Curriculum Aim: Year 1 Word Reading
Phase 5 Home Learning ChallengesLook at the things around the room. Can you spot any words that contain any of these sounds? Can you hear the other sounds in the word too? Try writing some of them down.
Can you read the digraphs on this page? How many other digraphs, trigraphs or split digraphs do you know that make the same sound?
Can you put the sounds on this page into the phoneme frames to make words?
Play a game with your grown-up. Ask your grown-up to read a sound to you. Can you write the sound down? You could use different colours.
Can you spell out any of the pictures? Do all the words have the same number of sounds? Can you underline any digraphs and join any split digraphs?
Can you look in a book and find any of these words? Which words did you spot the most times?

Easter Chocolate Bark RecipeFancy making something tasty and unique to give as a gift this Easter? Then why not try this simple yet effective recipe for chocolate bark which children can personalise with their favourite sweets and package up for their family and friends.
Ingredients1kg of milk chocolate (or as much as you need depending on how big you want your piece of bark to be!)
Sweets to decorate, such as:Mini eggsChocolate buttonsColoured sprinklesDried fruit A little butter to grease the baking tray.
Equipment1 large heatproof bowl1 large saucepan1 spatula
Greaseproof paperBaking trayFood bagRolling pinPaper bags or boxes to package finished product
Method1. Break the chocolate into small pieces in the heatproof
bowl and place over the saucepan of water (ensure the water doesn’t touch the bottom of the bowl!)
2. Stir the chocolate as it melts using the spatula.3. Grease the baking tray and cover with greaseproof
paper.4. Put the mini eggs, chocolate buttons, etc. into the
food bag and crush up using the rolling pin.5. Once the chocolate is melted, pour it onto the baking tray.
6. Tilt the tray from side to side until the chocolate is spread evenly over it.
7. Use your sweets to decorate the chocolate as you wish.
8. Allow the chocolate to harden before carefully peeling off the greaseproof paper. Break the chocolate into different shapes and sizes of shards.9. Package the shards of chocolate bark in bags or boxes.
10. Give your handmade chocolate bark to your friends and family as an Easter gift.
