NAEYC Accreditation of programs for young children represents the mark of quality in early child-hood education. NAEYC Accreditation began in 1985 with the goal of providing an accrediting sys-tem that would raise the level of early childhood programs. Today, over 7,000 programs are NAEYCAccredited. In York County, there are currently 12 NAEYC Accredited centers.

NAEYC accredited programs invest in early childhood education because they believe in the bene-fits to children and families. Early childhood experiencesfrom birth to age 8have an enormousimpact on childrens lifelong learning and positively contribute to their health and develop-ment. Early childhood education programs with the mark of quality benefit children with greaterreadiness for and success in school. It is for this reason that parents and families are seeking out NAEYC-accredited programs. Parentschoosing an early childhood education program can be overwhelmed by trying to find the highest-quality program for their child. NAEYC Accreditation is the mark of quality that families are lookingfor. NAEYC Accreditation gives families the chance to make the Right Choice for Kids.

NAEYC-Accredited programs must meet NAEYC's 10 standards for high-quality early childhoodeducation:

    Standard 1: Relationships

    Standard 2: Curriculum

    Standard 3: Teaching

Standard 4: Assessment of Child Progress

    Standard 5: Health

    Standard 6: Teachers

    Standard 7: Families

    Standard 8: Community Relationships

    Standard 9: Physical Environment

    Standard 10: Leadership and Management

Benefits of being an NAEYC Accredited Program:

Helps to build a stronger team of teachers, administrators, and families working together to im-prove quality for children.

Improved standards for the overall program

Recognition through NAEYC, including program listing on the NAEYC website in the ProgramSearch section

Announcement of programs accreditation in the NAEYC Early Learning News weekly newsletterto programs, members, media, and others.

Use of NAEYC Accredited logo for marketing purposes

Attracts more families to enroll their children at program

See what some programs have to say about NAEYC Accreditation:"I know it is a lot of work, but in the long run your center, your children and your families will reap thebenefits." Diane Rudash, Director of Lasting Impressions Child Development CenterIts great to have a consensus (NAEYC Accreditation) throughout the field.Alissa Levey Baugh,Director, Early Childhood Services
