On 21st March there will be an evening entirely dedicated to options. This will be held in the Sports Hall and all the subjects will be represented. It is here that you can ask sta or pupils what it is really like to study their subject. There will also be people from Connexions and Rainhill Sixth Form Centre to give you advice.

I hope that you will enjoy making these choices and coming to decisions about your future curriculum.I look forward to seeing you on both the Parents and Options evenings. Yours sincerely,

Mrs Josie ThorogoodDeputy Headteacher

GCSE ICTWhat does the course offer me?Did you know that in the year that you were born only 5% of people in the world had been online. Today 34% of the whole human race has been online – this means that since you were born more than 2 BILLION new people have used the internet. The World Wide Web has transformed the way we commu-nicate, do business and live our lives.

And that’s just the net. Other advances in digital technology have revolution-ised our phones, cameras, cars – even the way we watch TV.

You have lived through some of the most signicant changes yet in Informa-tion and Communication Technologies and you are the people who under-stand them and use them. So who better that you to get a GCSE in a subject that you already know so much about?

What does the course involve? The GCSE ICT course that we deliver at Rainhill High School is designed to help you become a condent user of ICT. The topics that are delivered are relevant to your life, and place emphasis on ‘doing’ rather that ‘writing about’ ICT. You will learn new ICT skills and discover the latest technologies that are emerging. Nowadays being a savvy user of ICT is essential and this GCSE will provide you with the knowledge and skills to give you a head start for the future.

GCSE CORESPECIFICATION - EDEXCEL
