Strategic Priorities of YASED1) To reinforce the public perception regarding the importance and contribution of
international investments for the sustainable development of Turkey and Turkish Economy,
2) To pioneer the establishment of an investment environment that conforms with international legal and administrative standards, where those standards are implemented in an equal, fair and consistent manner,
3) To play a leading role in ensuring that Turkey is positioned as a «Regional Hub» for corporations’ management, manufacturing, service, logistics and R&D activities,
4) To develop strategic recommendations in order to have a workforce with global capabilities regarding language skills and education level in primarily but not limited to industrial sectors,
5) To develop sector specific improvement suggestions and solution recommendations to increase the productivity of the current investors in Turkey.
IPR Agenda of YASED• Today, IPR make up 80 percent of a company's assets. For investors, the
importance of effectively protecting intellectual and industrial property rights gains new importance in light of the fact that investments nowadays are not tied to traditional production facilities but to intangible intellectual capital (patent, trademarks, copyright).
• Improvements made in the field of intellectual property rights protection would make it much more possible to transform our country into its deserved position as an important international investment hub, to create new jobs for our citizens, and to secure increased capital flow into the country's economy.
• Turkey's value-added sustainable economic growth potential, its ability to attract international direct investments, and its welfare levels are directly tied to the protection of intellectual property rights (IPR).
• YASED focus on IPR: – Improving the IPR Environment in R&D– Leveraging Effect of IPR for Turkey to Become a Regional Hub – Protecting IPR in International Standards and IPR Legislation in Turkey
IPR in the R&D Eco-system in Turkey
The only dimension that is considered good and slightly better than
competitor countries is «Market Potential»
«Corporate R&D Support Mechanisms» is nearly
good and in a better level than last year
At the «Personnel Cost» and «Economic Status» dimensions, when the
R&D expenditure in GDP is considered, Turkey falls just behind competitor
countries.

Issues Regarding the IPR Legislation in Turkey
• Improving IPR in Turkey, polishing its image abroad, and rapidly addressing its shortcomings in light of the competition also plays an important role in reaching the goals set for 2023.
• As part of this, YASED's priority issue is the legislative draft for the protection of IPR. It is believed that the penalties in the draft regarding the protection of brands, designs, patents, and geographical landmarks would fail to deter. Accordingly, increasing the draft's fines related to patents and counterfeit products would be advisable.
