final exam commences.
