FOCUS ON THE FEMALE 2012

Cattle Companyzzz

Dear Friends, fellow Cattlemen and Valued Cus-tomers, Greetings from the beautiful mountains of Southern Utah. Welcome to our 35th annual bred cow and heifer sale. We look forward to seeing and hearing from you. We have something for everyone in this sale and the quality is as good as you can find anyplace in America. These cattle have worked for others and they will work for you. Two years ago Jirl Buck of Oklahoma bought a bred cow in our sale for $7,000. In his sale last week this cows heifer calf sold for $50,000 and the cow sold for $20,000. In the same sale Jones Show Cattle from Ohio and Trennepohl farms from Indiana bought a show heifer for $6,000. A year later she sold as a bred heifer for $9,500 and the man that bought her just sold her heifer calf a month ago for $36,000. We could go on and on telling of successes people have had with cattle they have bought from us. THESE ARE NOT ORDI-NARY CATTLE; IF YOU WANT THE BEST WE HAVE THEM IN VOLUME. I am 79 years old and have spent my life breeding and selecting this herd of cattle for MATERNAL TRAITS, PERFORMANCE, and EYE APPEALING LOOKS that you always enjoy seeing. We have never bred to many club calf bulls, because we want to keep the maternal traits in these cattle so they have the growth and milk to raise a 700 lb calf without creep, keep their flesh and stay fat while doing it. However, these cows and heifers really cross great on club calf bulls and raise very fancy calves. We have been AI’ing for 45 years. This has pro-duced one of America’s greatest cow herds. This year we bred 400 in 30 days and had a 97% pregnancy rate. We have concluded there is never a bad time to purchase the right kind of heifers and cows. EFFICIENT MOTHER COWS THAT CAN DO THE MOST FOR THE LEAST ARE ALWAYS IN STYLE. Study your catalog, come and see our cattle, if you can’t do that, view them

online and buy with confidence. The show heifers we are offering are the best we can raise and will be competitive anyplace in the country. OUR GENETICS HAVE STOOD THE TEST OF TIME. This is a FAMILY OPERATION and I am very grate-ful for the help and interest of my wonderful family. This is the greatest blessing that anyone can have in life. We could not function without the great help of Josue Gar-cia & Jose Guzman and we want to thank them for their hard work and continuous dedication. WE LOVE AMERICA and feel very blessed to have had the freedom to make our own decisions and to do what we want to do with our lives. Our country and our Freedom are being threatened as never before. Our President does not believe in the Constitution or the Rule of Law. We pray every day that Mitt Romney will win and that we can get a conservative majority in the Congress that believe in Constitutional government, the free enterprise system, free markets and a lot less gov-ernment regulations, less taxes, and less spending. We appreciate your confidence in our program. We are very grateful for your friendship. Call us if we can be of any help to you. We look forward to seeing you at the sale or talking to you on the phone. GOD BLESS YOU AND GOD BLESS AMERICA.

Sincerely, yours for a better cattle business,

LIABILITIES: Although accidents at livestock sales seldom occur, ev-eryone attending this sale does so at their own risk. We try to keep the most accurate records possible and have bull tight fences, but once on a rare occasion, accidents of breeding occur that we are not aware of or cannot control. We will do everything we can to determine the cor-rect parentage, but cannot guarantee it. The owners and employees of Yardley Cattle Co. assume no liability, legal or otherwise in the event of an accident, bodily injury, theft, error or omissions in catalogs or parentage verification.Cattle are kept in their own individual breeding groups until the first to mid July. Due to size and layout of the Forest permit it is neces-sary to mix breeding groups at that time. Only our own personal herd sires are taken on the mountain. Select groups of cattle will stay with one sire all summer long, but on the majority of late calving cows we cannot guarantee sire parentage unless a parentage identi-fication test is ran. IGENITY labs runs this procedure for around $30.

termS & CoNditioNSTERMS: No cattle will leave sale yards until full settlement has been made immediately after the sale. Payment terms are cash or a good check. All “returned” or insufficient checks will be immediately turned over to the District Attorney for immediate prosecution. This is a felo-ny and charges will be filed.BIDDING: All animals will sell to the highest bidder. Any disputes or challenges regarding bids will be settled by the auctioneer whose decision will be final.RISK: All animals are at the owner’s risk prior to their sale and be-come the property of the buyer as soon as the animal is declared sold by the auctioneer at which time the buyer assumes all risk.ANNOUNCEMENTS: Announcements from the auction block will take precedence over any printed matter.BREEDING DATES: Heifers will start calving February 1st and cows February 20th. Most of the cows will calve in March with some April and a few into May. WE HAVE HIGHLIGHTED THE SIRE TO WHICH THE VETERINARIAN, TO THE BEST OF HIS ABILITY, HAS DE-TERMINED THE ANIMAL BRED TO. However, we cannot guaran-tee they will calve from this mating.HEALTH: Every animal in this sale, to the best of our knowledge, is healthy and eligible for interstate shipment. Cows were vaccinated last spring for IBR, P13, BVD, BRSV, Vibrio, 5-way lepto and tricho-moniasis. The heifer calves have been fully vaccinated and boost-ered. All cows that have had calves are vaccinated in January with Scour Guard 4 and 8 Way. They just need a booster and the bred heifers should get two shots, three weeks apart before they calve. All Cattle have had Dectomax, and given OneShot Ultra 8. Calves have had two shots Bova Shield Gold and OneShot Ultra 8BREEDING GUARANTEE: All females sold under the conditions “safe in calf” have been pregnancy checked by a licensed veterinar-ian and sell with no further guarantee. No guarantee is given that bred females will deliver a live calf. All heifer calves are guaranteed breeders. If the heifer failed to breed, we require a statement from the veterinarian who checked her, stating the problem and that the problem was not due to negli-gence or improper management, which will void the guarantee. This guarantee may be void if 1) a female is highly obese, has been shown extensively past July 1st and has not steadily been attempted to be bred and 2) if she is flushed at any time in the first year after the date of the sale. These two exemptions do not apply if the female is examined by our vet to have an underdeveloped reproductive tract that would have been present at the time she was sold. Infections or other enlargement do not constitute “undeveloped.” 100% of the purchase price less salvage value of the female will be credited to the next sale. No other expenses occurred in the female will be reimbursed to the buyer. In cases where the animal is subject to hormonal or surgical reproduction techniques or damage caused by foreign bodies after the sale, this contract is null and void. The seller is not responsible for sickness not apparent at time of sale. It is useless to breed more than two heat cycles, artificially. If they haven’t settled artificially then, they must be put with a fertile bull for the sum-mer. After salvage value we give you credit in next year’s sale or give a heifer of equal value. In no event will the seller be responsible for more than the purchase price, less salvage value.AI CERTIFICATE: The purchase of A.I. certificates is the responsi-bility of the buyer, as well as, the registration of all calves born after sale day.REGISTRATION CERTIFICATES: Supplied on eligible animals upon request on the sales slip at time of settlement or within 20 days. Leave the name and address to which you would like purchases transferred on your sales slip.CONTRACT: The above Terms and Conditions of this sale shall con-stitute a contract between buyer and seller and be equally binding on both. Animals that are resold following the sale shall constitute a separate transaction and the rights and obligations of the two parties connected there to are not covered by these Terms and Conditions.TRUCKING: All trucking, pricing and trucking fees are the respon-sibility of the buyer, but we will help you all we can with coordinating loads.

The offering of 2012Yardley Genetics....

84 Elite Simmental, Angus, & Maine Anjou Simmental Bred Heifers and Cows

• We are proud to offfer you this set of 2012 Females and feel that no matter where you travel from you will not be dissapointed. We have strived to raise quality genetics for generations. This is a program that has stood the test of time. There are many Donor quality females in our offering and many more that will make solid cattle for you our customer. You’ll find that our “Focus is truly on the Female” November 17th. With the female as the priority, all else will fall into place.

• Sorting down to 16 head of heifers, represented within these pages, is perhaps one of the most enjoyable things we do as a family all year. We discuss Granddams from years gone by, how they move, and what we should name all of them. The one thing that we really focus on is the ablity to make cows. There is huge donor potential in the open division. They are sorted from our top replacements, and come from a long line of top maternal genetics from the heart of our program.

• We take great pride in the “clean up” bulls that we use, we call them herd bulls. Many of them come from top herds across the Nation or are hand selected from our bull calves each year. We know their lineage for generations, we know how their mothers milk, what their body condition score is, what type of feet and udder quality they have, and we only use the best. Our bulls in the pasture are of equal or higher quality as those in the tank and take pride in thier genetic merit. Don’t hesitate to buy a female that is pasture bred!

•Take the time to visit our bull pens. The entire 2012 heifer and bull calves are penned and available for viewing. We want you to see what these cows produce. Make plans to attend our 40th Annual bull sale March 9th, 2013 in beautiful Beaver, UT.

• FLUSHES-Yardley Cattle Company will be reserving one successful embryo flush on every open heifer in our sale. Lots 1-16. All flushes will be at our expense and your convenience, and will include 8 grade 1 embryos. Flushes on open heifers will not be taken until after their first calf.

Sweet DreamsYI Sweet Dreams Z29Lot 1

• A144 was the cornerstone cow in our program as we grew up. We kept three herd bulls out of this grand old cow for our own use. We weren’t doing a lot of ET during those years but flushed her one time. If there was ever a grand old cow it was A144, there is royalty in this pedigree. U450 produced a $6,300 bull in our 2010 sale. Sweet Dreams is the type of female to start a program around, she’s big bellied, soft middled, moves great and has the bone substance and cool front to make a statement in the pasture and in the showring. She combines all of this in a feminine package that shouts “donor.” Generations of great cow families bring you this one. Don’t miss her!

• Steel’In Love is one that will show and has the pattern and look to wear purple more often than not. You’ll have a hard time faulting this heifer. She knows she’s pretty and walks with a confident air. With plenty of rib, hind quarter, bone and overall mass, I promise you’re going to love her. S51 stamps out females that are destined for the show ring. They look good as babies and unbelievable as breds. S51 was Grand Champion Angus female at the Utah Angus Show and Sale that Jeannie judged and she purchased this cow as a result of how much she loved her.

Her dam produced a $10,000 bull in our bull sale last year, she makes them good every year. She has the rib capacity, broodiness, and eye appeal that will spell out profit. Combined with her pedigree she’ll produce right on the money everytime.

• We have really regretted selling Prince. We just used him sparingly AI, and his calves have been dang good! This heifer has been a favorite from the start. Bart Herndon came out and clipped the calves before pictures and this was his favorite “girl” of the sale. She’s as good as you can put one together. Impressive in her stoutness and admirable in her style. She’s got the bone, power and look to turn more than a few heads! She carries a complete outcross pedigree to Maine genetics and is going to be a true breeding piece. Cherokee daughters have been some of the very best Maine cows we have owned.

• Herford boys line up, here’s your girl to make those cool colored calves. She’s powerful, she’s pretty, and she comes from a cow family that flat out produces. Take note of pedigree here, H48 the grand old Black Beaver daughter falls on the bottom side. This cow family will produce year after year, making them pretty and profitble. Color aside you could make this one black, brown, or purple and she’d still be the right kind. She’s cool made, zipper fronted, and has plenty of pretty with the potency to be competive no matter how you take her in your program. Donor cow canidate from the get go.

• We take a great deal of pride in making sure these heifers aren’t just “powerful in the showring.” We want them “powerful in the pasture,” the type and kind that will go on to be profitable as brood Matrons. That is what drives us and really is the true test of a program. Picking out feature heifers is one of our favorite things we do as a family all year. Sunkissed was easy to add to the list. She’s carries a beautiful baldy face with a broody made powerful style throughout. Cool fronted and pretty made, raise your hand and take this girl home! Double registered Simmental and Maine Anjou.

Take note of H48, she is the granddam of two of our feature heifers this year. She was a moderate made powerhouse that literally never saw a thin day in her life, SHE WAS ALWAYS FAT. You’re going to have a difficult time sorting through these heifers, it’s pretty easy to love them all.

• We talk cow families a lot at our house, we’ve grown up with them and Dad has spent his life developing them. C72 was as good a cow as we have ever owned. Her Daughters and Granddaughters are some of the greatest Angus cows on the place. We kept a bull out of Miss Yardley U92 last year to use in our own program. She is an easy doing, big bodied female that passes her look and design to her offspring. • I’ve wrote it before and I’m sure I’ll write it again, this is one of the prettiest and most consistent females we own. Great cow families are priceless, they flat out make money. R2 will stamp out a great one every single year without fail. This is the first heifer calf she’s had, her bulls have been picture bulls, every year and in the top of the pen. The Granddam N8 I wrote one time, “could be a yard ornament that you had out there just to look at.” This cow family is one of my all time favorites. Country Girl has her own personal merit of being flat out good, now add that to a phenomenal cow family and take this one home!

• Hard as Steel produced lot 1 and 3 in our 2012 annual bull sale with $44,000 in sales between the two young herd sires. When you view this female it’s evident of the type of cattle he’s siring. Y185 was Emily’s pick for the feature lot from the get go. It’s easy to see why when you look at the beautiful side profile of this moderate, big bellied female. She has all the style and eye appeal to produce great cattle and is a true donor in the making. She’s put excitement in our Autumn days, let her do the same to yours!

• In 2010 we saw Dominance in the yards at Denver shortly before he was named the Supreme Champion Simmental bull and fell in love with him. His Champion winning pen of three bull calves were equally impressive. We bought into a semen package and at $250/straw, you can bet we were very selective on the females we bred. T138 was one of these elite females. She’s a maternal sister to Pinion and one of the prettiest cows we own. If you’re raising PB Simmy’s you better look long and hard at this one, she’s bred for greatness. Kesslers Frontman is a moderate made Angus tank who has had calves sell for $15,000, and $16,000.

ne of our families memory building experiences and enjoyment is moving our cattle from Asay Creek, 20 miles to high country where they summer at 9 to 10,000 feet elevation. There is no more beautiful country

on earth. The grass is strong and it is a summer haven for our cattle and us. The cattle graze year round on grass and browse ranges.

We live in an area where we still embrace the heritage of the Old West. Our livestock culture still survives where the valley and sagebrush lie in the shadows of majestic mountains under endless sky…. where the solitude is not loneliness but a refreshing peace from the modern world. Our natural beauty is preserved and enhanced by the practical stewardship of reputation cowboys and cowmen….whose lives are shaped by the dominant environment.

What better occupation to have than being a cow/calf producer? From hearing the first breath of a newborn baby nestled in the straw to watching young calves run around in the green pastures with momma following close behind, and finally witnessing the growth and development of these animals as they repeat the reproduction cycle, creation is a priceless livelihood. It is like writing a book as we learn new tactics, educate consumers and experi-ence the world around us. However, the narrative never ends, it continues page after page, chapter after chapter with successes and struggles as new generations of produc-ers arise. Only in the livestock industry do we get the luxury of engineering our own way-of –life and designing the structure for our own story.

• C72 was one of our greatest cows, she was still going strong at 14 years. Four calves averaged 655# at weaning.

President David O. McKay

“Time passes quickly. Many parents say that it seems like yes-terday that thier children were born. Now those children are grown, perhaps with children of thier own. “Where did the years go?” they ask. We cannot call back time that is past, we cannot stop time that now is, and we cannot experience the future in our present state. Time is a gift, a treasure not to be put aside for the future but to be used wisely in the present.” President Thomas S. Monson

The following is as told by Dad’s Mother, Melba Thuerer Yardley. All of us kids are forever grateful that Dad decided to raise cattle instead of sheep but here is a near run in with fate. “In the winter of 1946 on Saturday the 12th of January an important event took place. Gilbert had a good ewe sheep he had got a year or two before from Jake Tanner. On this cold winter morning after going out to do chores, he came running back to the house, saying that he had a new baby lamb. He came in a few minutes later and announced twins! After he had had eaten his breakfast he went out again, and in a while returned once more, this time with the announcement that the old ewe had just given birth to her third one! Triplets! What next? Oh, all the worries we had over those triplets. On Monday when they were just two days old, Gilbert came home from school for lunch and could only find two of them. He was almost in tears. His Mother went out with him to look around the corral to find the third one. There it was, fallen in the snow behind the barn, shivering with cold. They took the poor little thing in the house and rubbed it with rags and old blankets, and tried to get it to take some warm milk. Finally when Gilbert’s father came home he succeeded in getting the little thing to get some sucking action, and it was saved. The weather became stormy and so he had to bring the little black rascals in the house at night. He put them in a big paste board box in his room upstairs and them took them out to the mother in the morning. Two or three times in the middle of the night, the family would be awakened by little footsteps and bleating, and twice they fell down the stairs. It didn’t seem to hurt them in the least. In the spring of 1946, when Gilbert was thirteen years of age, he went into business for himself. S. Taylor Farnsworth had a little flock of about thirty sheep which he wanted to get rid of. Gilbert had had a few of those sheep for several years, and he had been eyeing those of Farnsworth’s. He had talked to Brother Farnsworth about them. One day when he came home from school for lunch, he said to his parents, “You know, I’ve got a chance to make some good money if I just had enough to make an investment.” On inquiry from his father he replied that he would surely

like to buy that herd of sheep from Farnsworth’s. Of course his folks were not much in favor of having sheep—most cattlemen aren’t. His Father talked to him for a few minutes, and then said, “Well, go and talk to Sam Hickman at the bank, and maybe he will loan you the money”. His thought was that surely they wouldn’t consider letting a thirteen year old boy borrow $170.00, and that that would be the end of it. He thought perhaps the sheep would be sold in a few days to someone else. But to the surprise of his parents, when school was out that day, here came Gilbert with the note, saying that all they asked was that his father sign it with him.

For weeks Gilbert talked of camping out with his herd of sheep. He borrowed an old sheep wagon from Brul Ashworth and made his plans. He was quite out of patience with his parents at the delay in getting ready. Of course his Mother wasn’t very anxious for him to go alone, but he was determined. Finally on a Thursday she said, “I’ll help you get your grub box ready, and your bedding and such, and you can go tomorrow morning and come home Saturday night. Then you will be here for church and you can see what you need and go back again on Monday.”“Just two days! That would be some thing. It wouldn’t be worth it to go for two days.” He was very indignant at the idea. But finally he agreed to go for two days and then go again next week. Gilbert and his Mother worked for hours that night getting everything arranged in the sheep wagon. He was up the next morning long before day light to start out. He took the “herd” and started them up South Creek, and then came back for the wagon about nine o’clock. By late afternoon his Mother was wishing she could go and look in on him before night fall. But that wasn’t necessary. About six o’clock the tinkle of sheep bells was heard. Somebody ran to the door and cried, “Here comes Gilbert!” And sure enough here he came and all the herd with him. He said it was just too lonesome all alone. Gilbert’s business ability was demonstrated when shearing time came. He contacted every neighbor who had a few sheep and got them to let him pool all the wool and consigned it so they could get a better price. It was quite a business deal for a young boy to handle. His interest in beef cattle soon overcame his love for sheep, and he sold all of his sheep and put the money from them into beef. About 1950 he and his father went to Yampa, Colorado, where they bought about thirty head of registered Herefords from John Reagor”

Right On is a bull you’re destined to love. Everybody loves a baldy, and when they are moderate framed and big topped with plenty of soundness and stretch it’s hard not to admire them. Right On carries that description. Built Right has sired a legacy of quality cattle and we have always loved our Power Stroke females. The combination of these two pedigrees make this a sure fire bet to sire profitable progeny. A full brother to the popular AI sire Quota, Right On comes in the same build but with a full baldy face. He is moderate framed and easy fleshing. This picture was taken after a 60 day breeding season this summer. Right On will be available for viewing on sale day. We’re sure you’re going to admire him as much as we do.

WLE Right On

Three seperate breeds, three individual herds of cattle, one common goal. Our focus in all three breeds is to produce cattle with rib shape, dimension, solid tops, easy fleshing, structurally sound and fuctional. We will continue to focus on solid cow familes combined with powerful herd sires. Semen Available on all sires.

A bull’s true value isn’t really known until his daughters are in production for a few years. Pinion daughters carry consistency, substance and style. They have flawless udders, and are proving maternal ablity in producing top of the market cattle. It’s a bold statement but they are flat out better than Meyer daughters. They’ll make their mark in the history books.

I had the opportunity to go to the Grass to Grid Sale, before I married John. I fell in love with Hard As Steel before I was real sure I was in love with John! I circled his lot number, put a star next to his name, and wrote love this bull in my footnotes. With a 70# BW, 15.67 REA, and a 40.5 yearling scrotal he was one you could like off of paper but he got better after a visual analysis. He is a female maker that is huge bodied with fleshing ability and style. His first calf crop did not disappoint. Owned with Curt Schoner, and Griswold Cattle Company. His mother has been in ET at Griswolds, she is one of the best cows that they purchased from Tim Ohlde. Hard as Steel cost us $12,000. He sired many high dollar cattle for us this past year.

I am as critical a bull buyer as there is in the country and there isn’t one single thing I don’t like about this bull. He has perfect phenotype every place you look at him. I don’t like high tailed cattle. I want them square over that tail head and he is. Jeannie loves his perfect built, moderate sized mother as good as any cow we own. L21 was seven years old when we sold her, she brought $7,700 selling to Greg Kroupa of White Lake, SD. She was as pretty a cow as we’ve ever owned. He is an easy calving sire that produces cattle that have look and style. Grass fat cattle are what we need to breed. He always maintained his flesh while breeding cows and he wasn’t a bull that needed to primped and pampered. Apache was a moderator that kept performance and bred depth and rib into his progeny. When we select bulls from our own calf battery we’re pretty critical of them on every angle possible. We take great merit in the cow family from which they evolved, their dam’s and granddam’s udder quality, fleshing ability, performance and overall eye appeal, and then couple all that with the bulls individual merits. I have known and been a friend of Tim Ohlde of Palmer KS, it seems like forever. The world has beaten a path to his door because he has bred, developed, and selected a line and family of Angus cattle that have MORE FLESHING ABILITY, BETTER UDDERS, MODERATE FRAMES, and MORE DEPTH AND THICKNESS, than any other Angus in the Nation. OCC Rising Sun is a sound structured, pretty fronted, deep ribbed, powerhouse. We had previously used Jet Stream on our Simmental cows and loved the results. Whirl of a Dream was the pick of our Simmental bull calves two years ago. He’s big topped, large scrotaled, with bone and great muscle shape. His dam, B75, has been a top producer for us. She raised this calf at 17 years old, he weaned off at 712# with no creep and she was fat when she came home. A wise cattleman once told me if you love the cow, breed one of her sons and you’ll replicate her. There is performance with power in this pedigree.
