Explore addition (+), subtraction (-) and
equal to (=) sign.
Apply our knowledge of number bonds to solve
addition and subtraction problems confidently.

Develop our writing skills
through the RWI Programme.
Learn when to use a capital
letters and full stop.
Develop knowledge of
common exception words and
how to spell them correctly.
What has changed since my
grandparents were young?
Key learning this half term:
Define the meaning of ‘within living memory’
Identify differences between old and new.
Explain why new objects are different to how
they were in the past, e.g. iron, television, kettle.
Understand past and present.
Learn about how life would have been for
children in different periods of history.

Develop our reading skills through the RWI
Programme.

We will use our inference skills to answer reading
comprehension questions from our focus texts.
We will also be reading non fiction texts relevant to our
Geography and History topics.

Explore and record features of school and its
local surroundings.
Study aerial photographs of our school and
label its key features.
Identify and record human and physical
features of our surrounding environment.
Observe and record information about the
features of our local area.
Suggest ideas for improving our school’s
environment.
Key learning this half term:
Identify a variety of everyday materials,
eg. Wood, plastic, glass, metal, water, paper.
Distinguish between object and material.
Describe the properties of everyday materials,
eg. hard/soft, transparent/opaque, shiny/dull
Investigate why certain materials are suited or
unsuited for making everyday objects.
As scientists we will draw conclusions based on data
and observations using evidence to justify our ideas
and scientific knowledge to explain our findings.

Experiment with a variety of different sport balls.
Develop skills needed to play successfully as a

PE Day - Wednesday
Please ensure that your child has a full PE kit in
school each week for their PE lesson.
Key skills:
Develop skills which enable
us to make markings with
confidence.
Experiment with different
media: crayons, rubbers, felt tips, charcoal, ball
point pens.
Look at and discuss work by the artist Paul Klee.
Discuss different types of mark making: line,
curl, twirl, curve, zigzag.
Explore the shape of objects and ways to
represent them.
