One of our highlights this year was the tremendous student growth in writing and numeracy results between Years 3 and 5. This is a great reflection of the hard work by the children and also the high quality of teaching and learning from the teachers and support staff – a fantastic result! Late Arrivals Recently, there has been a large number of students arriving late to school. This can result in missed learning for the student and interruptions for the whole class. Playground supervision begins at 8:30am under the library COLA. Please ensure that your child arrives by 9:00am, at the latest. Zone Athletics Carnivals Congratulations to the many students who represented our school at the zone track and field event carnivals over the last week. They showed great sportsmanship and competed with typical Yates spirit – giving their personal best! Thanks to Mr McNeilly for coordinating practice sessions and organising the students for these carnivals. A special thank you to Ms Olgyay-Szabo for preparing the students for shot put. Kindergarten Orientation Our Kindergarten orientation program begins with a parent information evening on Wednesday, 20th September from 6:00-7:00pm. If you are yet to enrol your child for 2018, please see Mrs Copping or Miss Rose in the front office and complete an enrolment form. Robotics The school has recently purchased a set of 12 Sphero Robots, as part of our focus on using technology to enhance student engagement. The ‘Spheros’ can be programmed using an app. on the iPads, with students using their problem-solving skills to complete a range of higher- order thinking tasks. New School Brochure Our new school brochure is at the printers and will be ready within a week. It showcases our strong focus on Teaching, Learning and Wellbeing at Yates Avenue PS and highlights the wonderful opportunities we offer our students. It will soon be delivered to all 1700 houses in the Yates catchment, along with a Kindergarten orientation flyer. If you are able to help with the letterbox drop, please email me at [email protected]. Updating Parent Details - Reminder Thank you to those parents who have returned their updated details to the front office. It is important that the school has current parent contact details, but also up- to-date information about occupation and education qualifications as this determines our school equity funding and socio-economic background. We encourage parents to provide the correct occupation group code which helps our school’s Family Occupation and Education Index (FOEI) to best reflect the profile of our student population. Please collect another copy from the front office if yours has been misplaced. Have a great week David MacSporran Principal Excellence, Opportunity, Success Page 1

The Book Parade will be hosted by our school leaders and Mrs Hopwood and Mrs Keeffe will hold some special sessions for the students in the library between 12:15pm and 1:30pm. So put your thinking caps on now … the BOOK WEEK CELEBRATIONS are only 1 week away.
