YAKIMA VALLEY HOPS 101Hops are the flowering cones of a climbing vine (called bines) that are used in the beer brewing process. Hops create unique flavors and aromas in beer, and bring balance to the sweetness of malts.

The Yakima Valley has the ideal combination of the right climate, day length, soil and access to irrigation systems for hop growing, which is why over 75% of our nation’s hops are grown here.

The female hop cone, which forms on the bine in late summer, contains oils and alpha acids that are essential for the flavor and aroma in beer.

Hop harvest usually begins around the first of September. Most hop facilities run 24 hours-a-day, seven days-a-week, for nearly 30 days.

Hop Nation Brewing Company

When you come to Downtown Yakima, you can expect to find a few things. Award-winning wineries nestled between top-notch restaurants serving up locally inspired cuisine, or boutique shops and storefronts squeezed between artisan bakeries and rustic breweries. You’ll also find a vibrant community of artists, craft beverage makers and restauranteurs who take great pride in making Yakima’s downtown a wonderful place to visit.

Take a short walk from your hotel and explore the Sunday Farmers Market on your way to a tasty lunch at one of the local taprooms. Sip your favorite local wine after you browse through one of the vintage boutiques. Or bring the whole family out to one of the many free concerts that happen throughout the summer. If you’re looking for an awesome assortment of live music, great food and enticing craft beverages, Downtown Yakima is where it’s at!

Exciting new restaurants continue to appear each year, pleasantly mixing with the long-time favorites to offer up a broad range of flavors that will appease any palate. Culinary experiences range from elegant, beautifully prepared meals to

quick snacks picked up from one of the Mexican taqueriás or taco trucks. Likewise, our artisan craft beverage makers provide a delightful balance with all the food options. Several local wineries serve their vintages in well-appointed tasting rooms, while a number of breweries showcase the many varieties of Yakima Valley hops. And they are all just steps away from the many great dining options.

If you’re looking for live entertainment, you won’t have to look further than Downtown Yakima. The Seasons Performance Hall is the hot venue for national jazz and blues acts, not to mention a steady stream of Northwest singer-songwriters. The legendary Capitol Theatre plays host to everything from big-budget Broadway musicals to classical orchestra ensembles. This completely refurbished Vaudeville-style theatre seats 1,500 people, while the adjoining 4th Street Theatre was recently added to offer a smaller, more intimate performance venue and event facility.

There’s no shortage of things to do when you visit Downtown Yakima, so take time to explore the beautiful heart of the Yakima Valley!

ABOUT YOUR FEATURED LISTINGRather than paid advertisements, our advertisers are given “Featured Listings” that are designed to integrate your ad directly into our marketing material’s content. This is a form of “native advertising,” which mimics the form and appearance of news content. This style of ad has proven to be much more effective at appealing to readers and potential visitors. Rather than feeling like they are being advertised to, readers assume your ad is a part of the story, which helps inspire genuine interest in what your business offers.
