2012, a year commonly associated with endings, saw a new beginning for former members of the David Crowder *Band. On the heels of their final project, Mark, Mike D, Bwack, and Jack sought to continue writing, performing, and producing music together for the Church. Out of this desire, The Digital Age was born.

The members of The Digital Age believe that the Church is beautiful, diverse, creative, and alive, and that these qualities should be reflected in the music the Church creates. Above all, The Digital Age strives to pursue excellence in all things to further the kingdom of God.

Think of them as the wise guys in class who had everyone laughing and managed to make a career out of it. They’ve been teaching God’s word using comedy, drama and whatever category talking action figures fit into for over twenty years.

the Great I AMRead and discuss the following quote from C.S. Lewis(taken from his book, Mere Christianity).

“I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Jesus: “I’m ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don’t accept his claim to be God.” That is the one thing we must not say. A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic — on the level with the man who says he is a poached egg — or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God, or else a madman or something worse. You can shut him up for a fool, you can spit at him and kill him as a demon or you can fall at his feet and call him Lord and God, but let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about his being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to... Now it seems to me obvious that He was neither a lunatic nor a fiend: and consequently, however strange or terrifying or unlikely it may seem, I have to accept the view that He was and is God.”

“God is more gracious and also more fierce than anyone of us will ever know.” How have Jesus’ words from John 8 helped to round out your understanding of just who he is?

“There is only ONE God.” Read Isaiah 40:18-26. What is the difference between God and gods? It seems almost absurd to worship anything but God. However, if we are honest, we too can give our worship (time, resources, love…) to all sorts of poor substitutes.

Read Exodus 20:1-6. What is God’s attitude about praise that belongs to him being given to some inanimate object? Do you have a problem with the concept of a perfect God being jealous?

It’s hard for me to imagine life without lots of light. Is it hard for you to imagine where you live without electricity, without streetlights, without lights in your home, without a flashlight on your phone, without clocks that glow in the dark (well that would be nice, easier for me to sleep)?

What do you think when you hear Jesus say, “I AM the Light of the World”? Do you think he is exaggerating a little or just saying he’s like the sun or something?

What are some things that light does in your life?

If Jesus is the Light of the world and all shiny and stuff, why does he say that we are the Light of the world too?

Why would Jesus want to make us lights like him?

How have Jesus’ words from John 11 helped to round out your understanding of just who he is? Discuss together how the words ‘resurrection’ and ‘life’ are not just philosophical ideas but definitions of Jesus.

How hard is it for you to grasp the idea that you are COMPLETELY spiritually dead and helpless apart from Christ? As we grow in Christ the more our minds are able to grasp how high and holy God is and how sinful and helpless we are; and then the cross begins to grow and we notice how much more amazing God’s grace is than we ever thought before and how much deeper his love is for us.

We can say of each other, “He or she is alive.” Instead, meditate on the magnitude of the fact that we can say of Jesus, “He is life!”Read 1 Corinthians 15:45 and 1 John 5:11-12.

BONUS QUESTION: Read 1 Corinthians 15:1-22. Why is the resurrection such an important doctrine of Christianity?

Is Truth True? Is the truth something you can trust to be true today, tomorrow, next month during Science class, next semester during Christmas? Is TRUTH really True?

Is Truth Objective or Subjective? Is Truth true in and of itself or is truth dependent on the your opinion or feelings about it? Does truth change when you change? Does truth change when times change or your location changes?

Why didn’t Pilate allow truth to impact his actions?

Do you live according to the truth you know is true? Does truth impact your actions?

Is Jesus the Truth? Does Jesus impact your life and actions?

the VineHow have Jesus’ words from John 15 helped to round out your understanding of just who He is? Discuss together also the phrase below (that Pastor Roger shared a couple of times tonight).

It is not who I am but who I am IN that really matters.It is not so much what I do but where I dwell that really matters.

What would be the danger of over-focusing on the word “GO” in regards to the Christian life? What would be the danger of under-focusing on the word “GO?”

If you’re honest with yourself, is there anything that you want more than to be loved? The question then is who are you seeking to be loved by? Read John 15:9 again.

In the Hymn, “Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing,” Robert Robinson humbly writes, “Prone to wander, Lord I feel it / Prone to leave the God I love / Take my heart Lord, take and seal it / Seal it for thy courts above.” Jesus has called us to remain but all around us are whispers calling us to wandering. What do those whispers really have to offer? What (according to Robinson’s prayer) do we need in order to remain in Christ?

the Bread of LifeThe smell of fresh baked bread is one of my favorite scents, just the smell gets me smiling and thinking of big sandwiches. I love sandwiches. What is one of your favorite foods, a food you “can’t live without”?

What are your needs? What do you NEED to live? What do you tell your parents or friends you NEED?

Jesus said, “I AM the bread of life.” What do you think Jesus was talking about?

When do you go to Jesus? When do you pray? Do you have a tendency to go to Jesus when you want something or need something?

What if God really does know everything? What if He knows what you need to live today and every day, forever? Is what God thinks you need enough?

The I AM has given you everything you NEED (but not everything you want) to do what He is calling you to do, and to live how He is calling you to live. Is that enough?

How does knowing God supplies your NEEDS change your WANTS? How will that impact your life?
