George Town Festival 2O11 is a month-long celebration to showcase our multicultural living heritage. In its second year as an annual event, the State Government is proud to support this rich array of theatre, music, dance, art, opera, food and fashion, which is estimated to reach an audience of up to a million.
With more than 8O events, the State Government is pleased so many ethnic groups have come forward to support the Festival and highlight the thriving multicultural economies, social and physical activities of Penang’s diverse communities. This event demonstrates the State Government’s commitment to safeguarding the integrity and authenticity of Outstanding Universal Values integral to our World Heritage Site.
I would like to thank all sponsors and stakeholders who have contributed and urge all Penangites to join us in celebrating our unique and precious heritage. Let Penang glow as we revisit triumphs of the golden years and reconnect with our past to face the future together.
Chief MinisterYang Amat Berhormat Tuan Lim Guan Eng

George Town is one of the great loves of my life, and guiding this Festival for the second time has been incredibly difficult but an amazing journey.
This living, breathing ‘performing’ city is a natural stage like no other, with stunning architecture, a compelling mix of ethnic communities and community spirit I have not felt anywhere else in Malaysia.
The Festival provides a platform to promote arts and bring communities together while being a catalyst for stimulating Penang’s economy and its appeal as a tourism destination. Seeing the people of Penang take ownership of the Festival and participate by sharing their homes, histories and talents is simultaneously uplifting and humbling.
I am truly grateful for the support of the honourable Chief Minister of Penang, YAB Tuan Lim Guan Eng, the people of Penang and my dedicated team for making this journey a reality.
